UFOs eyed nukes, ex-Air Force personnel say

Seven former U.S. Air Force personnel gathered in Washington Monday to recount UFO sightings over nuclear weapons facilities in decades past – accounts that a UFO researcher says show extraterrestrial beings are interested in the world’s nuclear arms race and may be sending humans a message.

At a news conference at the National Press Club, the six former officers and one ex-enlisted man recalled either personal sightings or reports from subordinates and others of UFOs hovering over nuclear missile silos or nuclear weapons storage areas in the 1960s, '70s and '80s.

Three of the former Air Force officers – though they hadn’t seen the UFOs themselves - told reporters that UFOs hovering over silos around Montana’s Malmstrom Air Force Base in 1967 appeared to have temporarily deactivated some of the nuclear missiles.

Much of the testimony already has appeared in books, websites and elsewhere. But UFO researcher and author Robert Hastings, who organized the news conference, said the time has come for the U.S. government to acknowledge the UFO visits.

“I believe - these gentlemen believe - that this planet is being visited by beings from another world, who for whatever reason have taken an interest in the nuclear arms race which began at the end of World War II,” said Hastings, who added that more than 120 former military personnel have told him about UFOs visiting nuclear sites.

“Regarding the missile shutdown incidents, my opinion … is that whoever are aboard these craft are sending a signal to both Washington and Moscow, among others, that we are playing with fire – that the possession and threatened use of nuclear weapons potentially threatens the human race and the integrity of the planetary environment,” he said.

Former Air Force Capt. Robert Salas – who has written a book about the Montana incidents – said he was underground when a UFO hovered over his missile silo in March 1967, and therefore couldn’t see it. He said one of his guards above ground told him a red, glowing object about 30 feet in diameter was hovering just above the front gate of the facility, in an isolated area far from Malmstrom.

“And just as I [called my commander], our missiles began going into what’s called a no-go condition, or unlaunchable. Essentially, they were disabled while this object was still hovering over out site,” Salas said.

Salas and others said the military urged them at the time not to talk about the incidents.

Retired Col. Charles Halt recalled seeing UFOs over the woods near Royal Air Force Stations Bentwaters and Woodbridge in eastern England in December 1980. He and security personnel were investigating reports of strange lights just outside one of the bases.

“All through the forest was a bright glowing object,” he said Monday. “The best way I can describe it, it looked like an eye – with bright red, with a dark center. It appeared to be winking. It was shedding something like molten metal, was dripping off it.

“It silently moved through the trees, avoiding any contact, it bobbed up and down, and at one point it actually approached us. We tried to get closer. It receded out into the field, beyond the forest, and silently exploded into five white objects – gone. So we went out into the field looking for any evidence, because something had been apparently falling off it – and we find nothing,” he said.

He recalled subsequently seeing other objects in the sky, including one that stopped about 3,000 feet overhead and “sent down a concentrated beam at our feet.” No one was harmed.

“The best way I can equate it is sort of a laser beam. We stood there in awe. Was this a warning? Was this an attempt to communicate? Was this a weapon? Or just a probe?” he said.

At about the same time, he was hearing radio reports from base personnel that beams from some of the objects were “falling into or near the weapons storage area.”

In a staff meeting later, a general decided “it happened off base, so it’s a British affair,” Halt recalled. “In other words, they were loathe to get involved.”

The Air Force investigated UFOs from 1948 to 1969 under a program eventually called Project Blue Book. The service, on its website, says the project concluded that “no UFO reported, investigated, and evaluated by the Air Force has ever given any indication of threat to our national security.” It also says there has been "no evidence that sightings categorized as 'unidentified' are extraterrestrial vehicles."

Salas said the UFO phenomenon “is real, not imaginary.”

“There is current excessive secrecy in our government surrounding this phenomenon,” he said.

A reporter asked how many of the former military personnel subscribed to Hastings’ theory that the message of extraterrestrials is that humans should get rid of nuclear weapons, and how many of them believed that we should get rid of nukes. Of the seven, it appeared that only Salas raised his hand.

These beings are shutting down nuclear weapons of all the super powers. To me that proves that they are friendly. Since they are coming in peace, I will greet them in peace.

yep, I'm all too familiar with those long boring patrol nights back in my army days. In my case, we had reported sightings of scantily dressed ghosts in the shape of women that would harass the perimeter guards. As hard as I tried, I never manage to see one or get close for better inspection. it probably helped that I stayed away from medicinal alcohol those days.

My UFO experience in 1962 was tepid water in comparison. The first National Press Club briefing was held TEN years ago. Google Steven Greer, MD, and the Barcelona Summit. Warning, the YouTube video is over an hour long. It's great to see this in the NEWS again. Wake Up fellow citizens! Tell you elected reps it's time to acknowledge the Disclosure Project of Y2K and tell your electorate everything in your silly 'secret' files! We are not alone; we are not Alpha Males; make peace dummies.

funny thing: if an alien got a snapshot of the cultural balance of the planet they would see: that the world is predominantly muslim, so we should talk to them first. then, the owners of the big nukes are white euro-christians, so we should wipe them out. steve hawkins was right: we should avoid first contact. look what happened to the native americans when then white man showed up...

