Burned boy: Attackers 'got what they deserved'

Michael Brewer, seen in March, says he is getting counseling for his anger.

Michael Brewer says the boys who set him on fire a year ago, "got what they deserved."

Brewer said he wished the three boys who poured alcohol on him and torched him with a lighter were "right here" so he could deal with them himself.

Brewer added he's getting counseling for his anger. His remarks came during a 16th birthday party thrown for Brewer by residents of a retirement facility near Fort Lauderdale.

The seniors befriended the teen after hearing about the incident which had Brewer fighting for his life.

The three boys who set Brewer on fire a year ago have been charged as adults and face attempted murder charges. All three remain in jail.

An apparent dispute over a bicycle and a music CD set off the events.

I've decided I don't want kids ever. It would amount to child abuse bringing someone up in this world. First they'd get set on fire and then some chain smoking alcoholic in a lawn chair would tell them to buck up. I certainly hope some of you people aren't breeding.

I think anger management counseling will be helpful to this boy. lf that happened to me, with no guidance and healing after the attack, l'd spend life in prison for murder.

Betty and her husband are pathetic. I should have relized this. No firefighter I know would give up against the red devil nor allow anyone to be its prey. They would give their own life first

Betty, I couldn't care less what you've been through. You are an ignorant person. Even your writing says so. I am so glad you are not my children's grandparents. I would NEVER leave them in your care!!!!!!!

The poor kid is traumatized and needs the counseling he is recieving. He is very young and anger can consume someone's life...along with fear, low self worth and many other things. Quit living in your past. It is not about you any more. We need to focus doing what is right. These boys knew that lighting someone on fire was an awful thing to do. They need to be punished and the victim is absolutely right for getting any counseling he needs!!!!!!

Your're one of those that if a child were to tell you they were molested, you said 'oh, get over it' and then invite the perp over for dinner. Quit living in a hole.

Tomcat is an obvious fake,"the red devil" what ex-firefeighter talks like this????? If Betty and her husband are who I think they are, then I personally know them and have work with her husband. They are good people, Betty would do anything to help a person in need and both have put their lives on the line countless times!!! Her only fault is she has seen more than anyone should. Myself, I think those boys should rot in jail, I also think a mad dog should be shot, Betty.......well she would do what she could to save the mad dog.

My guess would be these boys play violent video games while their parents watch prime-time tv soap opera. After being desensitized to the horror of people burning alive, the boys view it as an option. Ditto parents drawn to promiscuos tv programs...hence our high divorce rate.. They aren't called "programs" for nothing. They do program you ya know.

Betty, As a critical care nurse your statement as to boys will be boys is just the typical excuse that this country has given to bullying over and over and over. Your husband is absolutely right. You should not be posting on here. Your thought process and indignation of what criminal acts are is definitely very askewed. Setting someone on fire is not just criminal but criminally insane. Just because of what you witnessed in your career surely doesn't make you an expert on judicial matters, and what the criminals should be charged with and their sentences. In the America that I know and love these criminals would spend years behind bars for attempted murder and the many other myriad of charges that they face. Pleasant dreams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm really starting to dislike the 1st amendment right about now. I'm certain it wasn't intended to allow a mindless sociopath to infect society with their ideas.

Why are people acting surprised when the violence kids TAKE IN from mindless hours playing horrific video games featuring all sorts of fire and blood, comes BACK OUT?

lol at phil for trying to blame video games for the violence and despair of the world. If you think that after playing GTA long enough, kids would want to go out and steal cars, you are sadly mistaken.

Yeah, you are probaly right. Kids watching all that vilence with blood and guts flying all over the place is a healthy activity. Our kids are nicer to each other now because of all that time well spent pretenting like they are torching other kids in the game.

@8 Forgive and Forget? This boy was set on fire and burned over more than half of his body. You expect him or anyone to forget something like that let alone forgive? Don't make me laugh.

No doubt children's psycologists prescribe violent video games for of their theraputic value.
