Iran unveils squadrons of flying boats
Iran's Defense Ministry released photos of what it says are its new radar-evading flying boats, the Bavar 2.
Iran unveiled three squadrons of new flying boats on Tuesday, Iranian news agencies reported.
The craft, dubbed the Bavar 2, is armed with a machine gun and carries surveillance cameras, according to a report from the Iranian Student News Agency.
"Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the few countries which managed to design, build and use flying boats in a short time," said Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, who oversaw the delivering of the aircraft at the Bandar Abbas naval facility on the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz.
The delivery comes as Iran celebrates its Week of Sacred Defense, which commemorates its eight-year-long resistance to the 1980 Iraqi invasion, according to the Fars News Agency.
The flying boats look like one Iran used during Persian Gulf war games in April 2006. Media reports from the time include a video of a flying boat taking off.
After those 2006 reports, bloggers poked fun at Iran’s so-called stealth technology, saying the flying boat looked like something anyone could buy in kit form from mechanical magazine ads.

Hmmm.... so they can travel on water, under surveillance radar, then take to the air for an aerial strike? Interesting. Not wholly practical, but interesting. What would be even more interesting is if they can develop a submersible aircraft carrier. Seal the flight deck and slip beneath the water, then resurface within a comfortable distance, lift the planes to the deck and let loose the dogs of war. By the time the naval response is even organized, the carrier slips back beneath the waves and waits.

Now come on this is serious. If the Iranians build enough of these they could use up all the blue paint available. This is a serious threat. Not sure if a F-16 or F-22 could engage a target as slow moving as this. Thats it, The Iranians are deploying the turtle and rabbit philosophy. We are flying so fast that we will never see them, Iran's version of a stealth fighter. I told you those Iranians were smart. This is a major set back for the US.

I am Iranian. I must say that most of the comments I read here are ignorant. To begin with let's establish one fact: I care as much for the Islamic establishment in Iran as a cow would care for a steak dinner. That said, I can not ignore the fact that most of the comments here are only written to make your selves feel good about the US military power. There is no question whether the US can defeat Iran in a military confrontation. The question is whether Iran, or any other country for that matter, has the right to defend herself? They do, just as much as the US has the right to build it's military and protect it's interests. The interests Iran is trying to protect is Iran, not another country which can supply it's energy needs.
I wonder which is more detrimental to US interests, Iran building a flying boat or Israel building on Arab land? One is of no concern to the US military, the other is giving reason to terrorists to do their dirty deed, hence a huge concern to the US military personnel in the area.

Stolen land? Try land lost by Jordan, Syria, and Egypt after they invaded Isreal. None of those Arab countries thought the West Bank, the Golan Heights, or Gaza was part of Palestinians BEFORE they lost it. It was Jordanian, Syrian, and Egyptian land then but now everyone claims it is Palestine.
