UFOs eyed nukes, ex-Air Force personnel say

Seven former U.S. Air Force personnel gathered in Washington Monday to recount UFO sightings over nuclear weapons facilities in decades past – accounts that a UFO researcher says show extraterrestrial beings are interested in the world’s nuclear arms race and may be sending humans a message.

At a news conference at the National Press Club, the six former officers and one ex-enlisted man recalled either personal sightings or reports from subordinates and others of UFOs hovering over nuclear missile silos or nuclear weapons storage areas in the 1960s, '70s and '80s.

Three of the former Air Force officers – though they hadn’t seen the UFOs themselves - told reporters that UFOs hovering over silos around Montana’s Malmstrom Air Force Base in 1967 appeared to have temporarily deactivated some of the nuclear missiles.

Much of the testimony already has appeared in books, websites and elsewhere. But UFO researcher and author Robert Hastings, who organized the news conference, said the time has come for the U.S. government to acknowledge the UFO visits.

“I believe - these gentlemen believe - that this planet is being visited by beings from another world, who for whatever reason have taken an interest in the nuclear arms race which began at the end of World War II,” said Hastings, who added that more than 120 former military personnel have told him about UFOs visiting nuclear sites.

“Regarding the missile shutdown incidents, my opinion … is that whoever are aboard these craft are sending a signal to both Washington and Moscow, among others, that we are playing with fire – that the possession and threatened use of nuclear weapons potentially threatens the human race and the integrity of the planetary environment,” he said.

Former Air Force Capt. Robert Salas – who has written a book about the Montana incidents – said he was underground when a UFO hovered over his missile silo in March 1967, and therefore couldn’t see it. He said one of his guards above ground told him a red, glowing object about 30 feet in diameter was hovering just above the front gate of the facility, in an isolated area far from Malmstrom.

“And just as I [called my commander], our missiles began going into what’s called a no-go condition, or unlaunchable. Essentially, they were disabled while this object was still hovering over out site,” Salas said.

Salas and others said the military urged them at the time not to talk about the incidents.

Retired Col. Charles Halt recalled seeing UFOs over the woods near Royal Air Force Stations Bentwaters and Woodbridge in eastern England in December 1980. He and security personnel were investigating reports of strange lights just outside one of the bases.

“All through the forest was a bright glowing object,” he said Monday. “The best way I can describe it, it looked like an eye – with bright red, with a dark center. It appeared to be winking. It was shedding something like molten metal, was dripping off it.

“It silently moved through the trees, avoiding any contact, it bobbed up and down, and at one point it actually approached us. We tried to get closer. It receded out into the field, beyond the forest, and silently exploded into five white objects – gone. So we went out into the field looking for any evidence, because something had been apparently falling off it – and we find nothing,” he said.

He recalled subsequently seeing other objects in the sky, including one that stopped about 3,000 feet overhead and “sent down a concentrated beam at our feet.” No one was harmed.

“The best way I can equate it is sort of a laser beam. We stood there in awe. Was this a warning? Was this an attempt to communicate? Was this a weapon? Or just a probe?” he said.

At about the same time, he was hearing radio reports from base personnel that beams from some of the objects were “falling into or near the weapons storage area.”

In a staff meeting later, a general decided “it happened off base, so it’s a British affair,” Halt recalled. “In other words, they were loathe to get involved.”

The Air Force investigated UFOs from 1948 to 1969 under a program eventually called Project Blue Book. The service, on its website, says the project concluded that “no UFO reported, investigated, and evaluated by the Air Force has ever given any indication of threat to our national security.” It also says there has been "no evidence that sightings categorized as 'unidentified' are extraterrestrial vehicles."

Salas said the UFO phenomenon “is real, not imaginary.”

“There is current excessive secrecy in our government surrounding this phenomenon,” he said.

A reporter asked how many of the former military personnel subscribed to Hastings’ theory that the message of extraterrestrials is that humans should get rid of nuclear weapons, and how many of them believed that we should get rid of nukes. Of the seven, it appeared that only Salas raised his hand.

The truth will eventually be out there to all people. There are 100's of military and ex CIA and others who affirm the existence of ET's. These are just a few who had the bravery of setting aside ridicule and the name calling they will endure to tell the public the truth.

While I don't disbeleive other life is out in space, it a big place and to assume we're alone is dumb. I do believe that if another life is out there and can travel in space, they are way far more advance than the human race. We're still fighting war among ourselves and don't try to take care of each other. I would take one look and go away too.

ET's do not exist but I strongly believe UFO's do. Two of the greatest scientists during the 60's – 70's (can't remember names) got together and reviewed thousands of UFO sighting claims. Many were fake, many were explainable, but they focused on the ones that were collaborated by several respectable witnesses. During the course of their analysis they deemed that these unexplainable UFO's were demonic in nature due to the insane acceleration etc that can not be explained by physics. These scientists were not religious either, food for thought!

