Report: U.S., Saudis close to largest arms deal ever

Boeing F-15 fighter jets like these would be a large part of the reported arms deal.

The United States may be on the verge of its largest arms sale ever, a package of aircraft and weapons systems for Saudi Arabia that could total $60 billion when the final bill is done, according to a report in Monday’s Wall Street Journal.

If completed, the deal could also generate more than 75,000 jobs, the Journal reported.

The Obama administration is expected to notify Congress of the planned sale this week, according to the Journal report. Production would take place over five to 10 years, the Journal said.

Key components of the sale would be Boeing F-15 fighter jets – as many as 84 new ones and the refurbishment of 70 others – and helicopters including 70 Apaches, 72 Black Hawks and three dozen Little Birds.

Discussions are also under way over naval and missile defense systems for the Saudis, the Journal reported.

Meanwhile, Boeing is a contender in another F-15 sale, this time to South Korea.

The Korea Times reported Monday that the Pentagon has approved a Boeing request to market a stealth version of the F-15, dubbed the Silent Eagle, to Seoul.

The Times points out, however, that Lockheed-Martin’s F-35 Lightning and the Eurofighter Typhoon may be stronger contenders to win a South Korean order for 60 fighter jets.

hope they crash them into their own buildings this time. Really who are the Saudis planning to attack or defend themselves from? They don't need jets, they already pay us to protect them anyway.

p.s. The actual problem is our president and administration do not absolutely believe Heaven exists. We won WWII because most people went to church on Sundays. If you didnt, the old ladies in the neighborhood would get ya from their front porches. So everyone absolutely believed in Heaven. That came from everyone absolutely believing in God. Now here is the problem. God has been sending people to Heaven to make his point too. Look at the events.
The problem is years ago in the deserts of the Middle East there was nothing to do. So they came up with the Muslim religion. They pray at specific times of the day and ride camels around. Some got horses. They believe firmly in Heaven. Fast forward to present.
They are praying at specific times, still firmly believe in Heaven and are about to get nuclear weapons. And God...
He has been saying to our president, get some courage. Start believing in Heaven. Get your soldiers into Iran or I can kill zero people in an event or I can send an unlimited amount.

Like Ahmed, I also wonder why Saudi Arabia feels they need these weapons? Every country needs its defense but do they feel threatened? Or is this an Obama deal to help bail out the USA from some of its huge debt?

I agree, I find some of the comments irational.
and If we went to war with Saudi Arabia they would cut off American oil supply disabling the American Economy and I think Americans have superior technology in the works anyway. In the name of logic Think PPL

This is great news, 75000 jobs and up to 60 billion, this is a chance to make a dent in our national debt. If you think this is wrong consider the fact that we are selling f-15s, and while they are good fighters we still have the f-22 and better arial supirior fighting machines. The american goverment has made alot of retarded decisions but mostly in local politics and never in a way that gives a country militaristic supiriority over us.

just out of curiosity, how does this get us out of debt? Did the gov takeover Lockheed Martin and didn't tell us? $60B, lmao, the way this president spends money, that's chump change. I agree job creation sounds great, but the real winner in this deal will be the unions, funny how that works out.

PS to the poster who said something about ;'this is why the USA is hated". Got an idea slick, the next time your country need humanitarian help, defense, medicine, food, call the fuc***n Cubans, or Hugo, maybe China will run to your rescue.
