Vets CFO on Obama: 'I am exhausted of defending you'

President Obama was hearing an earful from voters at a town hall meeting in the nation’s capitol yesterday.

Anger and disappointment was voiced by many in attendance, including Velma Hart, Chief Financial Officer for “American Vets” and Ted Brassfield, a law school grad. Hart and Brassfield spoke with CNN's Kiran Chetry on "American Morning's" about their feelings on Obama and clarified some of their statements from the town hall.

Kiran Chetry: Velma, when you said you were getting tired of defending the president, it's exhausting. Have you lost faith in the president? Or do you think it's simply the circumstances we're in that he doesn't necessarily have control of.

Velma Hart: It is absolutely the latter. But I don't know that he doesn't have control of it. I still have great faith in this president. I think that he is an amazing leader. I think he is inspirational.

Kiran Chetry: Ted, you asked whether or not you thought the "American Dream" was still attainable. Why did you choose that question? I know that you had a lot on your mind. You had a lot that you discussed among your friends. Why did you ask about the "American Dream?"

Ted Brassfield: Well, it's a real problem that a lot of us who have advanced degrees - and people who are going to college, maybe they don't know why they went to college. But we are facing massive student loans. The entire generation is just often facing six figures even when you go to public universities. And you have people like me who had good jobs but went back to school. Society says if you work hard, if you go to school, we will have good jobs for you. And that's why it's - you're willing to take on a massive amount of debt. And it seems like that's been lost. And it's really hurting a lot of my cohort.

Kiran Chetry: Did you get the answer you were looking for from the president or any more clarity on it?

Ted Brassfield: I think that unfortunately I felt that the president answered very effectively all of the other questions he was asked by the audience. But like Velma, I thought that I had given him a lay-up to say this is why you should still have hope. And he didn't say that. He didn't answer it at all.

Kiran Chetry: Well, Velma, you said you're exhausted defending him. What do people who have criticisms of the president that talk to you say? What are their biggest beefs?

Velma Hart: That he's all talk and no action, which I absolutely disagree with. I think the health care reform bill is action. I think the student loan legislation is action. I think there are - even, you know, like it or hate it, even the financial reform is action. So I don't get that argument. And I - and I get pretty passionate about it. I can't tell you I stand on top of tables and, you know, bang my head against the wall, but I believe in him. And I - you know, there's something about what he communicates that makes me believe that he's got a plan. I just - I’m tired of having debate - I think this is a moment of poker or something for me, maybe blackjack or 21. I want to have a card on the table that shuts the discussion and I don't have that yet.

Obama will be seen as a savior within a few years once the economy picks up steam and regular people can find jobs, spend money and relax a bit. Americans want to admire their President and it won't be any different with Obama, but first he must shed the Bush curse!

I'll give Obama a thumbs up! It has taken him only 18 months to get as hated as Bush did in 8!

Nothing he has done is sustainable!

Roosevelt gave us hundreds of Hydro Electric dams that are today producing cheap clean energy! What has Obama done that will get us through the next Century? NOTHING! A few hundred Solar panels and a few Windmills..... we need tens of thousands of each! Cover the Plain states with windmills and the sun states with solar panels and transmission lines to get it to the people! Then he will have done something! Then he can pay for his free stuff to the poor and his Union cronies.....

Something productive is what we conservatives are looking for! Not stand in a line hand outs the Left so dearly want!

How many times did the Left say yes to Bush the his last two years? The first 12 months of BO he could pass about anything he wanted, they could have locked all the doors and only giving keys to the Left and we couldn't have done a darn thing about it! He had more trouble trying to convince his own side than Bush ever did! A little reminder you had the majority for the first 12months in both the House and Senate! We had latrine duty!

Two years ago we stood back and said here you go boys if you think you can do better have at it! And where has that gotten us? And you want us to be stupid like your guys and just say yes to everything the Messiah says...... Sometimes be careful for what you ask for! You might just get it! A Community Organizer! Or better know in these parts "The guy who sets up the Block party!" This guy couldn't managed a Mini Mart on a Sunday.........

why did this womans response elicit a great big wide smile by Obama and then a watered down answer about yada yada yada 401 K ,house price collapse ect . ect. This President grossed over 5 million in 2009 alone first year in office because of investments. The Presidents investment counselors do not guess with their money or rely on trends ,they control the markets so they control the profits. think of it this way, they personally do not lose money ,unlike the rest of us ,lady.

