World update: First Myanmar general election in 20 years

Vote announced: Myanmar will hold general elections on November 7, Myanmar National Radio announces - the first since 1990 when the opposition's victory was rejected.

Forest fires: More than 700 firefighters are battling a dozen forest blazes raging in northern Portugal, government agencies said Thursday. Only one fire is considered under control and three firefighters have died so far.

    Myanmar was formerly known as Burma and is in SE Asia.
