Release of U.S. hiker Sarah Shourd 'canceled,' Iran says

Iran's semi-official news agency ILNA reported Friday that the release
of American hiker Sarah Shourd has been "canceled," because legal procedures have not been completed.

Shourd, one of three American hikers held in Iran for more than a year,
was supposed to be released Saturday.

She, along with Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, were detained July 31, 2009,  after they allegedly strayed across an unmarked border into Iran while hiking  in Iraq's Kurdistan region.

How much use are 3 young people with hiking gear on the border? Perhaps we should lock up everyone near the border with the US simply for tresspassing indefinately.

In a way, it is. If Cokehead McGee never invaded Iraq, these dumb hipsters wouldn't find it as cool to gallivant around there with a cooler full of PBR, and this never would have happened.

What's really going to come as a surprise is when Iran beheads her on national TV in retaliation for book burnings that no one in the US has the balls to do.

Not sure what you're talking about, but I'm going to be burning several boxes of the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, and Dianetics on 9/11 in honor of Terry Jones's wackjob cult and its 30 hillbilly members. If I don't get international attention, with coverage from the BBC and CNN like Jones got, I'm going to be really peaved.

Look people. American citizens deserve our support, sure. But face it. These eco-hippy types who are nowhere near the age of kids, made very poor choices. Thinking they could just dance around Iraq/iran border without facing serious potential threat? Plain naive and very, very stupid. I bet they told everyone they met how much they hate America before this happened.

I hope this comes as no surprise to anyone. Ask the relatives of the American hostages held in the American embassy in Tehran for 444 days in late 1970's how many times they (as well as the rest of the world) were told that their loved ones were going to be released and weren't.

Why would a Jewish woman(shourd is a jewish name) go hiking in Iran, either she stupid or working for Mossad

Plenty of secular jews who don't align with Israel or America. Just look at the many jews who work for the ACLU. She is probably an apologist regarding Israel, anyhow. Stupid eco-tourist types.

The Florida pastor may be a borderline idiot, but I doubt if he has anything to do with Iran's reversal. I base that opinion upon the integrity Iran has previously demonstrated in such matters. If it is related to him; then instead blame the press who bears the responsibility for keeping this irrational fool front and center for days when he should have been shunned and ignored by all and openly rebuked by true Christians.

What to do this weekend...hey, maybe I'll go hike the mountains of Afghanistan...run around in the streets of Pakistan in a bikini...or head down to Tijauna for a hotdog with my new Prada purse. All brilliant ideas just like these smart Americans had hiking around in Iraq. I applaud them for their spontaneity.
