Court blocks same-sex marriage in California

A federal appeals court in San Francisco has blocked same-sex marriage in California, until it hears broader questions over the constitutionality of such marriages. The brief order from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals set aside a federal judge's decision August 4 permitting same-sex marriages to resume.

Typical dull response. I'm surprised you didn't mention marrying children or animals. Come up with something a bit more original next time, yeah?

That's the issue right there you moron, The Idea is that a marriage is what TWO (2) individuals want and agree in common, not something for you or no one else to decide upon... neither US gays nor anyone else is talking about marring third parties here, we are talking about marring ourselves to whom ever we want and wants us... THAT IS A RIGHT!!!!

Yes, it is getting tired. I wonder how long before the uneducated people that support Prop 8 stop trying.
Why would anyone put a basic right to the public vote?

If we are talking about truly free marriage, why can't we allow a union between more than 2 people? Between brother and sister? Between mother and son? Or if we never get it truly equal for everyone, maybe we should just drop any special privileges for married people and treat everyone equally regardless of they marital status and then any one can call their union with any term they like and noone would care?

The people of California has spoken, on the state of California marriage is only between one man and one woman. Democrats are champions of state right as Nancy Pelosi had uttered before. I guess Democrats are only champions of state right if it suits their needs. Democrats had to buy one gay judge Walker to invalidate the will of the people of California.

Perhaps we should put slavery to a public vote? I have a feeling in certain parts it would pass too.

You don't put people's rights to a public vote.

That's like saying if 51% of Americans supported slavery, or mass imprisonment of a certain race, or removing freedom of speech for a certain group, it should be allowed to stand.

Tyranny of the majority is a scary thing indeed.

if you think about it its totally against everything we were created for GOD made a man and woman and named them Adam and Eve there were never 2 people of the same gender created to be together its an abomination and if someone wants to be gay/lesbian but says they are "christian" they are totally lying and will reside in hell when they die

See my only thing is don't use the term Marriage. It totally takes what my wife and I have. What they have is not marriage.. Just strong feelings for one another... Marriage is meant for a man and a women...

Tony, thanks for the bigoted point of view. Why do you get to define the term marriage for everyone else? How does two men or two women getting married affect your marriage in any way? I think it's time to stop thinking that your way should be everyone's way.

      Tony,

      Separate but equal then?

How about if the gays get the word marriage, and the straight people can pick some other term? If it's the same thing, it doesn't matter what it's called, right?

Because when gay marriage is legalized, Tony is going to leave his wife for the biggest, burliest bear in San Fran.

Yeah Tony, I've been married to my partner for 3 years now. How's that been affecting your marriage? Also, Tony, something tells me even if we didn't call it "marriage" you would still try to prevent us from having it. Huh, Tony?

      Tony –

What does the word marriage have to do with your relationship with your wife? Nothing. A word is just a word and to prohibit the rights of another is sheer bigotry. So one group gets to drink from a water fountain and another group drinks from another...does this remind you of anything? Oh yeah, segregation. Get off your high horse and face your bigoted ways. To deny someone else the same thing as what you have is wrong. Period. It has nothing to do with you and your wife. It's a freaking word. If your marriage is only valuable because of your "right" to get married to a woman then you obviously have marriage issues.

Hey Tony, you're absolutely right. And the voters in California spoke out and said that MARRIAGE is between a man and a woman. If the gays want "civil unions" so they can have medical insurance or will money, so be it, but it isn't marriage.

Marriage for all will be the law of the land within five years. Ten years TOPS. And fifty years from now, the wrath of the nay-sayers will be a public embarrassment that's glossed over by kids' history books, just like the "No Blacks Allowed" signs of yesteryear.

Davey rights are not subject to the will of the majority in America one of our most important principles in fact. Much like your right to free speech would you like it if we decide to take a vote on that?

The words "idiot" and "bigot" are not constructive to debate. Marriage is not a right; it's a social construct. Truth is, although many people do not think there is anything MORALLY wrong with being gay, it certainly appears to be BIOLOGICALLY wrong. The purpose of every species is to reproduce. Personally, I don't think the government should have the power to marry anyone. So if you want to be married, have a party and call yourself married. This whole process is a waste of time.

Biologically wrong? What about it being seen as natural population control? That would be natural and biologically feesible...right? And what about gay animals? Point being, you have no right to call anyone else inherently wrong. What's the saying? People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones? I don't condemn you for you "unnatural" choice of makeup or hair product. And THAT truly IS a choice...
