Supreme Court rejects woman's death-row appeal

The  Supreme Court on Tuesday denied an appeal by Teresa Lewis to halt her execution in the state of Virginia. The execution is scheduled for Thursday night.

Lewis pleaded guilty to her role in the 2002 slayings of her husband and stepson in their rural home near Danville, about 145 miles from Richmond, Virginia. Two male co-conspirators - the triggermen - were given life in prison without parole.

Lewis and her lawyers had formally asked Gov. Bob McDonnell to spare her life, arguing she has an IQ that is borderline mentally retarded and that she was manipulated to commit the crimes by a dominant male co-defendant.

McDonnell on Friday rejected the request, and Lewis' lawyers appealed to the Supreme Court.

This woman can still be rehabilitated. Furthermore, she does not pose a direct threat to society. Therefore, according to the rules set out by John Paul II, she must be spared the death penalty. This is because she is made in the image pf God! Her soul is immortal and she more than anyone else needs help. Here is a role for President Obama: to halt this injustice! Remember my words, Mr. President! Whoever reads this post, please deliver the message to the President of the United States, in God's Name!

Be gone! Back to the desert with you and your idiotic pseudo-religious blabbering. No, on second thought - just join the tea party! We need another crack(tea)pot on the political scene!

Where are the international appeals and marches? Is the life of an Iranian adulteress whose lover killed her husband more valuable than the life of this American woman?

I agree with you also, Salayem. The world is becoming less and less human! Once the media has been brainwashed into "leaving God out," there is no incentive for them to defend people in desperate need of defense. If they made an exception for Ashtiani in Iran, it was only because some politicians pressed them to do so, to annoy Iran!

      1. Her 'confession' was delivered after torture. 2. People generally consider adultery to be a crime much less serious than murder. In most countries it's not even a crime, only grounds for divorce.

Don't trade a crime with another one by executing her, Low IQ or high IQ ALL lives must be respected & allowed to live.

In many ways. 1. You can vote. 2. Women can drive and leave their homes without being escorted. 3. People can choose among several religions (or none at all) and worship in public. 3. Adultery is not punishable by death. 4. You can drink alcohol (though you cannot smoke Cannabis, which is a significantly less addictive and dangerous drug).
