Bill Cosby: I'm alive. Now, please cut it out

Bill Cosby is used to winking at internet rumors of his death. But after another one spread Monday, he said he hopes people will give the hoaxes a rest.

After false news of Cosby’s death spread by Twitter on Monday - "Bill Cosby died" was a trending topic on the microblogging service - the 73-year-old comedian talked to CNN's "Larry King Live" to prove he still is around.

"I don't want [whoever spread the rumor] to do this anymore, because this is my fourth time being reported [dead]," Cosby said by phone to CNN’s Kyra Phillips, who was sitting in for Larry King on Monday night.

Cosby used his wit to counter previous rumors. After the first, he borrowed a Mark Twain quote about reports of his death being an exaggeration.

But Cosby said Monday's rumor felt different. He said it left one of his friends in tears before he realized it wasn’t true.

"I don't know. Maybe a psychiatrist will say I'm feeding [the rumor starter's] ego, but I just want to say to friends of that person: Just tell him to stop, because it isn't funny."

On his own Twitter account, Cosby still went for a bit of humor Monday when refuting the rumor.

"Again, I'm rebuttaling rumors about my demise. But, I'm confirming I have an app," Cosby wrote before linking to an iPhone application featuring clips of the comedian's performances.

Who cares whether Bill Cosby is alive or dead..

It is the jerk Demopukes that are really the problem... FACT the nation debt has soared since the minute the Demopukes took over. As they load up their family, relatives and friends with you hard earned taxes they are bankrupting the US Treasury. They need to be stopped sooner rather than later. We need responsible government that a third party offers.

The "demopukes" aren't the biggest problem. The repiglicans started a war that will be going on generations from now so that they could send their buddies like Haliburton over there to rebuild and recoup a fortune off of our tax dollars. Made up WMD's....phoney intelligence...it will be non-stop for a very long time. Our economy started going downhill the minute the Bush regime decided to pocket the world's wealth themselves. That's what Skull & Bones and the like are all about....make the world their own. Bush reminds me of Nepoleon, except more evil. You think after the first Bush, we'd have wised up (oh...I was in the bathroom when they made that decision on arms for hostages) and that there would be ANYONE better than a Bush to run the country again. We are idiots for even having considered the son of Satan to be a president.

All this is doing is further invalidating Twitter as a news source. And proving how stupid people are in believing something they read there without first checking a real news source like the AP or CNN to confirm it. I mean, seriously, when Alexander Scott finally goes to reunite with Kelly Robinson in that great rerun network in the sky, don't you think they'll report it almost instantly?

A quick addendum to what I just posted - I am not intending to call Mr. Cosby's friend stupid as I don't know how that person heard the news. Just to be clear there. But so many people believe everything they see on the Internet without question...

I b never b got b Bill b Cosby's b style b of b humor b. I never ever thought he was funny, nor did I ever like the Huxtables..what a stupid mind-numbing show. Not to say there aren't other mind-numbing shows, but this one was so far over-rated compared to most others. I tried to watch, but I couldn't take the generic humor, generic situations, and pathetic dialog. I'd have rather watched reruns of Sanford & Son.

The man has paid his dues and should be allowed to enjoy his old age like any other hero of his time. Leave Cosby alone!

Demanding that anonymous Tweeters on the Internet stop doing stuff – yeah, that's gonna end well for you, Bill. I loved your 60s-era standup comedy, but you're turning into a querulous old curmudgeon and I don't like it.

I'm sure all of the women he is alleged to have criminally assaulted wishes he were dead. Google it for yourself to get the sordid details about this wholesome, family man.

Bill Cosby, this middle class white boys hero when I was growing up in NJ in the 60's. I listened to his albums and learned alot from them. Thank you sir. For those of you who have never heard them you are missing some real wisdom and humor.

whomever thinks its ok to post this sort of thing without verifying whether he really is dead or not should be taken out in the street and covered with red ants. Its pathetic that in todays world people think it is ok to post a rumor that someone has died....if they keep doing this, people won't believe the reports anymore. Its a modern Peter crying wolf situation
