Seven former U.S. Air Force personnel gathered in Washington Monday to recount UFO sightings over nuclear weapons facilities in decades past – accounts that a UFO researcher says show extraterrestrial beings are interested in the world’s nuclear arms race and may be sending humans a message.
At a news conference at the National Press Club, the six former officers and one ex-enlisted man recalled either personal sightings or reports from subordinates and others of UFOs hovering over nuclear missile silos or nuclear weapons storage areas in the 1960s, '70s and '80s.
Three of the former Air Force officers – though they hadn’t seen the UFOs themselves - told reporters that UFOs hovering over silos around Montana’s Malmstrom Air Force Base in 1967 appeared to have temporarily deactivated some of the nuclear missiles.
Much of the testimony already has appeared in books, websites and elsewhere. But UFO researcher and author Robert Hastings, who organized the news conference, said the time has come for the U.S. government to acknowledge the UFO visits.
“I believe - these gentlemen believe - that this planet is being visited by beings from another world, who for whatever reason have taken an interest in the nuclear arms race which began at the end of World War II,” said Hastings, who added that more than 120 former military personnel have told him about UFOs visiting nuclear sites.
“Regarding the missile shutdown incidents, my opinion … is that whoever are aboard these craft are sending a signal to both Washington and Moscow, among others, that we are playing with fire – that the possession and threatened use of nuclear weapons potentially threatens the human race and the integrity of the planetary environment,” he said.
Former Air Force Capt. Robert Salas – who has written a book about the Montana incidents – said he was underground when a UFO hovered over his missile silo in March 1967, and therefore couldn’t see it. He said one of his guards above ground told him a red, glowing object about 30 feet in diameter was hovering just above the front gate of the facility, in an isolated area far from Malmstrom.
“And just as I [called my commander], our missiles began going into what’s called a no-go condition, or unlaunchable. Essentially, they were disabled while this object was still hovering over out site,” Salas said.
Salas and others said the military urged them at the time not to talk about the incidents.
Retired Col. Charles Halt recalled seeing UFOs over the woods near Royal Air Force Stations Bentwaters and Woodbridge in eastern England in December 1980. He and security personnel were investigating reports of strange lights just outside one of the bases.
“All through the forest was a bright glowing object,” he said Monday. “The best way I can describe it, it looked like an eye – with bright red, with a dark center. It appeared to be winking. It was shedding something like molten metal, was dripping off it.
“It silently moved through the trees, avoiding any contact, it bobbed up and down, and at one point it actually approached us. We tried to get closer. It receded out into the field, beyond the forest, and silently exploded into five white objects – gone. So we went out into the field looking for any evidence, because something had been apparently falling off it – and we find nothing,” he said.
He recalled subsequently seeing other objects in the sky, including one that stopped about 3,000 feet overhead and “sent down a concentrated beam at our feet.” No one was harmed.
“The best way I can equate it is sort of a laser beam. We stood there in awe. Was this a warning? Was this an attempt to communicate? Was this a weapon? Or just a probe?” he said.
At about the same time, he was hearing radio reports from base personnel that beams from some of the objects were “falling into or near the weapons storage area.”
In a staff meeting later, a general decided “it happened off base, so it’s a British affair,” Halt recalled. “In other words, they were loathe to get involved.”
The Air Force investigated UFOs from 1948 to 1969 under a program eventually called Project Blue Book. The service, on its website, says the project concluded that “no UFO reported, investigated, and evaluated by the Air Force has ever given any indication of threat to our national security.” It also says there has been "no evidence that sightings categorized as 'unidentified' are extraterrestrial vehicles."
Salas said the UFO phenomenon “is real, not imaginary.”
“There is current excessive secrecy in our government surrounding this phenomenon,” he said.
A reporter asked how many of the former military personnel subscribed to Hastings’ theory that the message of extraterrestrials is that humans should get rid of nuclear weapons, and how many of them believed that we should get rid of nukes. Of the seven, it appeared that only Salas raised his hand.
I think this is so funny! 1) no one has ever seen an "E.T.", just an unidentifyable aircraft. yes you claim to know how superior they are. They might not be superior at all, just figured out how to make a cool spaceship. they could be human time travelers. they could be anything... good or bad. no one would know! 2) those that have faith in "E.T." life somewhere out there, who have never seen such life) are the same ones who claim there's no God because we can't see Him. hypocrit! I dont know what these people saw. could have been anything! it doesnt matter! if an alien race wants us gone, it will probably happen. nothing we can do about it so why worry. i highly doubt there is any "alien" life out there. there is a lot of space out there with a lot of planets... but it is possible that we're it!
