Iran unveils squadrons of flying boats

Iran's Defense Ministry released photos of what it says are its new radar-evading flying boats, the Bavar 2.

Iran unveiled three squadrons of new flying boats on Tuesday, Iranian news agencies reported.

The craft, dubbed the Bavar 2, is armed with a machine gun and carries surveillance cameras, according to a report from the Iranian Student News Agency.

"Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the few countries which managed to design, build and use flying boats in a short time," said Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, who oversaw the delivering of the aircraft at the Bandar Abbas naval facility on the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz.

The delivery comes as Iran celebrates its Week of Sacred Defense, which commemorates its eight-year-long resistance to the 1980 Iraqi invasion, according to the Fars News Agency.

The flying boats look like one Iran used during Persian Gulf war games in April 2006. Media reports from the time include a video of a flying boat taking off.

After those 2006 reports, bloggers poked fun at Iran’s so-called stealth technology, saying the flying boat looked like something anyone could buy in kit form from mechanical magazine ads.

Those flying boats are way cool! You all laugh, but I wish I had one.Seriously, this shows some real innovation and a capability we don't have. (Never mind that they would be sitting ducks against an Apache).

The boat's ... ???... plane's ... uhhh errr .... whatever it is... the propeller on the thing is multi-purposed. 1) To catch dinner... 2) Allows the pilot to tip his head back and end it all when he realizes he has 200 pound blue eyed 6'4 " boy from Kentucky flying up his keaster with a real plane...

US just invade to the defenceless and weak countries. She doesn’t have any stomach to even threaten Iran. A so called super power with her puppets from almost 60 different countries can’t defeat dozens of Iraqi and Afghanis fighters how can invade to the brave nation of Iran. As late Khomeini said, US can’t do any damn thing to us. Viva Iran!

When the US, China or UK develops a military technology, they try their best to keep it under wraps and are disinformed as UFOs. When North Korea, Iran or the former USSR develops such technologies, they make sure they let the world know even though sometimes they turned out to be plywood.

....and in related news today the USA was forced to put their greatest minds together to come up with a defense for these new high tech boat weapons from Iran. After weeks of brainstorming one of our brightest minds (Dennis The Menace) came up with the most cost effective weapon that could get the job done very effectively. It's called the "SLINGSHOT". This new "slingshot" was able to knock 10 out of 10 exact duplicates of these boats out of the sky on the first day of testing. The defense contract was awarded to a company named Whammo...for an astounding $47.99 to mass produce the "slingshot".
    Don't mess with the U.S.!

It's actually a fleet of new comuter planes for use between Miami and the Bahamas. No more having to hassle with airports in south Florida. The machine guns carry a surcharge and are available should you decice to enjoy some target practice between islands. I really think they should come in more colors. Hard to spot the blue from the Coast Guard helicopters looking for you when you run out of fuel. Only has a range of 50 miles on a good day. They may belong to Iran but I bet the parts carry "Made in China" stickers on them.

Looks like they stripped down some of the WMB sold to them by Gates, Rumsfeld and Ollie North, welded some Piper cub wings to them and painted them.
