Iran unveils squadrons of flying boats

Iran's Defense Ministry released photos of what it says are its new radar-evading flying boats, the Bavar 2.

Iran unveiled three squadrons of new flying boats on Tuesday, Iranian news agencies reported.

The craft, dubbed the Bavar 2, is armed with a machine gun and carries surveillance cameras, according to a report from the Iranian Student News Agency.

"Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the few countries which managed to design, build and use flying boats in a short time," said Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, who oversaw the delivering of the aircraft at the Bandar Abbas naval facility on the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz.

The delivery comes as Iran celebrates its Week of Sacred Defense, which commemorates its eight-year-long resistance to the 1980 Iraqi invasion, according to the Fars News Agency.

The flying boats look like one Iran used during Persian Gulf war games in April 2006. Media reports from the time include a video of a flying boat taking off.

After those 2006 reports, bloggers poked fun at Iran’s so-called stealth technology, saying the flying boat looked like something anyone could buy in kit form from mechanical magazine ads.

Hey Iran, pretty cool! We probably could have just sold you the same junk we had left over from WWII

Our Israeli bosses with our money and our extremely intelligent and lethal arms, would wipe out these poor and naive Iranians and their most phony flying machines.

These planes which takeoff and land on water is suited for search and rescue missions and patrolling Iran's huge coastline on the south (The Persian Gulf) and its northern coastline (The Caspian Sea). It is not a waste of money.

Im not sure if the commanding officer of the aegis will be able to stop laughing long enough to shoot it down. One thing.. they do look like nice planes.. lots of private seaplane rated pilots here would love to have one- Not sure it it will make a good plane for warfare.. but.. it is single engine- maintenance should be cheap- private pilot with seaplane rating should be able to fly it.. this thing could sell very well here.. .. Still... is this what the great Islamic Repulic calls a weapon?

Iran flew one of these high tech machines into Iraq a few weeks ago and it was reported that the aircraft was brought down when it collided with a Frisbee thrown by one of two soldiers on weekend pass at the beach.

I want one! Iran could make more by selling these in Wal-Mart than by having my Brother in Law's F-18 blow it to pieces...

A second or third hand Cessna floatplane carries more, flies faster, flies higher, flies further and probably makes less noise.

Wood catches fire from lasers rather quickly. Micro waves damage these things rather quickly. And the heat from the engine is easy to track. The design reminds me of Command Conquer the RTS video game or a design from Russia back in WW II.