J,
You're absolutely right. Some of those flying those late model saucers may not even be from the same civilization that invented them. You could have the equivalent of a Galactic eBay service where you can purchase these things. If so, who knows what kind of creepy crawler is flying our skies?
Be afraid, be very afraid.
"It was shedding something like molten metal, was dripping off it"....I think the Col. was trippin'.....no seriously, I think it's the season or time of the year when this subject comes up.
I heard ET was based on a true story. if that's true maybe whoever is hovering around the nukes are trying to protcet us
this guy is full of nuculer waste
These "Aliens" were originally artificial beings and slaves of another civilization on earth who also created the Pyramids that is related to the myth of Atlantis. These slaves became independent and now have bases in the deep ocean. They are with us for thousands of years and have been involved in the UFO phenomenon. Ordinary people may not be able to understand this and so just totally deny the phenomenon...
wowzers!!!! well somebody need to come down here on earth from stopping us from blowing eachother up to kingdom come.......geesh Thank You Jesus Christ, now for all you non-believers out there, Athiest, whatcha gotta say about that!!!!!
UFO's and God all come from the same place. As soon as you can prove UFO's exist, you'll be able to prove God exists..
IT'S A BIRD! IT'S A PLANE! No, wait, it's just a cloud. Never mind.
i dont see what the big deal is even if there real, why would they wanna have anything to do with us were rude, power hungry, crule creatures. if i were them i would just stay away.maybe sit back and reassess the situation.
They just needed nuclear fuel to slingshot through time around the sun and take back a couple of humpback whales, that's all.
our galaxy which is large enough for trillions of beings is just on of million other galaxys that's why it makes very sense that other plants may be inhibited.
also civilizations that lived and vanished from the earth's surface may have built ships and traveled to other galaxys and lived thier ever since.
If there were extraterrestrials and were interested in sending a message to humans, why they choose a bunch of people here and there?
I don't believe the US has the secret technology to do anything except create tax laws and loopholes for rich prople. I do believe that UFO's exist and I believe that the US also believes in them and knows more about them than they are willing to reveal. If the US Government came out and said " Yep, folks, aliens are real and we know they're visiting us on a regular basis", could you imagine? There are are still people on this earth who would do just like they did when Orson Welles came out on the radio with War of The Worlds... People will panic, they will incite chaos and fear will make them dangerous to the saner folks. UFOs do exist. I have no doubt about that. I also believe the the die-hard Christian zealots are absolutely against the revelation that other life exists on other planets... and in fact, it may also be why the Government won't admit to the existence. Religion does, on a large part, in the US, keep the masses tame...
If you believe that we're the only intelligent life in the universe, than you give intelligence a bad name. We can't even fathom the absolute size of the universe itself, and people want to claim we're the only ones. ..... What happened to you guys? .. Did you fall on the concrete as a babay? .. Do you not understand just how big the universe is? .. Why on Earth would you think we're the only ones. The size of the universe speaks for itself, and to say we're the only form of intelligent life, is like, slapping ignorance in the face. Our Solar system along is a a "speck" in our galaxy. Wake up folks. You can keep your beliefs in God intact no matter how many civilizations we find, so quit worrying about the religious community going ape crap when we find life, it will still all be the same unless they prove otherwise.
Sounds to me like "The Day the Earth Stood Still," and not the crappy modern version.
Does this make any sense? If I base my theory from where humans are now and how we have progrssed using the theory of evolution, currently the life expectancy for humans, after 4 billions year of earths existance, is under 100 years. Let's say that in another 4 billion years, with the aid of regenerative organs and technology we can live to 200 years. Now, lets say that without the help of aliens, who assumimg already know how to travel through worm-holes and have decided to keep withholding their technology from us, we progress design and build a space ship that can travel at the speed of light. It would still take us over 200 years to travel from one side of just the milky-way to the other. Our galaxy is roughly 200,000 light years across.
Until we can build a ship that travels FASTER than the speed of light....beam ourselves to some other point along the space-time continium or travel via black or white holes...we'll be engulfed by our dying sun before we even get out of our solar system. That's if we don't blow ourselves up, get hit by a meteor, or whatever solar storm possiblity you can dream up happens first.
What this all means is that if ET is here and "watching" us.....they are so far beyond us they wouldn't even be able to share their technology. We wouldn't be able to survive the journey. We're really not a viable race to even share the technolgy with.
They watch us the same way we watch reality shows. We'll make great pets.
