North Korea unveils rare photo of Kim Jong Il's son

Kim Jong Un, bottom left, and his father, bottom right center, are seen with the rest of the Workers Party of Korea's central military commission.

North Korea's state news agency has released the first photo of Kim Jong Il's youngest son since he was named vice chairman of the Workers Party of Korea's central military commission.

Little is known about Kim Jong Un. Only two photos of him consistently circulate in news reports outside of North Korea because he's been kept off the radar by the North.

Kim Jong Un, who is widely expected to be the successor to North Korea's "Dear Leader," was also named to the Central Committee of the party. Earlier, during the WPK  conference, the younger Kim became a four-star general, according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

This photo was taken with the entire body and new leaders of the WPK at Kumsusan Memorial Palace, Pyongyang reported.

The Workers Party of Korea last convened its delegates more than four decades ago.

Unfettered power leads to insanity as you see in North Korea. Unfettered markets leads to economic and social stagnation as you see in the USA. Look to Germany or Canada as countries that are employing managed capitalism in an effective fashion. In fact, you could also look to the USA in the period following WWII through to about 1970 as an example of well managed capitalism.

Comparing Kim Jong Il's "unfettered power" to the USA's markets is quite a stretch. But don't be overly concerned, if government control of markets in the US continues on the path it's on, very soon you won't want to check into a US hospital. Just like Canada and Germany.

@jim; Canadian here, not sure what you're implying but our medical system is doing just fine, as are our banks, and our real-estate markets.

@ RJS – Visited Germany in May. I asked one of my coworkers what their income tax rate is. After much justification as to the virtues of their taxation level and benefits gained – he finally coughed up a number: 45% to 55% depending on a number of variables. YOW!

I dont get why you say people dont want to check into canadian health systems. Just because we dont place people with alot of money in the front, doesnt make it a bad system. When our whole nation is covered and not being screwed over just because they dont make 100k+ plus.. i call that a good system. Im glad ihave the health care i have, much rather have it then the american system

@Mark That includes Health coverage. If I were to factor in my Health Insurance, which by the way for small business is astronomical, our family tax would be about 65%.

Suffice to say, our family can't afford Health Insurance. Just for basic coverage, with high deductibles with a family of four we are looking at $1200.00 a month. And that is for the crappy insurance.

also @jim: Like Canadians, Germans are also doing just fine with our entire health-care system. I pay $250 a month for insurance that covers EVERYTHING, including dental. Doctors and hospitals are numerous, well-trained and courteous! It's good to be an expat from the US over here; it's nice to experience what the US could have been like without its rabid fear of sooooocialism... boo!

    • Wrong Choice...

I chose to migrate to the US and my sister chose Germany...after 35 years I wish I had chosen Germany too...these insurance companies are stealing all of my money and I get crapy coverage...each day i talk with my sister and she tells me all the medical benefits she and her family gets...this capitalism BS in insuring people is screwed up...no one should be allowed to profit from others illness...

sydcinema: Great comment. How about Kim Jong Un first job in their military begins at the rank of a four star? Nice jump in base pay. Sadly, they will discover a reason that most services begin their officers at a junior level O1 for a reason. You grow, learn and mature before obtaining the General rank of O10. They have lost the race before the starting gate even opens.

Kim Jong Un looks like a clone of his old man. He's probably just as nutty, so we'll have to deal with the same kind of belligerent dictator for the next 30 years or so.

Don't forget that Kim Jong Un has lived in the outside world for a number of years and knows that North Korean propaganda is a bunch of crap. Therefore, he's probably less likely to do the crazy stuff his father does. But there's no accounting for faulty DNA that may kick in and send him totally gonzo.

Kim Jong II sits on second from right and his son sits on far left in front. It doesn't look like they are close together. His son probably wishes his dad is dead so he can take over and be different from his dicatorship ways or it will be same over again. Just like Saddam Hussien and his two crazy murderous sons.
