UFOs eyed nukes, ex-Air Force personnel say

Seven former U.S. Air Force personnel gathered in Washington Monday to recount UFO sightings over nuclear weapons facilities in decades past – accounts that a UFO researcher says show extraterrestrial beings are interested in the world’s nuclear arms race and may be sending humans a message.

At a news conference at the National Press Club, the six former officers and one ex-enlisted man recalled either personal sightings or reports from subordinates and others of UFOs hovering over nuclear missile silos or nuclear weapons storage areas in the 1960s, '70s and '80s.

Three of the former Air Force officers – though they hadn’t seen the UFOs themselves - told reporters that UFOs hovering over silos around Montana’s Malmstrom Air Force Base in 1967 appeared to have temporarily deactivated some of the nuclear missiles.

Much of the testimony already has appeared in books, websites and elsewhere. But UFO researcher and author Robert Hastings, who organized the news conference, said the time has come for the U.S. government to acknowledge the UFO visits.

“I believe - these gentlemen believe - that this planet is being visited by beings from another world, who for whatever reason have taken an interest in the nuclear arms race which began at the end of World War II,” said Hastings, who added that more than 120 former military personnel have told him about UFOs visiting nuclear sites.

“Regarding the missile shutdown incidents, my opinion … is that whoever are aboard these craft are sending a signal to both Washington and Moscow, among others, that we are playing with fire – that the possession and threatened use of nuclear weapons potentially threatens the human race and the integrity of the planetary environment,” he said.

Former Air Force Capt. Robert Salas – who has written a book about the Montana incidents – said he was underground when a UFO hovered over his missile silo in March 1967, and therefore couldn’t see it. He said one of his guards above ground told him a red, glowing object about 30 feet in diameter was hovering just above the front gate of the facility, in an isolated area far from Malmstrom.

“And just as I [called my commander], our missiles began going into what’s called a no-go condition, or unlaunchable. Essentially, they were disabled while this object was still hovering over out site,” Salas said.

Salas and others said the military urged them at the time not to talk about the incidents.

Retired Col. Charles Halt recalled seeing UFOs over the woods near Royal Air Force Stations Bentwaters and Woodbridge in eastern England in December 1980. He and security personnel were investigating reports of strange lights just outside one of the bases.

“All through the forest was a bright glowing object,” he said Monday. “The best way I can describe it, it looked like an eye – with bright red, with a dark center. It appeared to be winking. It was shedding something like molten metal, was dripping off it.

“It silently moved through the trees, avoiding any contact, it bobbed up and down, and at one point it actually approached us. We tried to get closer. It receded out into the field, beyond the forest, and silently exploded into five white objects – gone. So we went out into the field looking for any evidence, because something had been apparently falling off it – and we find nothing,” he said.

He recalled subsequently seeing other objects in the sky, including one that stopped about 3,000 feet overhead and “sent down a concentrated beam at our feet.” No one was harmed.

“The best way I can equate it is sort of a laser beam. We stood there in awe. Was this a warning? Was this an attempt to communicate? Was this a weapon? Or just a probe?” he said.

At about the same time, he was hearing radio reports from base personnel that beams from some of the objects were “falling into or near the weapons storage area.”

In a staff meeting later, a general decided “it happened off base, so it’s a British affair,” Halt recalled. “In other words, they were loathe to get involved.”

The Air Force investigated UFOs from 1948 to 1969 under a program eventually called Project Blue Book. The service, on its website, says the project concluded that “no UFO reported, investigated, and evaluated by the Air Force has ever given any indication of threat to our national security.” It also says there has been "no evidence that sightings categorized as 'unidentified' are extraterrestrial vehicles."

Salas said the UFO phenomenon “is real, not imaginary.”

“There is current excessive secrecy in our government surrounding this phenomenon,” he said.

A reporter asked how many of the former military personnel subscribed to Hastings’ theory that the message of extraterrestrials is that humans should get rid of nuclear weapons, and how many of them believed that we should get rid of nukes. Of the seven, it appeared that only Salas raised his hand.

Men, we may have to worry. I think they're here for our women. You have seen the skinny pictures of ETs, 3 feet high, really ugly things ... They have seen our women and they have found heaven. If you think about it, the first UFO report was right around the first publication of Playboy ... Coincidence, I don't think so!

If they are here for our women, perhaps we can make a deal. They can have Nancy Pelosi, Rosie O'Donnel, Hillary, we can fix them up. We're talking win, win.

@thecomedian: There was a tabloid magazine a couple of years ago that had a great picture of dubya with an alien. You didn't see it?!

They didn't have to look around for these nuke sites? They knew just where they were? Obviously they they have gleaned intlel somehow. Time to keep a close eye on your neighbor or fellow office worker. Does your dog seem to know more than he's saying?

