Missing 'cult-like' group found alive after suicide fears

A group of 13 Salvadoran immigrants missing in southern California amid fears that they planned a cult-like mass suicide have been found alive, a sheriff's spokesman said Sunday.

Authorities had been scouring the Palmdale area of northern Los Angeles County on horseback and by helicopter Sunday in search of the group, which included eight children between the ages of 3 and 17, said Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. A resident spotted one of the vehicles identified in the lookout and notified the sheriff's department, he said.

I realize in a time like this it's very difficult to exercise some self-restraint and refrain from lambasting religion and cults (I know I want to ), but in the interest of the children, let's just hope they are all found alive and well, and even if it doesn't fit into your paradigm of reality and you think prayer is for feeble minded religious folk, it couldn't hurt to send a little positive energy, that is, of course, as long as it doesn't offend you to do so...

"refrain from lambasting religion and cults" Why? I make fun of stupid people every chance I get. I'm trying to shame them into THINKING FOR THEMSELVES instead of blindly following the illogic of CAVEMEN who did not understand science. Or reality, with all the naturally occurring drugs they were ingesting. Peyote, psylocybin mushrooms, alcohol, and yes, cannabis. Drug use certainly does produce strange pattens of thought, especially in a species that has been evolving for over 2 billion years. You morons who accept religion cannot fathom the length of time of 2 billion (earth) years. That's only 365 DAYS for each one!

YOU MEAN SANTA CLAUS ISN'T REAL? Next you'll tell me there's no Tooth Fairy and no Easter Bunny!

Why is it whenever some nut bag who owns a bible does some crazy stuff like this, all of the good living Christians are all lumped into one category with these nuts and called cults? There's a lot of good living Christians in this world (as well as Jews and Muslims and all other religious beliefs) who would never in their life hurt others. That's my two cents worth.

Derp durp, because they implicitly associate themselves with the nutjobs by joining the same CULT. You retard.

Religion: (noun) a large, popular cult.

Cult: (noun) a small, unpopular religion.

@qballnv You've got the right idea man...put aside the dogma (on both sides) and pray, send positive energy, or do whatever non dik-heads do when they hoping that some innocent kids have a chance to live their lives.

'sending positive energy' is just about as retarded as praying, and is very nearly synonymous. Oh, please tell me, what's the shipping rate on positive energy? Can i send it in bulk? Where can I pick some up/

You know what? Sometimes, as much as you want to help, you can't. Yes it's frustrating, but we're not children, and adults with imaginary friends are people who kill abortion doctors in 'houses of the lord,' churches. How ironic is that? "Hey god I'm gonna kill this guy IN YOUR HOUSE!"

    god loves little children
he has the power to save them
but these kids will die if they're not found
if they are focibly made to commit suicide,
will god take them to heaven or
allow them to burn in hell

"he has the power to save them" BUT HE WONT! I GUARANTEE you, if they ARE found, it won't be by god, it'll be by some random passer-by, or maybe a police helicopter or you know what? FOR ALL WE KNOW they went on a camping trip for the weekend and they're all gonna show up safe and sound Monday morning, and say "yeah we visited the cemetery where our relatives are buried, then we went camping." Of we'll find them all overdosed on bleach, or maybe we won't find them at all.
So why would you worship something that *could* save them, but doesn't? I met this muslim kid online in this game we both play. He told me he's diabetic. And he's muslim. And I asked "Why would you worship a god that made you a diabetic?" (he logged off.)

GOOD FOR THEM!!!! If only EVERYONE that believes they are going to see god when they die would not try to avoid it so much the world would be a much better place. I feel we should encourage ALL WHO TRULY BELIEVE, nay, we must point out it is the DUTY OF ALL WHO BELIEVE to hurry towards their god. Find a way to die soon... off cliffs, drown in ocean, car crash (avoiding non-believers or you go straight to hell without passing god or collecting your seven virgins, as the case may be). DON'T avoid the greatness of heaven: GO SOON. Grab the next train. 'Bye!

Many of you atheists sprawling over the CNN board are just as crazy as these religious fanatics. You attack, you persecute, you hate people of faith.

    Why Cult-like?
This is a Christian group. They are believers in Jesus.
If a group of radical Muslims decide to do themselves in we wouldn't call them a cult.. They'd just be considered Muslim by the press.
Say Christian Cult perhaps.. But this headline is meant as pr cover for the Christian establishment.
Too embarrassing to admit they have crazy followers too... That's just for "those" people

get off your high horse, you make no sense. this has more to do with mental illness. do you understand that mental illness is more common that most people think? relgion doesn't make you do anything. it's people who are not emtionally and mentally stable that go off the deep end. this has nothing to do with god.
