A bore hole reached 33 trapped Chilean miners Friday, officials said, but it must be widened before miners can squeeze through - a process that should take a few weeks.

Wow ..... what is up with all the god comments? I'm pretty sure the drilling rig operated by engineers and a drilling team are what reached those men. Perhaps some praise for them is in order instead of for some mythical deity that may or may not exist? What is up with the hyper evangelism/ religious zealotry that has engulfed so many Americans? I sure hope this contagion doesn't spread North.....

  3. Non Religious Fanatic

Wow do you religious fanatics irritate me. God has nothing to do with this tragic event that occured. These men were trapped due to a geological act and an insufficient escape route. These men will be rescued due to several people who have banded together to work hard and get them out, oh yea and a large drill. Not sure where god comes into play.

If someone doesnt want to believe in god, thats their prerogative. Nobody needs to listen to this pyscho babble about not beliving and being judged when deceased. That being said, if you want to praise the almighty for this harrowing rescue, I think its just as fair to blame god for it happening in the first place.

If someone wants to believe in God that is their prerogative also – it irritates me that you feel so insecure that you have to berate a Believer. Nobody needs to listen to your babble either. So why can't you and yours just ignore the posts you don't like and go on? I don't think you have made any post on this thread about the article – just this one post venting about a subject that obviously makes you nervous. That says more about YOUR nature.....

The people espousing religion in here are taking glory away from the skilled and dedicated professionals working to save these 33 men, and redirecting that praise towards their invisible friend.

Frankly, that's pretty offensive. That'd be like me saying "Praise Loki! He gave the trapped miners the cleverness to survive! And praise Ganesh! As the God of Obstacles and Breaking Down Obstacles, he is guiding the hand of the engineers working to free the miners!"

sheppard, you hit the nail on the head: "prerogative" – which has zero to do with facts.

to 'pay attention' – exactly – I was not making the argument for either side – simply pointing out that the non-believers who feel the need to be so condescending and rude better look to their own agenda as well. Faith cannot explained as a 'fact'... anymore that than a lack of faith can be.

ha, now you're really reaching. still not paying attention at all, but perhaps you are just ill equipped. fact very much supports lack of belief in fantasy. good luck.

Too many churches, not enough libraries. If we can't get past our narrow-minded vision of "God", we won't last. Science and engineering are going to save these miners. I'm not denying the existence of "God", but let's get real people, if he answered prayers, there would be a lot more people on this Earth, and they'd all be a lot happier.

We should remove the tax exempt status from religious organizations and use the tax money from the t!thing income to fund libraries and education.

The only problem would be figuring out how to keep the libraries open when the churches go out of business for lack of attendance.

Actually it has been scientifically proven that touching Chuck Norris' beard will inevitably lead to being on the recieving end of a Chuck Norris round-house kick.

If God does exist, then prove it! Otherwise all you religous people just keep your thoughts on God to yourselves. For if there is a god, he gave us all the will to think for ourselves.

"Maybe God put them in that situation to make them stronger people for something later in life."

No, you have it quite wrong. God buried them alive as punishment for their sins and then Satan intervened with the drill so that they could live to sin some more.

It's really quite obvious if you just think about it for a bit.

      Hail Satan!

Maybe God wanted them to die to get to heaven and avoid some great suffering on Earth, and Satan interfered with that?

I think we need to take all the posters here who said "Thank God" and put them down in that hole for 10 days. Then when we pull them out if they say "Praise God" push them back down into the hole for another 10 days. Repeat this process until they say "Thank you for all your hard work in getting me out of that hole." Without mentioning god, because God does not control our actions.