I saw an alien talking on a phone on time. I also saw one flying through the sky on a BMX bike.

A UFO does not an extraterrestrial spaceship make. I am certain the USSR also had various UFOs inspecting their silos and launch vehicles... most bearing the inscription (under steath composties and paint) "Made in the U.S.A"

This is ridiculous. There are no UFO's with aliens from the stars. Even if there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, there's no reason for that life to travel thousands of light years (which is beyond comprehension) to earth to hover over our primitive military bases and weapons systems. If they could do all of this, why would they need to be covert? Anything we have technologically would be as primitive to them as cavemen are to us, or more so. UFO believers are just as mislead and mistaken as those who believe in psychics, bigfoot, and crop-circles.

UFOs are from our own future herre on earth. Unidentified Flying Object doesn' mean it has to come from another planet, they come from another time. They are concerned with us, because we are thier predecessors.

They don't have to spend thousands of years traveling. Physics allows for all types of time-saving travel. Wormholes and accelerating close to the speed of light are just two. There are other real solutions. Relatively speaking, we don't have the mental capacity to fathom what might be possible. To the human race the lightbulb was an incredible and unbelievable invention less than 150 years ago. Got to keep an open mind...

HA HA yes this is funny? You think so hum. What if all the stories are true, no wait what if just 1 story is true. They are REAL, and my take on this is, YOUR MOST POWERFUL WEAPONS are of NO USE AGAINST UFO's (Aliens).
There are a lot of crazy people out there, but they ALL are not crazy.
If it is true, what if they have a similar mentality as us.
They are looking for resources to plunder, be it man or materials.
They might not be the friendly ETs. They do not appear to have offered to help us as of this time.

Will it be easier for aliens to fly in on 2012 because of the way the planets will be aligned? They must know something since they helped with that calendar and all.

This cat-and-mouse game between unexplained flying objects and the U.S government has been ongoing for decades. Remember the UFO flap over Washington DC in the 50's?
Whether or not they are extraterrestrial in origin is debatable, but the fact that something has occurred is not.

Anytime the U.S government pretends to not be concerned about unexplained objects in our airspace, you should take a second look. Think of all the paranoia that surrounds foreign policy, yet we are constantly brushing valid sightings aside as "paranoid".

Also, to claim that aliens aren't here because they "Would have made themselves known by now" or "are too good for our low-tech society"...

    Seriously.

Think about it from the inverse. If we had the ability to travel to distant worlds, how would we react at the discovery of intelligent primates?

Would we descend with a proud "Behold! Your new leaders"
Or would we study them scientifically in stealth as to preserve the natural law?

Hard to say, but there would be politics involved in such a situation, that they could never comprehend.

There was some nut on some Internet show last night saying that the ETs are going to show themselves next month (around 10/13). They were going to park their fancy crafts over some of our major cities. I want the ETs to understand something. I'm a farmer in Texas. I have mysteriously lost cattle every year, over the past 25 years. If I find out that you guys have mutilated or stolen my animals, I'm not going to be happy. So don't fly over my ranch. As far as us Texans are concerned, we also own the airspace over our farms. I'm looking to shoot and ask questions later.

Hey Peter,, I think the aliens stealing your cattle are the local ones from south of the border,, not from south of Jupiter.. look for a BBQ pit nearby,, you'll probably find some bones and empty BBQ bottles,, later buddy..

someone made a comment about the laws of physics apply to all within the universe. This has to be a fundamental fact. I for one, believe that travel at the speed of light with regular matter, is not possible. Only pure energy can travel that fast. The only way you can travel at the speed of light, is place an object manually first at one end of the universe, and then send it information at the speed of light to activate it. However, even at this rate, you only travel at the speed of light, which is slow compared the size of the universe. Thusly, unless you learn to fold space, or travel through a wormhole, your physical body will never travel at the speed of light.

You don't have to travel AT the speed of light to achieve time travel. You jsut need to get close. The closer you get the faster you travel. And, this is completely allowed by Physics. Scientists already have many methods and ideas for achieving this. It's old news. The closer you travel to the speed of light the faster you travel through time. Google it to learn more.

The laws of physics as we understand them today with our current scientific discoveries. Einstien turned the mechanistic world on it's head with his discovery E=MC(2 or squared). Everyone was sure that if we just looked for smaller and smaller elements we would find the tiniest thing that is the building block of matter. Turned out to be wrong. We don't know what we don't know.

Hey Cavemanguy,, well there's allways Mind travel, as what if the ships are powered by the mind, so you just think your going to a distant point, -and then there you are-.. that would explain the quick almost unnatural movement of some the ships seen by observers.. Dont discount that idea, as Christ said, all things are possible for those who believe.