Well said Bob, But there is a thing called hope and it's worth holding on too. I think even an advance society has social problems unless they are part of a collective and think as one. That would be boring and if those type were to visit us I would be worried.

At the end of the video when Robert Hastings makes a political statement about nuclear weapons as a supposed "message" by the supposed UFOs makes me doubt the validity of his claims. If these events did happen, how could Hastings possibly understand what the visits mean? It may range from a measurement of how well we could counter an invasion to simply being a measurement of our evolution as a society.

My question: Why does it matter? If these ET's are so advanced we cannot even track them, then they can just come and take our lunch whenever they want to right? So why do we worry about them. I mean, our most sophisticated weapons can be shut down by a floating disk? We might as well keep fighting ourselves, because we stand no chance against ET's. Time to stop worrying about aliens and worry about Earth.

I have never heard any credible CIA person claim that ET is real. If they claim ET is real, they really need to come up with some physical evidence. After all these years and decades not a single person has shown any physical evidence. You have got to have some kind of proof other than making verbal statements.

Until today, there is absolutely no SCIENTIFIC evidence of any extra-terrestrials visiting earth.......PERIOD! As leading astrophysicist Stephen Hawkins has siad, even if they did visit most likely it will not be a happy encounter.

I am an extremely skeptical person and have always had a hard time buying into the UFO phenom. But, both of my teenage children saw the same UFO approx. two weeks apart. One at her school and the other hovering over our house. Believe me I know it sounds crazy, but both of my kids are very skeptical and analytical and are not given to fantasy. But I believe they saw something very large, hovering that is either secretly kept and used by our government or is from someplace else. Most scientists believe there is life elsewhere in the universe, it's a logical conclusion, the question is really if that life could or would visit earth. While I wouldn't and couldn't make any conclusions about this phenomenon, I have opened my mind to the possibility that life elsewhere in the universe is visiting earth for whatever reason.

How could they could fly halfway across the freaking galaxy, and not be able to figure out how to send us a message? They can see our media and know that a public display would be necessary say a super bowl or something? Hearsay? Well, considering the sheer size of the universe, the number of galaxies and solar systems in those galaxies, the most basic mathematical formula for probability (and common sense) says there is a good chance there are other life forms out there.

What is not known is how intelligent any of them are or where they are. Again, chances are some are intelligent.

To think otherwise, to think we are the only intelligent life forms in this vast universe is grossly arrogant at best.

Although I believe it is all real, the government would not disclose the truth as they fear it will create mass panic–and will have people question the existence of a GOD.
Seems like they tried to disclose after Rosewell and it created panic–forcing them to repeal their disclosure and blaming it on a weather balloon.

I disagree with the people who posted that discord and social turmoil should still haunt highly developed societies. Rather, I believe that the only way to ACHIEVE a highly developed society is by overcoming these social ills. Otherwise, you WILL destroy yourselves before you get to that point (thus the visitations by well-meaning aliens who want us to grow the heck up).

And to those who ask why they don't directly intervene: doing so would be worthless. It is only meaningful if we CHOOSE to change our ways, through our own free will. They can do what they can to guide us, but for the most part, they understand that it is better to not directly intervene. As they say, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

@Conor Murray: Thanks for the link! I encourage people to read Matthew Ward's post from 9/11/2010. It is right on point - especially what is said about the Christian religion. Let's put aside that stellar distances are unimaginably massive and untravelable. It would take some seriously advanced creatures to even detect we are around, let alone visit the planet. And even if some advanced life forms were to develop some means of efficient space travel, what possible interest would they have in us or our planet? Why would they waste the fuel and resources to visit a technologically inferior species? Why would they have any need or interest in nuclear weaponry? If they have conquered the colossal obstacle of efficient space travel, I'm fairly certain they've figured out nuclear fusion. It's the equivalent of us being interested in harnessing termite technology from Mars. It's completely absurd.

But alas, our Air Force officials believe that aliens have visited Earth and are interested in our nuclear weapons. It pains me to know that stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid people guard our country.

Oh, don't worry - like it or not, there definitely is a God. It's just not anything close to what mainstream Christianity has led billions of people to believe.

For one thing, the real God is not even offended by the fact that you don't believe in It. You are loved regardless, unconditionally, despite all your shortcomings, and there is no ritual you must perform to make yourself "worthy" of God's presence or love. Most churches will NOT tell you this truth.

In the distance we saw 3 large red round objects sitting on the ground in a clearing by cornfields. We decided that they must be farm machinery so we drove closer to get a better look. As we appoached the objects began to move towards us so, terrified, we drove away as fast as that car would go. Strange thing is, we never talked about the incident again.

