A suspected gunman fired shots inside a library at the University of Texas at Austin on Tuesday morning before shooting himself, university spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon told CNN.
The gunman died, Weldon said. No one else was hurt.
On its Facebook page, the university police said they were searching for a possible second suspect.
Weldon said it was not known whether that second suspect was armed.
Students and others on campus were advised to remain indoors with their doors locked.
What's the update with the 2nd shooter still at large?
What's up CNN? I know if it had been in the North East, it would've been front page news. Sheezz...
My son graduated from U.T. It brought back terrible memories of the Tower shooting! I was across the street at an old movie theatre, when it started. Used to work at Uncle John'S Pancake House at the end of the drag. Chaos Mega. thank God all the students are O.K.
I just hope that all of my friends at UT are safe.
Apparently there is a shooter who is terrorizing the UT campus so you better hide your kids, hide your wife and hide your husbands.
Check on FOXNEWS.com , its all french info
I know there's a lot of criticism here for CNN not making this story a huge priority right now, but I'm going to have to be honest: I'm absolutely fine with that. The majority of the time, people carry out these rampages because they are seeking attention, and somewhere in their screwed logic, they think the best route is to storm a local university with a firearm, and kill some people.
As far as I'm concerned, the less front page attention we give these people, the less appealing these "Going out in a blaze of glory" rampages become.
So are you suggesting that people wait to know about their families/children until after the fact? I understand what you are saying about the gunman and attention, but don't you think you'd want to know if your family is safe?
This has happened at UT before- shooting on campus, etc., etc. What's up with this school? They get crushed by UCLA in football and people go nutty?
I want to read about landslides.
Here we go. Now gun advocates will push for guns on campus ðŸ™
CNN and other news agencies shouldn't give up the top story to just any story as trivial as a college shooting. Afterall, Lindsay Lohan might put something up her nose or, for fox news, Sara Palin might fart.
epic fail on your part cnn. epic. fail. your austin correspondent needs to be fired stat.
Hang in there Cara, we love you are praying for you!...Dad
@ Rick Shore,
The system does work that well. It sends a text message, an email, and it also send a robo call. There are also sirens that go off on campus to alert people to urgent situations.
Time to start going to Fox News! They even have a link to the local news website.
I hope in the mean time, everyone stays safe.
This is not as bad as 1966 thank goodness. It is sad but this is not the first time at UT.
