Hilton arrested on suspicion of cocaine possession

Paris Hilton was released from a Las Vegas, Nevada, jail Saturday morning after being arrested late the night before on suspicion of cocaine possession, police said Saturday.

The hotel heiress was riding in a black Cadillac Escalade that was pulled over in front of the Wynn Hotel on the Vegas strip about 11:30 p.m. after police detected the smell of marijuana coming from the SUV, Lt. Wayne Holman told CNN.

The driver, whom police did not identify, was arrested for driving under the influence, he said.
Hilton was taken to the Clark County jail. She was released after authorities determined she was not a flight risk, Holman said.

Last month, Hilton was briefly detained in South Africa for allegedly smoking marijuana at the World Cup. Her publicist called the July 2 incident "a complete misunderstanding," and the case was dropped.

To Lauradet, The white system will work just like it did for OJ, Robert Blake, there is no justice for these people.
it does not matter if you are Black or white as long as you are famous. When are we ever going to get away from the race card?

It ain't fame folks, it's moolah. Big dollar lawyers get much better consideration in front of judges because they usually hold or attend fundraisers for judge's re-election campaigns.

Have to 2nd that $$ not race comment.
The only reason it seems like famous people get off easy is because they are the ones we hear about because, you guessed it, THEIR FAMOUS!! It is also a fact, for whatever reason, there are less famous people of color or "non-white" ethnicities (or is it ys?) so what are we left with. Most "newsworthy" reports of drugs are of famous white people.

The really sad thing is we are the reason it all happens in the first place, in reference to the fact their famous. Someone commented earlier on the fact that Paris is famous because of her grandfather, no, it because of us. If we didn't watch CNN then buy what they're selling (litteraly. Advertising) then run here and again prove the point that it matters, cuz here we are, and CNN raitings go higher, they can charge more for advertising, we buy more of what they are advertising, rinse, repeat...

It's really too bad. For me ignorance is bliss. I don't even watch the local news cuz I can tell it's going to rain by looking out the window (not to say I don't participate in the consumer world just try to be concious of it).

Nothing in this world really matters except FAMILY and FRIENDS. Honestly, but you may have to experience a personal tradgedy to accept that (I guess I am lucky that mine happened early enough in life to appreciate it).

WOW, that seemed really negative and dark, he replies to his own post.

Sorry not intended to be so. but the fact remains, we all drive all this stuff. If we didn't pay attention it would go away. It will never really all go away but if you as an individual stopped paying attention it wouldn't matter to you.

Surprised? NO! She was arrested in South Africa, but her assistant took the fall for her. She like everyone else including stars (especiallywhite stars-Charlie Sheen) need to be held accountable for their actions.

I'm no fan of Paris Hilton at all. But I bet that most of us are fans of various celebrities that did loads of cocaine back when. The venomous and gloating comments here are shallow, and I doubt the moral superiority of most of these critics.

So this is literally the third time she has been accused of illicit drug possession in the last three months. One in France, one in South Africa, and finally one here. Awesome. Lets treat her like any other common American and let her sit in jail for a month.

I think she is being treated like the rest of us. The copsmessed up her fun, she has to go to court, blah blah.

The difference is she has the $$ to get out of it, just like you would. $$ is where it's at. It's also why we keep having to hear about this petty crap, cuz we keep buying into it and they keep making money off us. They being CNN or any news outlet, Paris, the advertisers on this great website etc.

I guess it's important for us all to have a social place to make comments but why do we keep perpetuating stuff like Paris. I would love to do an experiment. If we ALL just completely ignore the next report of Paris or Lindsay or GaGa or whoever it is next, just COMPLETELY IGNORE IT< ALL OF US< I wonder if the one after that would even be reported.

3 felonies a day? you are clearly misinformed, that's not even remotely true. And to suggest the Las Vegas police are to blame for this is even more ludicrous, the police don't follow people trying to get them in trouble, if you get arrested it is more likely than not, for good reason. I don't know if you remember but this is defiantly not the first time shes been in trouble

They do in a lot of other countries, it usually involves the police pulling other or bothering tourists in the hope that they are breaking some bylaw in some way. They want paying off and usually let you go if you slip them some money and you usually have to pay them because you have technically broken the law (or they make you think you have)

So why not police in our own country?

It is effectively a guarentee that she/someone in a black Cadillac Escalade will be breaking the law, plus if it did smell of coke.

She was arrested because she was breaking the law but it was obvious (especially with a tip-off) that she was going to be. It does not always mean that they are corrupt, they are after all just doing their jobs even if they are investigating you purely on who you are whether you are a tourist or rich/famous.

First of all, when are the news organizations like CNN going to realize that she is, despite her weath, a useless nobody.
She has never accomplished a single damn thing in her life, yet she gets endless coverage for everything she does.
Why is her arrest worthy of a "BREAKING NEWS" headline? I'm so sick to death of hearing about her everywhere I turn.

I agree – why we ordinary people do not get recognized for our many accomplishments and contributions to the society? Why is the media only interested in celebrities who use all their wealth on drugs? Can't they serve as examples and role models for Americans that the country should be a drug-free land? Believe it or not, I have never used a single type of drug in my whole life! Paris Hilton getting all the attention because of her wealth, fame, and association with the Hilton Hotel chain is all a joke. Can't she help make a difference for the society? I am totally deaf-blind and I am working tirelessly for the well-being of others and I ask for nothing in return.

She's young, spoiled, rich and thinks her name can get her out of anything. As long as people pay her $500,000 in appearance fees, I don't think she cares about the bad publicity she gets caught up in every once in a while. Her getting done for blow will be old news in a weeks time...does anyone actually think she will do prison time? More than 3 hours? And even more important: who CARES what she's doing? there are thousands of 'regular' people being charged with the same offense every day. One day we simply have to realize that celebrities are people, just like us, and do the same mistakes...only that they have 20 photographers follow them around shooting pics of them picking their nose. There's more important things out there people!

She likes supporting the drug cartels in Mexico. Suggest they take her down there so she can see what her drug habits cost is in lives! See the nice scenery of bodies hanging from the bridges. Being self centered destroys lives and is the greatest cause of child abuse keep it up idiots

This is a great comment because I wonder if any of these people could see the damage the demand for drugs is doing to Mexico would make a difference. Maybe sentence Paris to a month living in a Mexican village in the middle of a drug war.
