iPhone app tracks settlement activity in Israel

Facts on the Ground uses various filters to display settlement activity in Israel.

Want to track settlement activity in the West Bank, Gaza or Golan Heights? There's an app for that.

Facts on the Ground is a free iPhone application that lets users track settlements in territory acquired by Israel in the 1967 Six Day War, according to the group behind it, Americans for Peace Now.

The map is organized in layers that show different kinds of data collected by the group, which describes itself as a "non-partisan" Zionist organization "working to achieve a comprehensive political settlement to the Arab-Israeli conflict."

By selecting a particular settlement, like Bracha, on the map, information such as date of establishment (1983) and settlement type (ideological) appear in a pop-up blurb alongside other data. Users can also click on a series of layers and overlays to display borders, Israeli municipal jurisdictions and Palestinian residential areas.

what about the lands in india, afghanistan else where, these lands belongs to the buddhist, hindus, jains and sikhs, Islam will not follow family planning, harmony, tolerance, etc, and the non-muslims had to compromise for their misdeeds. Israel did the right think screwing the arab world, it is occupied agreed, what about the lands in Pakistan, India it was all of the hindus and you guys took it away, Islam will multiply faster, and we Jews, Christans, hindus, Jains and other folks had to compromise, return the lands to the hindus in Bangladesh guys took it away, it took place in 1947, israel was created in 1948, you need to return all the lands to took away before 1948, then we can think of giving you back gaza and west bank, otherwise the fight should go on, would like to see a humaliting defeat of the arab world, and removing the terror network from Africa to Indonesia. Need to destroy all the mosque and the kabba, they teach hatred and nothing else.

It is my understanding that many of the Settlement homes are owned by Americans who are counting upon the US government reimbursing them to give the home up. Most are unoccupied – at least they were when I visited earlier this year.

Doesnt matter who was there first. It matters who is there now. Israel is there. No nation on Earth occupies the same borders now that they did 500 years ago. Its called being conquered and guess what Palestinians. you are a conqered people. Learn to accept it because its impossible to remove Israel

Its just an indefensible fact that Israel is building illegal settlements on land that is not theirs. Its a slow motion invasion. All that garbage about God gave them the land. You should be ashamed of yourself. You stole the Palestinian land, you block building permits for non-jewish people and demolish their homes. Palestinian refugees were forced out of their homes that they lived in for generations and cannot return.
If Palestinians tried to build settlements on land that WAS theirs, but is now called the state of Israel, they would be shot. You have long ago lost whatever moral compass you might have had.
In prewar Europe, one of the first steps of the holocaust was the German laws gradually taking away their citizenship, ability to own land, etc.
Now you are doing it to the Palestinians. What's next? If they (try to) live in Israel, will they have to wear a yellow crescent sewn on their clothing?

Lovely how CNN spins this story and calls it "acquired" land instead of captured or occupied. By International standards this is occupied territory specially when it was captured during WAR not peace. Bravo CNN Bravo!

Land "occupied" from which state, country? Acquired in a war started by who? Lost by who?

Good thought. An app that tracks the number of people killed from each side of the internationally recognized border (pre 1967), and by whom. It could overlay the settlement app to see if there is an effect of the territorial seizures.
Phosphorus bombs are not considered "peace missiles".

there should be an app that tracks how many american tax payer dollars go to israel and then the app should compare how the dollars going to israel would be better used if they were kept here in america. its funny how our politicians can't accomplish a dam thing in congress or the senate, they can't agree on anything to try and improve this country, but they don't hesistate in bending over for israel. I will give the israelis credit, they have our politicians by the balls. i wish we americans could control our politicians the way israel controls them.

Nice... I am sure that the Zionist expansionists in Israel and the US are cringing at this... widely available maps showing illegal activity by the idiots running the Israeli gov.. Information is oftentimes more powerful than arms. They have been getting away with this for years. It is time that the Israeli criminals backed by the US gov are called on the carpet and halt and reverse their military backed settlements. Those Israeli settlers are primarily US based or European based jews who are nuts mentally. They are like the far right wing of the republican party... they have a massive superiority complex and they are armed. Sooner or later the massive injustice of this situation will trigger something on the order of the holocaust.. and millions of people will die. The Israelis have nukes (we gave the nutjobs the bomb) and opposing forces are obtaining nukes. Sooner or later this situation will litererally blow up... And we ( the US ) have promoted the injustice.

Jews have been, are and will always be the roots of all evil, devil, satan. They never had, never have, and will never love none Jews. Jews were told not get near interest, and yet they falsely told themselves not to charge interest among themselves but non-Jews, not to shell their own blood but non-Jews. Abraham Lincoln once said: you can fool a certain people for a certain time, yet you're foolish to think that you can fool everybody all the time. Jews may control America, its Economy, its Media, even its laws but we shall see how long will it last. The Evil can promise short victories to win over the fools, for the Almighty is eternel Victory.

You mean the number of prisoners kept BY EACH SIDE? Sure.
The number of deaths BY EACH SIDE? Absolutely.
The hectors of land occupied BY EACH SIDE? Yes again
When America was expanding and moving into more and more Indian territory, the attacks by the Indians were considered criminal (terrorists in today's terms (your terms specifically)). Today that is looked at with some shame by most ethical Americans. Palestinians know that every day of occupation means more and more of the original inhabitants die.
You can call them what you want. Hitler originally gave moving speeches about being threatened by forces on all sides, and he was only trying to defend the German peoples from destruction, blah, blah, blah. If you're not careful, you'll be defending yourself until you occupy all of the mideast and have pushed the indigenous people out "for your own safety", or because "God said it was OK".
No matter what, you are occupying land and displacing the inhabitants. You are bringing in people from other countries and bestowing on them rights that the original inhabitants no longer enjoy. If they don't like it, they must be terrorists.
China moved into Tibet, and are moving ethnic Chinese into the country with the intent of changing the demographic makeup. Once the population goals are accomplished, they can appear shocked that the UN thinks they did something illegal. The Palestinians have no more right to complain than the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto did to start an uprising? Laws were in place there as well, so the Jews were breaking the law? You cannot have it both ways.
The pre-1967 borders were somewhat legitimate. Not completely, but its a compromise. Justice has to be given to the refugees. If the border has to be adjusted, there can be a LAND SWAP, not a LAND GRAB.
