Quran-burning could endanger troops, Petraeus warns

The U.S. commander in Afghanistan on Monday criticized a Florida church's plan to burn copies of the Quran on September 11, warning the demonstration "could cause significant problems" for American troops overseas.

"It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan," Gen. David Petraeus said in a statement issued Monday.

The Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, plans to mark the anniversary of al Qaeda's September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington by burning copies of the Muslim holy book. The church insists the event is "neither an act of love nor of hate," but a warning against what it calls the threats posed by Islam.

Islam is peace, but those radical clerics change it to whatever agenda they want (no different than wako texas and jonestown cults). These people will kill american soldiers no matter what. What the church is doing is no different than what is happening to NY with the Mosque next to the trade towers... you have the right to do it, but being politically correct about it is something else.

None of the Abrahamic religions are peaceful. All are based on doomsday scenarios and forcing others into your camp. For peaceful religions look at the Asian religions.

This man does not speak for every christian. There was a time in our history where christians were radical. Killing all those who werent christian. Religion is made up people and people are flawed. Both the Quran and the Holy Bible are made up of scriptures to build up. This man is trying to tear down. I ama christian but I also understand that in the book of Genesis. Ishmal was promised his own people as Isaac. All know that Islam is through the line of Ishmal and Christianity through Issac. Its the fullfillment of the scripture. Who knows our history. Those people were not right no but does thi mean that Americans have never been terriorist in our very own country and in others people country....hummm. Check your history...As a black women...whould it be okay for me to lynch because it happen to my people.....I think not

It's unbelievable how selfish the people of the Dove church are. Burning books won't serve any purpose other than to exacerbate the situation. I don't get what their point is. One of my nephews will be leaving next wk for his 3rd tour in Iraq, what Dove is doing is directly endangering his life & the lives of his fellow soldiers. How the Dove jerks can sleep at night is beyond me. For the sake of our Nation's safety, I wish someone would stop them before it's too late!

How would the church feel if members of an Islamic group burned the Bible? The Christian group should not do something this offensive. It isn't all Muslims that are radical. Take the middle road and don't be a radical looks bad for a lot of Americans and could cause harm to come to some overseas.

  4. Not this type of religious person

This priest should be striped of citizenship because he is mixing politics and religion. He should also be investigated as a potential child molester as he is obviously not of sound mind.....

Yes you must not protest islam because it is not really a religion of violence! And by protesting it you are risking the lives of countless people....wait what?

Muhammad spread his religion by the sword and was responsible for the execution and murder of thousands. The prophet of islam is a murderer. To christians who's prophet is Jesus, a man whos most violent act was over turning tables when people where using a church as a marketplace they really don't understand why people are making them the bad guys.

Jesus preached love and tolerance...perhaps that is the one way in which this pastor IS mistaken in what he is doing.

But then again, no one is killing thousands of people in the name of Jesus. And if you cite the f'ing crusades that happened during the g-danm middle ages...then don't even waste your breath.

I am a Jew. When I hear bigots like this Dove Church pastor spew against Islam and tell people to burn the Quran, I remember all we've read and learned about what went on under Hitler. No, fundamentalist Christian zealots are not killing U.S. Muslims yet, but what it happening, to those who know much about 1930s Europe, is very frightening.

what purpose will it serve the church when they burn the noble quran? The only thing that they will succee in doing, is to try and prove the radical muslims right. By that action it will make the (radical muslims) think that indeed americans are anti-islam. To my brother joe realist, Muhammad (PBUH) is no muderer, he stood against the oppressor. Thank you.

Maybe if the media did not report, publicize, and make national every crackpot idea rfom every twobit hate monger we would have less trouble in the world and in the USA. This pastor has the free-speech right to say essentially whatever he wants but there is no right that his every work should be published nationwide.

    Smokey the Bear
By Steve Nelson and Jack Rollins

With a Ranger's hat and shovel
    and a pair of dungarees,
you will find him in the forest
    always sniffin' at the breeze.
    People stop and pay attention
when he tells 'em to beware,
    'cause ev'rybody knows that
    he's the Fire Prevention Bear.

Smokey the Bear, Smokey the Bear.
Prowlin' and a growlin' and a sniffin' the air.
He can find a fire before it starts to flame.
That's why they call him Smokey,
That was how he got his name.

You can take a tip from Smokey
that there's nothin' like a tree.
'cause they're good for kids to climb in
    and they're beautiful to see,
you just have to look around you
    and you'll find it's not a joke,
to see what you'd be missin'
if they all went up in smoke.

Smokey the Bear, Smokey the Bear.
Prowlin' and a growlin' and a sniffin' the air.
He can find a fire before it starts to flame.
That's why they call him Smokey,
That was how he got his name.

You can camp upon his doorstep
    and he'll make you feel at home;
You can run and hunt and ramble
    anywhere you care to roam.
He will let you take his honey
and pretend he's not so smart,
but don't you harm his trees
for he's a Ranger in his heart.

Smokey the Bear, Smokey the Bear.
Prowlin' and a growlin' and a sniffin' the air.
He can find a fire before it starts to flame.
That's why they call him Smokey,
That was how he got his name.

If you've ever seen the forest
when a fire is running wild,
and you love the things within it
like a mother loves her child,
then you know why Smokey tells you
when he sees you passing through,
    "Remember...please be careful....
its the least that you can do."

Smokey the Bear, Smokey the Bear.
Prowlin' and a growlin' and a sniffin' the air.
He can find a fire before it starts to flame.
That's why they call him Smokey,
That was how he got his name.

Typical religious nuts going at each other. There is no such thing as a peacefull religion an here's more evidence to support it. I just wish people would smarten up and cast these fairy tales away to the past as more fear mongering.