Care to elaborate Bud ? Also, to those saying that they're here to get chicks, how come Megan Fox hasn't been kidnapped ? Think about it, if you were to travel this far wouldn't you go after the hottest chicks ? We'd see raids on 8's, 9's and 10's not some 'trailer reject' with no teeth and probable STD issues.

What baffles me, is why do all these UFO's have lights? Wouldn't that be primitive technology to them? They always seem to go to military bases, which makes these sound like reconnaissance missions. Even us mere humans know that the object of a recon mission is to gather info WITHOUT being seen. You would think that a specie so far technologically ahead would have figured this out. And if they have the technology to travel at light speed or have figured out how to live long enough to travel across galaxies, wouldn't they also have some sort of invisible camouflage or cloaking ability to prevent them from being seen? I don't doubt the existence of ET life. What I do doubt is that the primitive human race is interesting or threatening enough for them to come visit. And if they have visited, I doubt we have ever seen them.

So they don't crash into each other when they pull instant 90 degree turns while traveling at Mach 6, obviusly.

Seriously, good question. Maybe it's a by product of their propulsion system? But not all of them have lights...
The better question is why can we see them at all? An see them we have.. As well demonstrated by Renaissance paintings depicting UFOs casually placed in the background sky...

Maybe it's their way of showing, we come in peace. What would you find more threatening? A shadowy figure stalking you in the dark, or the UFO equivalent of a flashy clown with a disco ball on its head? It's like saying "We are here, don't shoot, we know how humans are easily scared into grabbing their guns". The unknown makes us afraid.

@ Tuut, or how about just not being seen at all. I think we would feel the least threatened by something we didn't even know was there. I bet if they came in a clown car, with Richard Simmons as the driver, blasting John Lennon songs, a vast majority of people would still feel threatened or just want to blow them up. I think they would be smart enough to not even appear as "shadowy figures stalking you in the dark" and not be visible at all. Which also answers "chisp"s question as to why there hasn't been a rise in mobile phone camera footage of UFOs.

Wow, you people have a lot to learn. Obviously they're totally real, just the logical thought of intelligent life existing in, the infinite universe as far as we know, would be silly to think otherwise.
To those who ask, "Why us? How'd they find us in all this galaxy..." Think about it, with their technology they may have discovered our planet by scanning, traces of certain chemicals, or who knows. They've been here before, a LONG time ago, back when the Egyptians were around. You really think the Egyptians built those pyramids with just chisels and mallets? AHAHAHAHA... And if you ask well where are the alien tools then? Think of this, a construction crew builds a house, do they leave their tools behind for the owner or do they pack them up and take them with them?

And someone asking about "why do they have lights? Where's their cloaking?" Who knows?! I know from studying cases and stories, the lights seem to be a source of their energy, a source of their electromagnetism/anti-gravity capabilities. Maybe they can't "cover" their lights otherwise they'll fall? And why cloak when you can speed past at 7,000 miles per hour or faster?

So many theories, but this I know, they're real. They've been here, they are here... and our government is slowly desensitizing all of you lol. It's about time you open your eyes and pay attention!

@ Violet, I'm not sure if you meant to respond to my comment on note, but I think we all agreed that: 1. ETs do exist 2. The have possibly visited. Our discussion was based on the idea that humans have seen/interacted with them. I have also read the possible theories about the pyramids, one being the assistance of aliens. But honestly, I don't think the pyramids are beyond the capabilities of man. If you've ever read about the Kemetians, you will see that they one of the most intelligent civilaztions not only of their time, but in human history. They had a vast knowledge of physics, astrology, and even created the basic theological ideas that define many of todays religions. What can be done with infinite man power, centuries of labor, and great knowledge, can be very amazing (ie. Pyramids).

If they are aliens the idea is they are unmanned scientific craft sent to other planets to gather data. If you are sending a probe to another planet and have no idea if there was life or not you wouldn't probably worry about the lights issue.

To your question about the bright light is this, there power source expels so much magnetic energy that it creates the light and to your question of not hiding them self is like me asking you to hide while observing contest, sorry they are millions of years more advanced and for the most part most of them don't care.

I'm not sure if Aligns exist, but if they are trying to send us a mesage why don't they show themselves. The message would be a lot clearer this way. If they have the technology to get here there is nothing we humans could do to harm them. So why not show yourselfs. I know if us earthlings were able to find life somewhere we would surely be on front stage. We would also probably take everything they had, screw up their life. I doubt we would help them

To me, that's kind of like asking the question, "Why don't we learn to speak ant"? You see an ant pile, you might walk up to it, investigate it, see that it poses no threat to your survival and leave it alone......or totally obliterate it. Why would you waste time trying to communicate with a species so beneath you. They have nothing you want and they don't pose a threat to your civilization. If ETs have come to Earth, I'm sure it was just out of curiosity of that bright blue marble in space. I doubt they would ever see the need or usefulness of interacting with us.

I believe there are aliens out there. I just think some of these eyewitness accounts are complete bull. If there are UFO's, why aren't we seeing an increased number in recent years? I don't know about you, but everyone is carrying a camera on them now, cameras are on almost every single device, and with a push of a button you can start recording. There should be a rise in the number of sightings, but there hasn't.

It's become increasingly apparent that there are only 2 outcomes to the entire UFO/ET phenomenon based on the Governments handling of all things UFO related.

Either ET exists, and they are withholding information to protect the masses from themselves, or they want people to believe that they exist.

I don't know which is more disturbing.
