Pastor weighing plans to burn Qurans amid U.S. warnings

The pastor of a Florida church planning to burn Qurans told CNN Tuesday while the congregation plans to go through with the action to protest the September 11, 2001 attack on the United States by al Qaeda, the church is "weighing" its intentions.

Terry Jones, pastor of Dove World Outreach Church in Gainesville, Florida, who was interviewed on CNN's "American Morning, said the congregation is taking seriously the warning from the U.S. military that the act could cause problems for American troops.

"We have firmly made up our mind, but at the same time, we are definitely praying about it," said Jones said.

"We are definitely weighing the situation. We are weighing the thing that we're about to do. What it possibly could cause. What is our actual message. What are we trying to get across."

The planned action has drawn sharp criticism from Muslims around the world and U.S. officials.

It is unfortunately characteristic of the fundamentalist mentality to fail looking at the larger picture. Not only would this action offend nearly 2 billion persons who regard this book as God's word, it is against the Biblical scripture this church professes to follow.

Maybe you should have done that weighing before you caused an international fracas.

Typical. A false prophet hiding his hatred behind the word of God. Jesus told us to love and respect others. Let His light shine and He will draw all men to Him. This pastor's mistargeted act of hatred is not letting God's light shine. How much wrong must be done in the name of God?

There will be no good that will come from this, I know this, we all know this. So my question is. Why are you CNN and / or anyone, thinking it's a good idea to give this guy, and his dumb idea, world wide coverage

I might have more sympathy for the Muslims in their outrage over the burning of their Koran if, in their protests they were not burning my American Flag. I would also like CNN call the Muslims out on this.

I agree with you 100 percent!!! They can burn our flags, burn dolls of our presidents, make all sorts of comments. Yet we can are not allowed to even make a comic, denounce their faith or burn what they believe in. I see a huge double standard for the benefit for a people stuck back in the middle ages. It simply is not right.

Thats my rant and I thank you so much for making your post

what are you doing? do you know what manner of spirit ye are of? why are you holding a religous ceromony out of vengeance? it is not of God. it is noting but being quick to anger! we are called to be children of the light, by no means are we a light of God in this matter! do ye not know that not every one will accept the Lord? No people will continue in their own ways, which are not Gods ways! you cant force them by burning their matterial possesions! the best wittness of the truly saved believer ( the best wittness anybody can have) is their walk with Christ!! we should want peace, we are to love our neighbor as our selfs, regardless of their own ways, because they are just a man who has fallen short of the glory of God just like all the rest of us, who with out Are doomed for an eternal hell fire, its is when i remember that i was no better then they are before i came to know christ, and what christ offered to me he offers to all who will!
with this maddness going on brothers and sister, how are we to witness to them, how are we to have compassion on the lost if we are slapping them and spitting on them? yes their ways are wronge, but if allow this to happen we do nothing but give the devil an oppertunity, giving him an excuse against us! in other words we would be just like them! we are called to be a seprate people, doing that dont make us any diffrent.!!!!
wake up peoples, do you really know God?

Why knock yourself down to others levels? Doesn't seem like something an open, tolerant religion would do. Good way to start your own holy war.

Call me ignorant, thats fine with me. But I say, they burned our flag countless times, burned our bible countless times, cheered in the streets like animals when our citizens were beheaded, now and american decides to stand up and give them a taste of their own poisen and its a problem? We should fear the repercussion from a barbaric and self rightceous country, religion, whatever? Im so sick of americans always being held to a higher standard than the rest of the world. We should pull our support and funding and let u animals rip eachother apart.

I have a lighter and lighter fluid. Though I am saddened that it has come to such tactics, it needs to be done. They (the extremest) have attacked our country and any religion that isn't theirs. I have family in Afghanistan and Iraq fighting for the USA and freedom. A stand against that mentality needs to be taken every way possible. Burn baby Burn. If we continue to turn a blind eye and hide we will become them. They are poised to take over. That's their goal. It is the fastest growing religion present time.

How will burning books make a difference? It won't; it will only exacerbate the problem. If you further anger terrorists, you will have earned what you receive next.

And let's be clear about who "them" refers to. It's the terrorists/extremists only. You do make note of this fact in passing, yet your words and actions are attacks on all Muslims. Insulting 1,500,000,000 people just because you're rightly mad at only a handful of them is terribly irreverent, contemptible, short-sighted, and selfish.

I cannot understand why so many people feel so compelled to inflict thier version of "god" upon each other. If everyone would just keep their "god" to themselves, the world would be a better place.
