At least 8 dead after vehicle plows into crowd at race

[Updated at 4:33 p.m.] The death toll from an off-road race car plowing into a crowd in southern California on Saturday night has risen to eight, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

[Posted at 2:26 a.m.] Six people were killed when an off-road race car plowed into a crowd in southern California on Saturday night, authorities said.

The six were pronounced dead at the scene, said Tim Franke of the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

Four more were transported to hospitals via air ambulance in serious condition. Five others were transported with minor to moderate injuries.

The race was in the Lucerne Valley area of San Bernardino County, Franke said.
