Michael Brewer, seen in March, says he is getting counseling for his anger.
Michael Brewer says the boys who set him on fire a year ago, "got what they deserved."
Brewer said he wished the three boys who poured alcohol on him and torched him with a lighter were "right here" so he could deal with them himself.
Brewer added he's getting counseling for his anger. His remarks came during a 16th birthday party thrown for Brewer by residents of a retirement facility near Fort Lauderdale.
The seniors befriended the teen after hearing about the incident which had Brewer fighting for his life.
The three boys who set Brewer on fire a year ago have been charged as adults and face attempted murder charges. All three remain in jail.
An apparent dispute over a bicycle and a music CD set off the events.

Anger management for being angry at 3 kids who LIT HIM on FIRE and almost KILLED HIM?
lolamerica, they may have killed you but calm downnn it's ok just ignore the big bad bullies and they'll go away, be calm everybody or we'll stick you in anger management
This young boy WENT THROUGH HELL,and he has been on my mind, and in my prayers since it happened!Anyone WOULD be angry after an unimagineable thing like that!and anybody who thinks this boy is "just not tough enough"or something,I would hope you NEVER expeirence ANYTHING like what this boy did.As fo You Michael~be proud you have come through and yes~get that counseling and I AGREE WITH YOU~the boys who did this were old enough to know right from wrong, and need SERIOUS jail time! Just do not let these guys ruin your life ANY FURTHER~forget them&their kind!Good Luck Son!
only in America does the victim need anger management 🙂 we sure are raising a nation of pansies and making being HUMAN a distant BAD thing to be, HUMANS are jealous, happy, angry, evil, etc etc,, we need to celebrate it,, anyone who thinks this boy needs anger management for his anger because he was set on fire, I have a challenge for you,, come over my place, I'll set you on fire, laugh at your stupidity and see whether you'll have anger issues afterwards, IF you survive!!! if you're angry it should be at yourself for being that STUPID to think that after such a horrible even this kid shouldnt be angry!! and YOU (the stupid one) had to learn it the hard way!!!
Anger management is a stupid statement to make this poor little boy went through hell how would u like to get burned up? we live in a country where criminals have better rights than decent people have. stupid statement.
I say forgive and forget
i am totally speechless!
He hasn't been ordered into "anger management." He is in counselling, and anger is one of his issues. It is one of the many manifestations of PTSD. Others are insomnia, phobias, panic attacks, avoidance of anything that triggers flashbacks... all of which can be disabling for life. Don't begrudge him his therapy. Rather, begrudge our society its violent video games, gruesome entertainment, culture of weak-beating, and ethos of voe victis. That is where these incidents come from.
I think your missing the point they are trying 2 help him deal with the anger by talking 2 someone this child needs help i dont think there telling him not 2 be angry but how 2 handle it so he doest harm hisself or other that have nothing 2 do with what happen 2 him. He should feel those that did such a horrible thing are getting what they deserve.
I feel bad for the young man that was burned, but I think they are being to harsh on the three boys who did it. We all make mistakes when we are young, their parents should ground them ect. and just leave it at that. After all "boys will be boys"
betty...to quote your husband "your" a callous moron. an army nurse and a fireman think it is childs play to set someone on fire...really?
Would you think that " boys will be boys" if it was your child that was lit on fire, and you had to witness the treatment he went through at a burn unit, skin graphs, pain management? Something tells me you wouldn't!
Morons are still alive and well. Your an idiot.
TROLLLLLLLLLLLL POSTING ON CNN! thought you oughta know.
Betty, how stupid can you be. Boys can be boys? Stupidest thing i've ever heard. Those boys deserve the death penalty for what they did to this poor man. I hope you have happened what this boy did, and then you tell me boys will be boys.
@betty you ever smelled burnt flesh? go to a burn unit watch a patient get their dressings changed. bnys will be boys? when the heck did torching another become the norm? if you think that this ok you need to see a counsler
i still cant believe this wow
@betty nothing else to say? please answer the questions and kim if you think you can be of help chime in
@tomcat I'm a retired ER nurse, I dare say I've seen more than you can imagine ( oh and before I became an ER nurse I spent 3yrs batching up our boys in nam). What have your life experiences been???? Sit behind a desk????
was that too graphic? how about two teens huffing gas in a storm drain that thought having a smoke would be cool. do you know what a rocky mt. oyster is? how about a turkey frie?
@betty 10 year firefighter and emt wanna play who saw worst?
@tomcat, just my 3 years at the 24th evacuation hospital I nam, would make your 10yrs as a firemen look like a cake walk. I had dozens of young men die while I sat next to them, helpless to do anymore for them. I have 40 years as a ER nurse so you see my dear I already know who saw worst. My husband has been a firemen for 38 years and can't stop laughing about "a 10yr fireman comparing his experiences to mine" he saids your just a "pup"
@betty after what you have seem it is ok to say oh well?
@Betty,
EVER BEEN ON FIRE?EVER WITNESS WHAT WE IN THE BUSINESS CALL A ROAST,DID YOU EVER HAVE TO CARRY A BURNT CHILD OUT OF A BURNING BUILDING? I CAN ANSURE YES TO ALL THE ABOVE,28 YEARS ON THE JOB,And I still remember the screams. So Betty, lets see you walk in Michaels shoes, better yet walk amungst the brotherhood of firefighters, then come back and tell us what you think............
