On the scene: Chileans gather to watch rescue, history
Chileans are gathering in droves to watch rescue coverage.
In between cheers of celebration in the city plaza of Copiapo, Chile, on Tuesday night, you can hear a pin drop.
Thousands of Chileans have gathered in Copiapo, one of the closest city centers to the San Jose mine site, to witness a live feed of the rescue efforts of the 33 trapped miners.
An enormous projection screen was erected in the plaza. It switches between Chilean cable television outlets, all focused entirely on the mine rescue. Vendors sell Chilean flags and banners reading celebratory sentiments such as "Fuerza Mineros," or "strength to the miners."
Children run in front of the screen waving flags and signs, joining in the occasional chant.
Vendors are selling horns - reminiscent of the vuvuzela, and people are buying them up and going crazy whenever something happens.
Cheers erupt when news announcers read a list of the order of miners to be rescued. But at times, the only thing you can hear is the audio from the government video feed, showing workers making final connections to the rescue capsule.
Being here, it's hard not to occasionally stop and just watch along with the crowd - a crowd that seems to grow by the hour, gathering to watch a momentous event in the country's recent history. This story has grabbed the world's attention and held on tight.
Congratulation to Chile.
Every nation should learn from this.
Hate breeds hate!! I'm from the USA...I believe God is in control! Why can't we love one another we are all different in many ways. God bless these miners and the familys, rescue crew, the crowd standing and waiting all involved! May God bless each and everyone of you!

Thank you Lord! This current recovery reminds me of the rescue efforts of a then 18 month old "Baby Jessica" (McClure). Nearly 23 years ago to the date (October 14, 1987), she'd fallen into a well in her backyard.

How wonderful ! Couldnt control my emotions as i saw the first miner coming out.GOD BLESS THEM.Was touched by the fact that the Chilean President and first lady was there in the middle of the night to greet them.Congratulations to the families and especially to the little girl Esperanza(hope)for to be able to see her father for the first time.
Chilean people are so humble. I lived there for five years and found it to be the most beautiful place that I've ever been to.
Everyone should experience Chile and her people.
But the difference between the rich and the poor is extreme. I'm sure all those miners are poor and now they have a chance to sell their stories and make some money.
Its a historic rescue op in the miners' history. Being a Singaporean, I remembered clearly when we hosted Ms Universe in May 1987 , Ms. Chile Cecillia Bolocco was crowned for that year. Is she feeling for the miners of the ordeal rescue in San Jose Mine ,Capiapo.? I do and was emotional when Florencio Avalos came out at 11.10 am Spore Time.

To the miners – a warm welcome home, to the people of Chile – God bless you and your great nation, to the president of Chile – thank you for showing the world what leadership and compassion is in this time of world upheavals, to my countryman, the drillers who helped with the operation, Layne Christiansen Company in the United States, I salute you. Your science, expertise, determination and caring has given us American's something to be very proud about and moreso to remind all of us to keep hope alive.
