The last U.S. brigade combat team has left Iraq, leaving 56,000 U.S. troops in the country, according to the U.S. military.
Another 6,000 troops must leave the country to meet President Barack Obama's September 1 deadline for the end of U.S. combat operations in the country and the beginning of Operation New Dawn.
In all, 50,000 U.S. forces are to remain in an advise-and-assist mission.
That's wonderful to hear. Knowing that out soldiers are coming home to their families is such a great feeling. May they all he Blessed and may they all come home.
50,000 troops remain to assist the Iraqis in fighting the extremist. It is a misleading to say 'the last" combat troops are coming home. Ask the remaining 50,000 if they think they are "combat" troops. They just don't belong to a formerely designated fighting group, but make no mistake, they are just as combat as they get–just ask any soldier or marine? They would be insulted to be called something other than an integral part of the US fighting forces. It is only euphemistic to say "the last" combat troops are coming home. Don't buy the spin folks. Know the facts.
What the media fails to tell you is that this is simply part of a plan that George Bush agreed to prior to the end of his term. Obama takes credit for the withdrawal, but can't take credit for the economic situation.
