Iran unveils squadrons of flying boats

Iran's Defense Ministry released photos of what it says are its new radar-evading flying boats, the Bavar 2.

Iran unveiled three squadrons of new flying boats on Tuesday, Iranian news agencies reported.

The craft, dubbed the Bavar 2, is armed with a machine gun and carries surveillance cameras, according to a report from the Iranian Student News Agency.

"Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the few countries which managed to design, build and use flying boats in a short time," said Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, who oversaw the delivering of the aircraft at the Bandar Abbas naval facility on the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz.

The delivery comes as Iran celebrates its Week of Sacred Defense, which commemorates its eight-year-long resistance to the 1980 Iraqi invasion, according to the Fars News Agency.

The flying boats look like one Iran used during Persian Gulf war games in April 2006. Media reports from the time include a video of a flying boat taking off.

After those 2006 reports, bloggers poked fun at Iran’s so-called stealth technology, saying the flying boat looked like something anyone could buy in kit form from mechanical magazine ads.

We just rode these at Disneyland they have a stick and you pull it and it goes up and you push it down and it goes down. But first you have to get your Pilots License at the Snack bar. The kids love them!

It would be a shame for a F-16 trainer to take a closer look an wipe out the whole squadron with its tail wind.

I think they are cute for water skiing, but when an F-22 spots them there will be no water sking due to debris in the water.

What's next, sharks with "lazer beams" attached to their frickin' heads? They flying boats (or what we Canadians like to call a Glider) might be stealth to radar... But they are not stealth from the whales! The whales will have them for lunch!

Anyone remember wrath was done to a modern US destroyer by a am pjep of terrorists in a bass boat? Now picture 50 of there things equipped as hydroplaning drones packed with HE. Two or three hit near the same spot say near the power plant of a carrier? Look what Mcveigh did with a single van of low tech stuff! Or what could happen if they had a few "hijacked" by extremist groups and you get the picture?

I don't think Iran would use this kind of weapon against US forces – but they could drop several squadrons of these vehicles into Iraq and walk right into baghdad...once the rest of US forces leave in the next X months...

uproar. What a weird world we live in!

Our great spies have stolen secrets from the West to create this powerful new weapon. Our great scientists have combined the top secret designs from Orville Wright with information from the March 1974 edition of Popular Mechanics to design this terrifying weapon of destruction. Western armies are scattering in mortal terror. Those who have not fleed have taken their own lives.