No matter who the sitting president is…In order for legislation to pass there has to be more “Yes” votes than “No” votes.

We are a society of wanting results right away. The most frustrating thing is that many of the things that President Obama has done will probably be viewed in history books as great, but sadly many lack the vision to look into the future and see how these changes can be a positive thing for our country. I agree completely with @Oliverz it is really up to us and there is only so much that the president can do. Like many have said we are coming out of the biggest hole since the great depression and we want to see fixes in a year. It took us about 6-8 years to get ourselves into that whole, so we should have some patience in getting ourselves out of it.

      Absolutely correct.
There are far to many so called "patriots" or "great Americans" who would sell their souls to undermine Obama's administration. They are frightened of his potential for success which would leave them on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. They would prefer America to sink to a third world status than to accept Obama as a great leader who saved the country from greedy bankers and other money managers.

"results right away?" Well, when the American public was lied to & told that congress just HAD to pass the stimulus (pork-ulus) bill RIGHT AWAY or the sky would fall, and when we were told they just HAD to pass health care to "lower costs" (which is a total lie, even odumbo himself is backing away from that), and that we needed to cover all people (and then we find out millions of people will still not be covered), and when you are told that unemployment won't go above 8% if they just pass this spending bill...

When you're told all thes LIES – it does get exhausting!!!

And now they wanna talk about spending MORE of OUR money???? We, the American people, need to tell the Gov "NO" – it is OUR money, NOT theirs!! The Gov has no money, we fund it – they work for us – or did you all forget this??

The big O only took 18 months to do what it took 8 years to do! What was that! Get hated by just about everyone!

The only way a Democrat can get elected is if we know nothing about him! Who was Carter before he was President? Who was Clinton before he was President and who was Obama?????? Only someone with no voting record can get elected on the Left because once he has a voting record we all know just which way they really swing! You can lie about your voting record........

I agree with you that Velma, even though articulate, she failed to say what's frustrating her...what she is defending Obama about. Is it the financial regulations..the healthcare bill passage..the student loans ..The media is running with what she said because they want this to be negative but from further interviews, she is on Obama's side. The media is going to intepret it otherwise. Gain, Obam cannot do it alone. A lot of dems are sitting on the side lines

First and foremost, all of us should be "learning" the contents of the Bible-.

Secondly, It's amazing that those who feel our current President isn't doing this or that to dig us out of the mess that he unselfishingly chose to dedicate his precious life to, start putting together your campaign. Hell, if these people with those amazing sugestions and ideas think (thought) they could mericulosly turn this situation around any faster than President Obama, why didn't they run for President? Ironically, we didn't witness this much "yakkity yak" when the former President dug us in a hole. What did we do, we reelected him for a second term. What's wrong with picture? To Ms. Hart, I don't recall President Obama asking any of us to DEFEND him on anything. This was purely your decision. What would you have said to someone in the President's position when you threw this remark at him? You'd probably quickly state in a defensive tone, "I didn't ask you to defend me, did I?" Unfortunately, the President is to much of a gentlemen to enterain this response, therefore I'll do it for him. Sure, you can have your opinion but not once has he asked one citizen to defend him or his agenda, but to rather have patience, and support his attempt to recover this great land of ours. Get a grip. In these perilous times that we live, do we honestly have the time to decide whether he's Muslim or Christian, purple or green, happy or sad, acting to hastily, moving to slowly. We need to wake up and seize this opportunity to unite in rebuilding this country instead of tearing it down; literally. We are our worst enemies. People get your three minutes of fame, move on and help boost the Economy the old fashion way, not through Larry King, Good Morning America, CNN Live, and the likes. If you didn't think he was the person to do the job, why in the #&!! did you vote him in. HYPROCRITES.

patience? But, but... the stimulus (pork-ulus) package just HAD to be rammed down the taxpayer's throats (errrr, passed) ASAP or this country was gonna collapse (the sky is falling). And the health care bill just HAD to get passed, because it was gonna lower everyone's costs, everyone would have health care, everyone's weight would drop & IQ would increase & the world would live in harmony. Now we find out our costs are gonna go up even MORE under this socialist-style health care debaucle, that there's STILL gonna be millions of people uninsured, and that everything he's said so far has been a LIE.

