Seven former U.S. Air Force personnel gathered in Washington Monday to recount UFO sightings over nuclear weapons facilities in decades past – accounts that a UFO researcher says show extraterrestrial beings are interested in the world’s nuclear arms race and may be sending humans a message.
At a news conference at the National Press Club, the six former officers and one ex-enlisted man recalled either personal sightings or reports from subordinates and others of UFOs hovering over nuclear missile silos or nuclear weapons storage areas in the 1960s, '70s and '80s.
Three of the former Air Force officers – though they hadn’t seen the UFOs themselves - told reporters that UFOs hovering over silos around Montana’s Malmstrom Air Force Base in 1967 appeared to have temporarily deactivated some of the nuclear missiles.
Much of the testimony already has appeared in books, websites and elsewhere. But UFO researcher and author Robert Hastings, who organized the news conference, said the time has come for the U.S. government to acknowledge the UFO visits.
“I believe - these gentlemen believe - that this planet is being visited by beings from another world, who for whatever reason have taken an interest in the nuclear arms race which began at the end of World War II,” said Hastings, who added that more than 120 former military personnel have told him about UFOs visiting nuclear sites.
“Regarding the missile shutdown incidents, my opinion … is that whoever are aboard these craft are sending a signal to both Washington and Moscow, among others, that we are playing with fire – that the possession and threatened use of nuclear weapons potentially threatens the human race and the integrity of the planetary environment,” he said.
Former Air Force Capt. Robert Salas – who has written a book about the Montana incidents – said he was underground when a UFO hovered over his missile silo in March 1967, and therefore couldn’t see it. He said one of his guards above ground told him a red, glowing object about 30 feet in diameter was hovering just above the front gate of the facility, in an isolated area far from Malmstrom.
“And just as I [called my commander], our missiles began going into what’s called a no-go condition, or unlaunchable. Essentially, they were disabled while this object was still hovering over out site,” Salas said.
Salas and others said the military urged them at the time not to talk about the incidents.
Retired Col. Charles Halt recalled seeing UFOs over the woods near Royal Air Force Stations Bentwaters and Woodbridge in eastern England in December 1980. He and security personnel were investigating reports of strange lights just outside one of the bases.
“All through the forest was a bright glowing object,” he said Monday. “The best way I can describe it, it looked like an eye – with bright red, with a dark center. It appeared to be winking. It was shedding something like molten metal, was dripping off it.
“It silently moved through the trees, avoiding any contact, it bobbed up and down, and at one point it actually approached us. We tried to get closer. It receded out into the field, beyond the forest, and silently exploded into five white objects – gone. So we went out into the field looking for any evidence, because something had been apparently falling off it – and we find nothing,” he said.
He recalled subsequently seeing other objects in the sky, including one that stopped about 3,000 feet overhead and “sent down a concentrated beam at our feet.” No one was harmed.
“The best way I can equate it is sort of a laser beam. We stood there in awe. Was this a warning? Was this an attempt to communicate? Was this a weapon? Or just a probe?” he said.
At about the same time, he was hearing radio reports from base personnel that beams from some of the objects were “falling into or near the weapons storage area.”
In a staff meeting later, a general decided “it happened off base, so it’s a British affair,” Halt recalled. “In other words, they were loathe to get involved.”
The Air Force investigated UFOs from 1948 to 1969 under a program eventually called Project Blue Book. The service, on its website, says the project concluded that “no UFO reported, investigated, and evaluated by the Air Force has ever given any indication of threat to our national security.” It also says there has been "no evidence that sightings categorized as 'unidentified' are extraterrestrial vehicles."
Salas said the UFO phenomenon “is real, not imaginary.”
“There is current excessive secrecy in our government surrounding this phenomenon,” he said.
A reporter asked how many of the former military personnel subscribed to Hastings’ theory that the message of extraterrestrials is that humans should get rid of nuclear weapons, and how many of them believed that we should get rid of nukes. Of the seven, it appeared that only Salas raised his hand.
If there were life out there we would have found it by now.
