'Contract With America' signers look at GOP pledge

Bill Paxon and Susan Molinari watched with keen and sentimental interest as House Republicans unveiled their campaign blueprint this week, "Pledge with America."

The husband and wife are former Republican members of Congress who played key roles in advancing the House Republicans' "Contract with America" in 1994. The congressional couple signed the contract, then, following a quick honeymoon, hit the campaign trail armed with the Contract, stumping for Republican candidates in 52 congressional districts in 30 states.

They remember a somewhat similiar political climate. "There was some unravelling of the Clinton mystique by 1994," Molinari said.

"Today there's this palpable concern in the country literally about the future of America," Paxon added.

That sounds about right. Wall Street, abetted by Congress, let the financial sector hose up the economy so bad that the Dems are blamed for the fiasco, but Republicans got kudos for fighting financial reform. Go figure. Seems to me a vote for a GOP majority in the House is a vote for Gridlock.

Too bad we werent actually a functioning democracy who wouldnt put up with these bs statements our so called representatives. Real change comes when the population simply wont take anymore one sided rule. Democrats vs republicans? We need to work together instead of just a trying to beat the others. The tea party is not the answer but it is one answer, one group of people saying theyve had enough and want change. The tea party has gained enough power that they should work with all groups to truly change this 'i win you lose' political environment. Tea party: demand of both sides that they work together and you can change america for the better. If the tea party just wants to win to put their people in power then they just continue the same political nonsense that we already have. Work together, win together.

If America was even thinking aboit changing for the better, she would have done so by now. But she just keeps getting uglier and uglier. Nothing like she used to be for sure. If you disagree, you're either too young to remember her or you really don't care about her any more.

They didn't follow thru on the last promise, what makes anyone think their gonna follow thru on this one. How about you repubs come up with a plan then tell us what it is and we the people will discuse it. I'm not talking about a general idea but a laid out plan with charts and facts like any real business plan. You guys should be able to get one of your wall st sponsors to help you with that.

The Republicans are at it again... pandering to emotion... nothing of substance... they have stalled, not acted, protected their own, lied, cheated and steered this country closer to extinction than ever before! And NOW they want to "protect" us? God save us all from soccer mom's, senior senators from Kentucky, and the idiotic, uneducated Tea Party wannabes! There is no doubt that people like these have been the downfall of all world powers through the ages. I wish I wasn't living to see this one. Land of the free, home of the brave, indeed! More like land of the slaves and home of the chicken sh***ts!
