U.S. apologizes for infecting Guatemalans with STDs in 1940s

The United States apologized Friday for a 1946-1948 research study that purposely infected people in Guatemala with sexually transmitted diseases.

A statement by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius called the action "reprehensible."

"We deeply regret that it happened, and we apologize to all the individuals who were affected by such abhorrent research practices," the joint statement said. "The conduct exhibited during the study does not represent the values of the United States, or our commitment to human dignity and great respect for the people of Guatemala."

Guatemalan officials are aware of the report but will not comment on it until later Friday, presidential spokesman Ronaldo Robles told CNN.

- CNN's Nick Valencia contributed to this report.

Also it is absurd to apologize for anything other than farting when your soldiers are being ordered to kill other human beings!
So people who are obviously inacapable of understanding logic better not ever apologize, especially for something 70 God dam years ago.
Apologize publicly for something again you Obama Administration idiots. I dare you!!
You are a conducting a war, do you want to apologize for killing people? You just did!! You morons!!! Unless you believe administering STDs is worse than killing other human beings.
NOTHING IS!!! That does not mean we should not be in Afghanistan fighting, either. It just means quit playing mind games with our soldiers Hillary, Kathy and Mr. President. Do you think they are stupid?
They are thinking just what I stated. Questioning their jobs now.

One latin country held eLections and the new President passed laws regarding banana plantations. His people were poor, while one US corp. was getting rich off of the bananas. One wealthy American didn't like these new laws because it meant his banana business wouldn't be as profitable. So he sent in the troops. in short order a puppet regime was installed that allowed the banana business profits to go back to wealthy foreigners. that man was Dwight D. Eisenhower. The Afghan gov. passed laws that would not allow foreigners to build oil pipelines thru Afghanistan. One wealthy American didn't like this because it would hamper his Carlyle Group's plans to profit from the proposed pipelines to China. So he sent in the trooops. In short order a puppet regime was installed that would allow the pipelines. That man was George W. Bush. These examples are endless and cross generations, and can easily be seen for what they are. (unless yer blind)

Did they do a study afterwards to see how many more people were infected by those people in these so called tests?

phil. There is a flaw withyour comparison. The latin country did not have terrorist training camps used for carrying out an attack (without a declaration of war) with passenger jets on the United States.
As far as the oil pipelines, Afghanistan needed them. So what we are suppose to have the Russians put them there?

Jim. You mean "aledged attacks" on 9/11. binLaden hasn't even been indicted let alone convicted. This is the USA where you are innocent until proven guilty. And Afghanistan did not need pipelines running thru to service China. And yes, Russia did invade Afghanistan for the same reason: pipeline route to China. but "somebody" hired binLaden to oust the Russians. Who was that Jim? The story made worlwide headlines when it was revealed. We aren't occupying Afghanistan to protectthe USA. Rather to protect the Carlyle Group's profits from oil sales to China..

Quiz: how many members of the binLaden family have been Carlyle Group members, and can you name any former gov. officials who have been members?

Of course they became infected. The AIDS virus isn't just transmitted during intercourse. All of an AIDS carriers bodily fluids contain live viruses. Sweat, tears, vomit, even earwax has blood in it. Back when the epidemic first broke out, the Surgeon General C. Evrett Koop's study showed that wearing a condom does nothing to prevent the spreading of AIDS. His replacement then went on national TV recommending we use condoms to help prevent AIDS. It's still the worst epidemic ever, and if it keeps spreading at the current pace, within 50 years everyone will have it.

phil. You have returned to your pathetic way of reasoning. The fact that the United States trained Bin Laden to fight does not make it right to blame ourselves. People have choices. Bin Laden chose to committ a horrific cowardly attack which killed many innocent people, including many children.
Bill Clinton had the chance to have Bin Laden shot in the head years earlier. He said, No, the children will see it.
The words of another weak stupid scoundrel selfish democrat president who will burn in Hell. The Clinton Foundation not good enough. His last act, he named it after himself. Then there's murder.
But the question now is (since we have the same type of president again) will Obama be going to Hell?
So far, the answer is yes.

p.s. Or is it called The Clinton Initiative. I know it's Clinton something.
Years from now after the truth is told which usually happens after people are dead. But the big mouthed waiting to speak always protected Chelsea may start spewing denials using her inherited most likely stolen money in defense, yuck! The Clinton name will hopefully be removed from most everywhere.
