Afghanistan bans 8 private security firms
Afghanistan has banned eight private security firms, including the company formerly known as Blackwater, a spokesman for President Hamid Karzai told reporters Sunday.
Among the companies whose operations are being dissolved are Xe (formerly known as Blackwater), NCL, FHI, White Eagles and other small companies, spokesman Waheed Omer said. Both international and domestic companies were affected.
Weapons and ammunition belonging to these companies has been seized, he said.
Xe has several operations in Afghanistan, some of which will not be immediately affected by the decision. While Xe's transportation and highway security operations have stopped, it will continue to offer security for embassies.
"Until we have Afghan security forces up and running, private security companies will continue to operate and serve in training and protection of foreign embassies," Omer said.
Of the eight companies named during the press conference, some have already disbanded, while others are in the process of doing so, Omer said.
Before Sunday's announcement, there were 52 registered private security companies in Afghanistan, half of them international, according to the interior ministry. Now there are 44 private security companies operating in the country.

Maybe we could hire them to guard our domestic water supplies. It's a no-brainer how easy it would be for "the terrorosts" to poison them.

I wish Karzai were dead. He fixes elections. He is a greedy two faced SOB. Responsive for the deaths and injuries to numerous American soldiers because of his failure to choose sides. How's that? He did not build an Army because they would have to fight the Taliban.
Now he is kicking out security firms. But what is totally unacceptable behavior is the fact he is taking all their weapons. Why?
Because the Taliban can use them. The Afghani Army doesn't need weapons. The only group involved in the fight who need weapons are the Taliban.
Karzai needs a shot to head and one to the heart. After he is tortured (real torture, the Mao type) for hours and hours so he tells us everything he has done to cause our defeat.

Security personnel are only there to protect property, people, and information from getting into the wrong hands. Those same personnel shouldn't be killing innocent people while performing those tasks. I thought that it would be a matter of time before those violating companies would be shown the door.

As far as "phil keep it real on all fronts" question about Cheney/Haliburton is concerned: Congress appropriated 87.5 billion dollars, at first, for the rebuilding of Iraq. Haliburton recieving the lion's share. Iraq still isn't rebuilt, but Haliburton has refurbished Caspian Basin oilwells. And since Afghanistan was subdued, this oil has been flowing to China via US pipelines in Afghanistan. Though tax dollars finance this entire operation, neither tax-payers nor Afghanis share in the profits. So now YOU investigate and find out whom has been profiting.
