Report: U.S., Saudis close to largest arms deal ever

Boeing F-15 fighter jets like these would be a large part of the reported arms deal.

The United States may be on the verge of its largest arms sale ever, a package of aircraft and weapons systems for Saudi Arabia that could total $60 billion when the final bill is done, according to a report in Monday’s Wall Street Journal.

If completed, the deal could also generate more than 75,000 jobs, the Journal reported.

The Obama administration is expected to notify Congress of the planned sale this week, according to the Journal report. Production would take place over five to 10 years, the Journal said.

Key components of the sale would be Boeing F-15 fighter jets – as many as 84 new ones and the refurbishment of 70 others – and helicopters including 70 Apaches, 72 Black Hawks and three dozen Little Birds.

Discussions are also under way over naval and missile defense systems for the Saudis, the Journal reported.

Meanwhile, Boeing is a contender in another F-15 sale, this time to South Korea.

The Korea Times reported Monday that the Pentagon has approved a Boeing request to market a stealth version of the F-15, dubbed the Silent Eagle, to Seoul.

The Times points out, however, that Lockheed-Martin’s F-35 Lightning and the Eurofighter Typhoon may be stronger contenders to win a South Korean order for 60 fighter jets.

In fact, surprised that you think we hate America

That is because you are not a good Muslim Sami. Good Muslims hate America. Our problem is with the good Muslims, not progressing, intellectual modern thinking Muslims who share secular values with us such as freedom of speech, gender equality, and human rights. That is the problem, that Muslims need to start being bad Muslims, just as we are bad Christians. 600 years ago when most Christians were good Christians we were as fanatical, violent, and radical as your good Muslims are today if not more. As soon as the Renascence and the Enlightenment took place we began to question the values of fanatical Christianity. Then we began to be bad Christians. Blind faith began to be questioned and reason became king. That is what Muslims need to do as well.

What great news do we have today. We are gonna give the greatest defense contract to the the most Extremist Fundamentalist Islamist Nation on Earth. The homeland of Wahabi Islam and terrorist funding for the world. We shouldn't be arming these people with our weapons, we should destroy this nation from the face of the earth.

This for their funding of terrorism and their teaching of fascist fundamentalist Islam. How do we have such short memories. Remember Iran in the 70s? They got our best weapons before our Armed forces even got them. Then a little man called Khomeini fermented a revolution and turned a glass of wine into a glass of vinegar.

When will our government learn? I would rather make a deal with Russia for a pipeline of crude oil and Natural gas from Russia to Alaska, across Canada to the Continental U.S. instead of paying one more dime for these people's poison.

I don't even trust them with just a truck of C-4, trust them much less with a tank and none at all with an F-15. Like I said, I would rather sell weapons to Russia than to sell it to Saudi Arabia. This is just wrong.

We should not do this. They are going to get better hardware than eveWe should n our own military and Israel. I will not vote for this administration again. They are failing us miserably. The new F-15 SE is far superior to ours and uses Stealth technology

I thought the US didn't approve of the way Iran treats women, which is the same way Saudi Arabia does. Oh, but wait, there's money involved. much money is women's rights worth to the US government?

So whats the outrage about with the right on having a member of the royal family financing the mosque near ground zero? Yet we are selling weapons to the Saudis and it is ok for the right wingers? Did I mention that the same royal also owns part of Fox news?

I knew there was a big arms deal in the pipeline when Hillary went on her fear-mongering tour of the Gulf states with her message of "You're either with us or with the big bad wolf (Iran)". Or in other words, BUY OR FRY!

Her veiled threat must have jogged the Saudi leaders' memories of what happened the last time they spited the US by cutting back on defense spending; Yep, we unleashed Saddam on them. This time, it's Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollahs who we are casting in the role of the great ogre threatening to stomp all over the region. Have to give full credit to the industrial military complex. Still got it going on!

Did she REALLY wear a veil when she made that threat? I thought she managed to avoid having to wear a burqa 😉

This is about the power of the defense industry complex. The know that the Saudis have loads of money. They know that the Europeans, including the Brits are beginning to sell high tech weapons like the Eurofighter to the Saudis. They know that the Saudis are even willing to buy Russian equipment and they don't want to skip the train to get all those oil billions. The reality is both we and the Europeans are bunch of money hogs who would rather risk their national security for the sake of a big buck. Outrageous.

I would rather sell weapons to Russia, Venezuela, Vietnam even Cuba than to sell weapons to Saudi Arabia. Not only are we giving them these high tech weapons, we will also have to train their personal how to fight. It won't be much longer until we find out that some of the Saudi security personal we have trained has carried out a terrorist attack on us.
