Obama takes economic road show to Iowa, Virginia

President Barack Obama tried to assure skeptical questioners Wednesday that the future for America is bright despite high unemployment as the nation slowly recovers from economic recession.

At the first of two town hall-style meetings in two states, Obama heard concerns from families in Des Moines about people out of work, health insurance reform, the cost of war, and allowing taxes on the wealthy to return to higher levels.

Beneath towering trees in the back yard of a suburban home, Obama acknowledged that times were tough but insisted conditions were improving and that the nation - especially its young people - would see better days ahead.

"I do want everybody to feel encouraged about our future," Obama said to applause at the end of the hour-long event, adding: "We've been through tougher times before, and we're going to get through these times."

President Obama attempts to fix the economy is consistent with what he said he would do. Think of the choices we had – A Republican attempt to privatize social security – Exactly what Jed Bush did with Florida civil servants retirement. [Florida had the best state retirement system in the U.S.] Thank goodness it came to a choice and those who continued with the old system were in very much better shape than those who opt for investing in the Stock Market. Could you image what would have happened to social security funds if the Republican’s privatized social security prior to the stock market crash? Jed Bush privatized the Florida Department of Corrections personnel system and it could never properly get off the ground and employees were frightened when their social security numbers went out of country. He made a choice to appoint a Republican supporter for secretary of the Florida Department of Corrections who everyone knew was crooked to begin with. In addition, prior to that he appointed a Secretary of Corrections from Texas who bragged on making the Department of Corrections run like Wal-Mart (he finally replaced him with Jimmy Crosby). I was a Jed Bush supporter prior to that mess – can you imagine what a mess he would make as president (which he wants to run for). Now President Obama is trying to straighten out the mess that President Bush and the Republicans put us in and it is a hard task that will take years to fix. Let’s give him those years as who else have we got to choose Palin, McCain or Jed Bush.

I concur, let's give President Obama enough to implement efficencies, correct and/or upgrade policies that bear no fruit for the working class. The backbone of America!

OBAMA IS ALWAYS A BETtER CHOICE THAN TEA-PARTY REPUBS. They assert that the Founding fathers specified that THE US is a Christian nation. GLEN beck states that our country will always be Christian and when we pray on our knees, we must show our children. MY MOTHER IS JEWISH. JEWS NEVER PRAY ON THEIR KNEES- JEWS PRAY STANDING UP. LET'S DITCH THESE UNHOLY REPUBS, BEFORE THEY PUT MY MOTHER INTO A CONCENTRATION CAMP-WHERE NAZIS KILLED HER GRANDPARENTS! -thanks Rita

Good grief, Rita! You must be just chug-a-lugging the Radical Progressive Koolade. Only the Obama Progressive movement is turning their back on the Jews. The American people are firmly behind Israel!

    According to the tea-bagged:

    – We're losing more and more of our rights everday

    – we've been taxed out the wazoo by Obama

    – economy has gotten worse

    – Obama is a socialist who was not born in the US

    – the sun revolves around our flat earth

Basically, the teabagged are as psycho as they come and are merely acting out buyer's remorse from their Bush vote (twice).

Hey teabagged, have you heard the latest that will surely have you frightened? I hear that there are gay Mexican terrorists already crossing the border.

Five absurd comments out of six. Just amazing how stup and oblivious to reality you people are.
In 2005 Barney Franks and Christopher Dodd insisted poor people be given morgages. Those morgages known as Sub Prime loans were made to thousands and thousands of people who could not afford to buy a house.
Those two vote buying democrat hell bound people insisted a law be passed that forced bad home loans be made. Franks and Dodd are responsible for our economic collapse.
Now if you liberal democrat people want to continue with your lying, denial of the truth while blaming republicans and insulting Tea Party people then this country is not worth anything.
If the greatest country on the planet is worthless, then the planet is worthless. And you made it so.

Jim, The republicans made this mess, can we agree on that? Of course we can they tried to run our country into the ground, now that we finally have someone with enough intelligence to get us out of this fix. Some of you still run around and act like you have a memory block. And lets all tell the truth we are coming out slowly but surely. It did not take a few years for us to get into such a horrible state so why do you think President Obama should be able to fix this mess in a few years. You are either part of the problem or part of the solution, but you can't be both. So make up your mind!

Audit the real "economic road show" aka The (as in NOT your) Federal Reserve, whom through their policies cause economies to fail and be "revived". It really is just a show.

phil. I agree. You are absolutely correct. Our Federal Reserve has been converted into a political weapon. Used by the president to gain votes.
It causes the average person to invest his/her life savings in a manipulated arena that eventually will plunge downward to it's original numbers or worse, well below.
This is dangerous to all Americans and in the end our country becomes owned by the Chinese and Arabs. Who, behind closed doors, are laughing at our president's selfish destructive pathetic stupid behavior. Why?
Because they are defeating us by purchasing our country with our own money.
We must cut spending. We must maintain tax cuts for the yearly 250 thousand and over earners. We must ride this out and allow the suffering that comes with it. You can not use other people's money to sustain and upgrade the poor. They must earn a wage and become new taxpayers.
It is the way our country is designed.
Freedom is earned in many ways. You don't fix this problem by turning to socialism. That's absurd!