This guy is a FRAUD & he'll get his "come uppance" during the election!!

After reading so many of these comments I have to ask Obama supporters, how long do we give Obama to fix the economy? 2 years hasn't been enough, 4? What happens at the end of his term if we are still stuck in the same position? Are we to forget about that Hope and Change we were all promised? This man ran his entire campaign on Hope and Change and I can't understand why he would promise such things when, according to you, it's up to everyone to hold hands, preach peace, and give our money to the bum on the street, who will most likely use it for alcohol or drugs. If it's out of his hands what the heck was this election about????

Hope is still there, always will be. Change is happening, not fast enough for most, but a lot has been accomplished, despite the Republican opposition that is costing us billions of dollars and millions of jobs. They will sacrifice their own on their alter of greed to make their rich bosses richer.

Most people are realizing the "hope & change" rhetoric actually refers to "hoax and chains" – they were lied to about health care lowering costs (even Odumbo himself isn't spewing that lie any more). They were lied to regarding regarding job creation, they were lied to about EVERYTHING.

Aside from some leftists, most people need to realize that the President is not the King, and the Federal Gov is NOT "giving" us money. So when they say tax "cuts" like they are throwing some scraps to the peasants, Americans should be outraged. It's OUR money to begin with, the Gov isn't "giving" us anything!! So LESS taxes does NOT have to be "paid for" (another leftist talking point) – it's ALREADY paid for by our money. Force the Gov to NOT spend as much of our tax money, and it'll be "paid for."

Hey, Cleareye, Okay, friend, how much is this "Change" costing my grandchildren. We cannot continue to run trillion dollar deficits forever, and that is exactly what they are proposing. how many promisies has this president broken, huh? How about "No Earmarks" and how much of that stimulus bill was just that? (please tell me how using OUR TAX DOLLARS to teach African men how to clean their private parts helps our economy) He promised to if this stimulus was passed, unemployment would not go above 8 percent, look where we are now. He promised that the health care bill would reduce the deficit, that ain't happening, Contrary to what Obama wants to claim, Reagan inherited a MUCH worse economy than Obama, and unlike Obama, who got everything he wanted right away, Reagan had to wait months for his economic plan to be implemented, but once it was, it started to produce positive results. That is the difference that people are noticing. Reagan believed in the people, This guy beleives in the government. The people know how many trillions of Dollars these guys have spent and have seen no results. The positive things that have happened, the administration isn't getting credit for it because of all the negativity. And as far as the EVIL Republicans stopping his agenda, the first year of his presidency, he has absolute power to get anything passed that he wanted, BUT COULDN'T because the congress was actually hearing the uneasiness and anger in the voters. All I can say, is Just wait till November and see where this "Hope and Change" has gotten him and us

Yes, a lot has been accomplished, but what's been done does't seem to be the wishes of the American People- hense the opposition to the Health Care reform. What kind of real reform is it when we are taking money from Peter to pay Paul? Taking money from Veteran's affairs programs to fund this health care bill is disturbing, at least to me, one who values the sacrafices of our military men and woman. So many amendments have had to have been made to correct that mess of a bill which orginally didn't even accept tricare as "acceptable coverage". But the bill was jammed down the throats of Americans behind closed doors when it should have been openly discussed, debated, and correct PRIOR to becoming a bill. And as a full tiem working mother who has also chosen to go back to college, the LAST thing I want to do is to have to go through the government to obtain a student loan. What happened to giving the people options? Is there some good coming from this administration?? I'm trying hard to find it. Was Bush the greatest president ever? No. But where we appear to be headed is a personal dissapointment.
