Caller confused, hurt by Dr. Laura's words

Nita Hanson told CNN she called Dr. Laura Schlessinger for help and never expected to hear the N-word uttered 11 times.

Schlessinger said earlier this week she would not continue her radio show after her contract runs out this year because she wants her First Amendment rights back. But Hanson, whose five-minute phone call about her white husband's friends and relatives making racist remarks led to the comments, said Schlessinger, 63, is old enough to know better.

Schlessinger has apologized and attempted to justify her comments by saying the word is commonly used on HBO and by black comedians.

"I think she apologized because she got caught," Hanson told CNN. "At this point, there's nothing she can do for me."

I am sending this message to all the Obama haters. This President is not taking excessive vacation time while trying to find solutions to America's problem. Remember this President began to work on Americ's problems long before he officially took over the office. Next, he has solicited solutions from both major parties, and experts. Solving America's financial woes will take a much longer time than it took us to get in over our heads. The question we must ask ourselves are we on the right path and my answer to that is not completely. We need to curb spending across the board here in America just as any household would do in a crisis. Blaming past administration will not solve the problem. Americans need to exercise patience and curb spending foolishly. We have a President that is willing to work hard for the people and we should allow him to do his job.

I hardly think Dr. Laura is a breath of fresh air. I believe her comments are rude – not thought provoking. I would never think of addressing people the way she does,. I guess being paid gives you the right to be rude and thoughtless. There is a fine line - and she has crossed it many times. I would think that if her" first amendment rights" are important to her and she feels she is being deprived, she could negotiate out of her contract right way.

Dr. Laura was set up, She did nothing wrong. We have become the country of the offended and it doesn't take much. I find this very offensive. Sorry she felt an apology was necessary.

I'm fascinated that you thought she was set up, could you explain how this could be when she has people screen the calls before she takes them, constantly interrupts and talks over people, and can cut them off at any point she wants to.

I agree with you in part. I don't think she was necessarily set up, but I do think we have become a nation too easily offended. I also agree with her comment that you take any african american song / show / movie / whatever, and you're going to hear the N word way more than 11 times, and not even that– the B word, the F word and the whatever you want word. And all in very depreciating contexts. But, here she is, using the word to make a point, and she gets NAACP'd, just like she said.

Dr. Laura is a twit. All of her brainless worshippers and apostles of her ridiculous self-righteous rants will have to reposition their antennae to whatever Fox dreams up to fill the gap between their ears.

I couldn't agree with you more - she didn't use the N word to offend her. It's crazy that blacks say the N word and that's OK, but if a white person says it, Lord help us all.... People just live to stir up trouble. And if someone bothers to apologize to you, be big enough to accept it and move on already.

Ken-it doesn't matter if your black or white, and just because your black doesn't mean you can excuse her behavior. Her use of the word was extreme and offensive.

The way I see it, we all have names. Why not use the christian and sir names instead of profaining someone we do not know or someone that could be offended. I try and see people as they are, starting with their names. Forget the profanity. So Dr. Laura made a bad impression. Why get on here when you are just looking to offend or be offended>

I may not necessarily agree with everything Dr. Laura speaks of. However, I guarantee if she were a black person and made the same comments it would not be an issue. Her examples were extreme but society accepts it when african americans use the word for various reasons. Ms. Hanson is looking for 15 minutes of fame. She should have considered the potential response she would receive from Dr. Laura before she called in. Al Sharpton is a racist opportunist who will use any cause to persecute the white culture. The problem in America is that reverse racism is more prevelant and tolerated than we realize. White folks are suppose to bend over and take it every time they are discriminated against which is more often than we realize. I am not a racist individual. I believe every one should be treated equal and move on.

Don't you people get it yet–>the only ACCEPTABLE hate and predjudice is @ fat people these days. And Michelle O is a leading preponent. So get your political correctness on and attack the fatties like you're supposed to! Leave the black peeps alone – unless you are targeting an obese one.

I agree – the only acceptable targets these days seem to be "fat people" and don't forget Christians. It's considered almost fashionable for people to offend Christians.

I don't understand...Hanson, the media, and the 'professional left' all pile on Schlessinger because she used a word that the caller today on CNN connected with civil rights and slavery, the latter a horrible chapter in American history that ended 150 yrs ago...that the caller had a right to her sensitivities. Yet in segment after segment, anchors and commentators are dismissing the sensitivities of 9/11 families and New Yorkers, those who were traumatized by events that happened nine short yrs ago in which 3000 people were slaughtered by Islamist terrorists.

The caller said she "listened to her all the time"...I don't know what she expected to get as Schlessinger has always been blunt, often to the point of obnoxiousness. She has also always cautioned individuals considering interfaith and interracial marriages precisely because of the kinds of problems these relationships have the potential to create. Her standard reply is that if you are not ready to handle the questions and comments this type of marriage often engenders, you should not enter into it. Basically, that you will need a super-thick skin, which Hanson evidently lacks.

Dr. Laura is correct in what she has to say about 80% of the time. The Bible however is right 100% of the time, and the Bible says that if what you say is TRUTH but you say it without love (in this case, true caring concern for the caller), then what you are saying has no more significance than a clanging gong.

You can smash someone with the truth and you haven't helped them one whit. You've destroyed them. But hey, you're right, and that's all that matters.

That said: The caller's problem isn't that Dr. Laura said the N word to her. The caller's problem is that she chose to marry a a cad who allows his friends to say denigrating words about her race. If one MY man's friends said something like that, he would throw them out of our house.