I've rarely ever commented on these stupid Internet news article forums, but it baffles me to skim over all these stupid comments from people stating obvious things who really take the time out to write four paragraphs (with perfect grammar and punctuation, I might add) thinking that their thoughts and comments are so intelligible and unique that everyone reading is going to want to hear what they have to say. Nobody cares what stupid people have to say. Of course, there are the proportion of comments from those with above-average IQs (111-129) who state logical theories – but, again, nobody cares what you have to say. Fear of losing control of the oil based economy,(As ET technology can free us of being enslaved by energy costs with free energy).Fear of not controlling us via religions, facing expose of our true origins, belief systems will collapse and we are then individually responsible for our own enlightenment.Fear by war mongers not profiteering because our future purported enemy, the ET's, advocate peace, trying to warn us not to go nuclear or fear that we cannot win a war against a superior opponent especially one that does not want nor need to resort to conventional weapons against us.(A total waste again of your tax payers money used to create the reprehensible star wars technology) We have a part of it here, in West Australia, one of your bases where Australians have no say in what USA are doing on our land that we have guardianship over .Fear from the faceless, who have suppressed newly discovered ET technology from the world for their own designs, funded from siphoned billions( over 20) stolen from ignorant US taxpayers. They,( starting with the Majestic 12 and their clandestine army,) believe that they will never be held accountable. Its Fear that will cause them to ultimately relinquish hold over information, due to people like yourselves who seek the truth. Bring it on... Its Global and Viral, then it becomes critical mass. Physics is Universal as is God/Universal Source. It begins..

The fact that someone might think that the E.T's are trying to tell us we should "get rid of our nukes" is amusing. What if they're figuring out how to disable our technology for other extracurricular activities?

Why is is so hard to believe that a ET (if one were made the trip here) would not want to help us overcome a obstacle to true civilization, that they possiblely could have had to overcome themselves.

I mean Nuclear physic is one of the biggest double edged swords ever, since the break through discoveries of the nuke, tons of other energy solutions have come to the table... also many other discoveries into the workings of subatomic particles would never have been made without the nuclear break throughs. But because of them we now have the constant threat of global death.

My point is, it is not unreasonable to think that if there was infact an ET ship wandering around our Earth, that they would not try to help...... btw though im sure the comments about them wanting to take away our defenses are jokes, if a ET could travel LIGHtYEARS, across the many unknown perils of cross galaxy/solar system travel.... I am pretty sure that a Nuke would be like a dismantled gun.... with no bullets... made of paper, to them. Though personally i think it would be cool to get a tech refresh from a ET..... It would completely undermind our social fabric... there are to many people across the world with Weak faith in their beliefs that would cry blasphemy and start crusades..... Personally I would think it wierd if God expected Humans alone to fill the entire Universe... also I would find it intresting to see if another lifeform, would have similar beliefs.

      sorry for the tangent......

Neither, this is nothing new, it's been known through various contactees that was the case, these events happened and they were directly caused by UFOs as to whether there were occupants or they were drones is another story as well the possibility that they may be us in a mutate form from the future to warn us about the folly of nukes.
This is not the first Press Conference there was another in 2001 with over 500 credible wits.
see for video of that NPC conference.

@ alec: Nowhere in the bible does it say anything about atoms, electrons, protons, and neutrons. They must not exist.
Nowhere does the bible mention bacteria, it must not exist. Nowhere does the bible mention that there are galaxies beyond our own, they must not exist. The people who wrote your beloved book were not very advanced and there was much they didn't know. Just like you!

The guy says in his opinion that the UFOs are sending a message that we're playing with fire, etc. But first, this guy has no way of knowing what they're thinking. Personally, them shutting down nukes and shooting beams into our weapons facilities. I hope these guys have figured in the possibility of aggressive extraterrestrial life instead of just injecting their own opinions on nuclear proliferation.

The ET "visiting us" are entomologist and we are the subject of their investigation. Of course they want to know the purpose of such weapons a thing they can not understand yet. If they, as a result of their investigation, get convinced that we are dangerous bugs, maybe, decide to exterminate us.

Ive heard about a case in the former USSR that was actually the opposite from that happened here. From what the report said, their nukes were actually put in launch standby by a UFO hovering over the silos. This came from a defecting USSR general in the 80s If I recall correctly... Can u imagine the call to the Presidents redline? "Uh, if our nukes launch, it was the UFOs. Sorry!!"

    • Jeff

This is absolutely correct. People are too quick to associate UFO with something extraterrestrial, when in actuality it only means that it was not possible to identify an object that was flying. Same as ASAP...people equate that as do it immediately, right away, emergency etc....but it means as soon as possible....not necessarily immediately.
