N.C. Republican calls gays 'fruitloops' in e-mail

Rep. Larry Brown is in hot water over a "fruitloops" e-mail.

A gay rights group is asking people to flood a North Carolina state representative's office with cereal after the Republican referred to gays as "queers" and "fruitloops" in an e-mail to other lawmakers.

Rep. Larry Brown, a Republican, was replying to an e-mail that state House Minority Leader Paul Stam sent to members of his caucus. That message, dated September 27, discussed Democratic House Speaker Joe Hackney receiving an award from Equality NC, according to Hackney spokesman Bill Holmes.

The e-mail string, which Holmes provided to CNN, had about 60 recipients. Brown's response consisted of two sentences: "I hope all the queers are thrilled to see him [Hackney]. I'm sure there will be a couple of legislative fruitloops there in the audience."

Messages left at Brown's legislative office were not returned Thursday morning. The cell number listed on his official state page is not working, and a message sent to Brown's e-mail address was not returned.

Brown is running unopposed for re-election this year.

The e-mail was made public recently when Equality NC Executive Director Ian Palmquist received a copy of it. "I was pretty shocked to see a legislator using that language," Palmquist said.

"Rep. Brown needs to apologize, but we haven't received any contact from him, not a word. It's offensive, but I really don't think he reflects what most North Carolinians think about gay people."

Stam told News 14 North Carolina that Brown's language was inappropriate but that he was not "the speech police."

You can always tell it's election season when Republicans spew anit-gay messages and propose anti-gay legislation. Frankly, I am getting tired of hearing this crap from them as it is apparent that the Republican party lacks any merit or social conscience or intellegence that they resort to using gays as a scapegoat. The gay community can stop these bullyies by bullying back!!!! If you see a str8 wedding protest it by yelling out the window "why marry you most likely gonna get a divorce you freaks", on sundays yell into a church to remind the congregation "your preacher is a pedophile!!!", Spray paint over Republican election signs " BIGOT!". If they don't like it, then THEY need to start treating people who pay their salaries with respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The is a free country, thats a 2-way street, people can agree...or disagree with gay's, as far as the CNN poll, they didnt phrase the question correctly, it should have asked if you agree/disagree that gays should have the same rights as married people, its how marriage is defined, that most folks have issues with. Marriage as is defined now, can only be between a man and a woman..period..get over it. If its a civil union of some sort, the poll would change drastically. No one thats against gay marriage, wants to see gays try to change, the meaning of marriage, as defined in the bible. Thats the rub.

Ellen has the brains, power, talent and wit to make Larry Brown look like the fool he is. I hope she puts her talent to good use on this sick closet case.

I just call gay men sodomists. They can't argue that they have become inflamed with lust for the male anus. They prefer sodomy, that makes them sodomists. That goes for you "straight" people who immitate gay men when you are with your wives/girlfriends.

There is a possibility he is gay. And it doesn't say anywhere in the bible that being gay is wrong and you know it. If you are anti-gay it is bacause you are gay. That is in the bible.