Honestly? We've combed through .000000000001% of the universe. We would have found it by now? That was the lamest statement I've read yet.
Right! We already know everything there is to know.
Phil, you are clueless.
They have better travel, so they found us,,
I sure hope we find it soon 'cause I'm getting bored with all you people.
Budda-where did you read the monk story?
Drugs are bad,Mkay
Maybe Jesus is an alien and that's how he rose because he was beamed up!
Now, you're starting to get it!
I was a hybrid once.
Other civilizations must exist if all our scientific and technological knowledge so far is not an illussion. Its all comes down to logic and internal consistency. If you accept the big bang and the evolution theories then you must accept the possibility of ET's.
If UFO's are real, and if they are sending us a message, then one would hope any species intelligent enough to cross the vast distances of space would also be intelligent enough to present all of humanity with undeniable evidence of their existence, instead of tantalizing glimpses that are so easily discounted by the overwhelming majority that has never seen a UFO.
I think they have sent a lot of messages proving their existence. We just don't see it. We believe reality is only tangible and that which we cannot see therefore, cannot exist. Once our mentality changes, we'll be able to know so much more about our universe.
Sorry, but I have to agree with Howard. Why in the world would extra-terrestrial beings come to our planet and buzz around so secretly? It would be far more easy for them to get a message of "peace and hope" across if they were to simply land and extend a hand. The only reason someone does something "sneaky" is to avoid being caught....and if that is the case, then I have to question what these "aliens" are really doing here. If they ARE checking out our most powerful of weapons and seeing how easily they are deactivated....then let me just tell you this: We are in deep s**t.
It doesnt take a genius to figure out that these were man made stealth aircraft and government experiments conducted on government property. If you see lights flashing outside a police station its probably a cop car.
Believe it or not, this is real!
i rather read about the monk an his predictions..
Armymen getting high on dope and seeing things and they are in charge of nuclear weapons.
Not a very good sign at all.
You cant be serious. We drug test at the Dollar Tree, bro. The guys in charge of the nukes are among the most vetted people to serve in the military, psychologically, physically, and in every other way. I thank God we have people who are willing to push "the button" if they are called to. Thanks for putting your unwanted 2 cents in. Now go troll 4chan.
Yeah.... just imagine what they're up to over there in Afghanistan where all the heroin comes from!!!
if we get to the point of communicatien with an extraterrestrial intelligent alien civilizatin, we will probably be robots and humans are extinct or we are all stardust.
UFOs, just like Jesus and all the other fictional/mythical things out there, mysteriously stopped being seen when GOOD cell phone cameras were available on every phone and YouTube really got popular. Seriously, where are high-def videos of these UFOs, eh? We see high-def videos of people narrowly avoiding being hit by a bus every single day, yet not a single person can catch a sweet-looking UFO on their iPhone camera or D-SLR? Puh-lease.
When I had a 700ft long silent black triangle floating over my head, getting my phone out of my pocket was the LAST thing on my mind. While I totally understand why people make that argument, you cant know what goes through your head when your witnessing something that everything you have been taught tells you cant exist.. Yet there it is. It was until the thing suddenly zipped off at an impossible speed that I thought, "damn, should have got a picture o that". At least for me, I was afraid to take my eye away from it, even for a split second. I wanted to absorb every detail of it while I could, and I'm glad I did. Yea, I may not have a picture of it, but I have details of that thing burned into my memory that my crappy phone camera would have just displayed as a big black bur, useless to anyone including myself.
I had a B2 bomber fly very low over my head. It was a great sight however I just sat there in awe as it flew over. I had an I phone in my pocket. However no pic or video was taken. Sometimes the surprise of things doesn't allow for the quick picture or video. I was at awe of a human made plane. I couldn't even imagine if it was something I thought was alien.
Chef, actually there are some pretty good photos out there,, just be wary of the fake ones. Also do more research of the best sightings noted, like the one near St Louis, that the main witnesses are 4 seperate policemen. The other is the Hudson River series of events in 1984, and there are some night films of the UFO"S and was witnessed by hundreds of people. Also the UFO's are alos seen near nuclear power plants, like the one on the Hudson River at Indian Point.
later taters..
