Dutch paper: Van der Sloot admits extortion

Joran van der Sloot admitted in an interview with a Dutch newspaper that he extorted money from the family of Natalee Holloway, but his attorney in a Peruvian murder case suggested Monday that his client's comments may have been mistranslated.

Attorney Maximo Alteza said he is not involved in the case of Holloway, the Alabama teenager who disappeared in Aruba after going out on the town with van der Sloot, and was reluctant to comment on van der Sloot's interview with The Telegraph.

"Maybe there were some mistakes in the translation," he said. Alteza said van der Sloot was not paid for the interview.

"I wanted to get back at Natalee's family," van der Sloot said from prison in the Dutch interview. "Her parents have been making my life tough for five years."

"When they offered to pay for the girl's location, I thought: 'Why not?'" he said.

This guy is one trip. I wonder just how far he will go before his sources of legal protection wear thin.

I'm wondering why this killer expects any kind of special treatment. He was paying Natalee's family back for the past 5 years?? Really?!! What about the rest of their lives that they live without Natalee? How do they get that back?

Oh, I am sure a Dutchman's remarks to a Dutch newspaper for publication in Holland were mistranslated into Dutch. This is act 100, Aria 1000, of that famous opera, "The Lying Dutchman".

Lying piece of crap! He'll do anything for media attention. I've said it before.....if he wants one milllion dollars for an interview (which I heard he was asking) we could make a movie about him called SLIME DOG MILLIONAIRE!!! Why can't he just be shot by now?

Where are Nancy Grace,Gloria Aldred,Diane Diamond and all the other idiots who tried and convicted MICHAEL JACKSON in the court of public opinion? I am not hearing the outrage over NATALIE'S murder these women had over the alleged molestation charges against Michael. I guess the innocent are persecuted more than the blantantly guilty!

You have to love to defense lawyer's comment: maybe there were some errors in the translation (of Joran's interview). I think van der Sloot didn't really confess to lying and extortion of money from Natalee's parents. What he meant was:
"I took money from her mother in order to find out who killed Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. I have info about that case."

As a translator from http://www.etranslate.com.br I got shocked with this excuse. To blame the translation in a serious matter like this is not fair. People should be responsible for their acts, not to blame a professional translator... Shame on him!