Jordan – When I read your response it gave me chills because I know exactly what you saw, I saw it too! Thankfully, my girlfriend was with me at the time and saw the same thing so I know I'm not crazy, lol! It was about 1:00 a.m. and we were both on the balcony of a cruise ship on its first maiden voyage to the Eastern Caribbean about 4 years ago in May of 2006 when it happened. We had just left the port of Puerto Rico and it is my belief that we were close to a tiny island off Puerto Rico called Vieques. I too had a very nice camera phone at the time, but you’re right when you witness something that was the size of about 1 or 2 football fields in size, literally move from the earth’s horizon or out of the sea (so far away couldn’t tell) and stop right in front of our ship basically next to our balcony for the most part the last thing on your mind is running to grab a camera phone or camera for that matter it just happened too quickly. It hovered about 50 yards from our ship and was maybe 50 yards above sea level. It was unbelievable, scary, awe inspiring and just plain shocking, words simply cannot explain what I saw, but it was clearly not made by humans. The grossly immense black triangular craft had very bright white flashing lights that seemed to strobe around it and after hovering next to the ship for about 10 seconds it shot forward, stopped, then backwards, stopped, then upwards – once again hesitated and shot off into space at literally light speed all while at the same time not making a sound!!! I too believed that there is intelligent life out there due to sheer probability, but until you actually see something of this magnitude first hand I can understand how it is difficult for people to believe. My GF and I were very hesitant to say anything to anyone, but it is my belief that the ships cameras had to catch this thing on camera considering it was right next to the damn ship! However, I can see how something like that may deter future travelers, lol. I’ll never forget it… Jordan, I’d love to hear more about your experience as I have scoured the net to see if other people saw what I saw, my e-mail is Cwill4eva@hotmail.com.
Someone needs to take a Whiz-Quiz and it sure isn't me...
Have you all ever thought if these "Aliens" or "UFOs" are capable of such advanced technology and high speed space travel, why would they be so terribly interested in observing our low tech civilization?
Our chicks are hotter than theirs.
the aliens must be gay if they are floating over a bunker fall of men lol
I most assuredly believe that there is life elsewhere in the universe, but I have a big problem with people who claim that such beings would come to our planet to kidnap rednecks and take a gander at some nuclear weapons. Are you kidding? Any civilization advanced enough to travel to our planet in the first place is not going to be interested in whatever weaponry we may have, nor are they going to kidnap trailer park rejects and torture them. Such an advanced civilization wouldn't come to look at bombs – that is as ridiculous a suggestion as someone stating that we would somehow care what weaponry some jungle tribe in Africa was using – they wouldn't be a threat to us, just as we would be no threat to an advanced civilization that trips over our little solar system.
@MikeyNYC...shhhh! do not comment about jungle tribes in Africa having inferior weaponry such as spears...that is RACIST and CNN would not approve of ur message as such...u cannot talk about spears as rudimentary weapons...that is very sophisticated weaponry for our US Bros. in Africa...so lay off the racist jargon!!!
I don't believe they are only interested in "observing" us – I think some of them may be interested in helping us. Far more advanced than we are, they have no need to come here other than to enlighten us and help us become a move advanced civilization.
UFO= Unidentified Flying Object. Not extra-terrestrial. These lights and flying objects can be everything from delusions to Haarp testing, foreign government ops, as well as secret projects of our star wars ops. Maybe even the possibility of the supernatural, but we can't say they are definite 100% extra-terrestrial. Code words always show up in the news for a reason. What we are allowed as a media source and what we are willing to expose will be part of whatever agenda we are aiming for. Let's get the comments rolling in for our next study. What people will actually believe.
Forget the wordplay and think of how big the universe is. The earth is less than an electron on the universal scale. Intelligent life can't exist on this planet alone!
You mean, intelligent life exists here?? Hmmm ...
