Obama: I believe homosexuality isn't a choice

President Obama said Thursday that he believes homosexuality is not a choice, but the result of people being born with "a certain make-up."

His comment came during a town hall-style event - hosted by Viacom's BET, CMT and MTV networks - in which students asked him questions.

A student asked Obama if he believed homosexuality is a choice. Obama responded he was no expert, then added: "I don't think it's a choice. I think people are born with a certain make-up."

"We're all children of God," Obama said. "We don't make determinations about who we love. That's why I think discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is wrong."

Those who think it's a choice certainly haven't been there. Why would someone chose to be hated by religious bigots? They wouldn't.

Truth? What scientific evidence? none. nil. Obama is skirting the line between imagination and lies.

Do 5 minutes of research and you will find numerous studies that show it is not a choice but rather a genetic or hormonal influence during pregnancy phenomenon. NOT a choice.

Laziness is not a good excuse for ignorance. 5 minutes of your time to see just how much evidence there is.

Sean has it right. There is no scientific evidence to support the theory that gays are born that way. If you have it, please direct me to the source. I'm certainly open to being enlightened on this subject. I

Imagination and Lies is what the old Holy Book is full of. What scientific proof do you have that attraction to same gender is a choice? Scientist have found that gay men have the same brain as women, that is, they have the same area near the hippo-campus that we straight men don't have. However, the story doesn't end there as there are other genetic combinations, gay men with straight brains, that still produces gayness to the extreme cases of hermo phrodites. However, as long as you continue to read dumb as s ancient books written by numb nuts 3000 years ago you will only come up with dumb as s comments sounding like those ignoramus from 3000 years ago.

When he meets his maker the Lord Jesus Christ, the will get the Judgment. Leaders have more responsibility than the public due to his office. He is the first President to say this and God has an account of what he says and does! He will be judged more severely. It is all in the Scriptures!!

Prove there is a God. I believe there is a God. In fact, I worship Him. I can't prove He is there. However, MY God loves every one without condition and frowns upon those who speak unkindly of others. Maybe you are the one who should ask forgiveness and learn to love others over your self-righteousness. Think about the hypocrisy of your statement.

Richard, come down. Who cares what is written in the scriptures. So what? That is only what people 3000 years ago thought. That's all. Of course it is NOT the word of G o d. How can it be? Don't you think the creator of the entire universe would have come out with a Video by now, and not needing men to put it together? I mean, think man, did he asked men to create a couple of planets for him? Why would he risk His word being tainted in so many reproductions and translations and so many versions etc? He doesn't need men to write a book for him? If he wanted to write a book he would have done it himself. So, don't worry your pretty little head. Obama is doing the right thing by using his head and Reason. You should do the same.

Honestly let follow the bible word for word. First fathers start selling your daughters into slavery. Ok now all you shrimp and seafood lover, some seafood (shrimp, catfish, etc) is an abomination, like gay love so repent now. Moms and Dads we need to start stoning unruly children to death as the bible says to do; oh and those that wear silk and cotton together (death sentence by stone). By the way make sure your wife stay at a hotel tell during that time of the month, because by biblical law she can't be in the same house as you. We need to act now to stop all the SINNERS not following these laws, to many Christian have not read their bible and for some reason this is not cover in church. Act now and get closer to God.

carlos said "Scientist have found that gay men have the same brain as women,"

men should have brain for men and women should have brain for women, otherwise it's ABNORMAL.

None would chose to be ABNORMAL, thus, being gay is NOT a choice.

The fact that we have to discuss if it’s a choice or not fascinates me. Who cares, let gay be gay and straight be straight. We have so many other issues to address, someone’s preference or happiness should not be one of them.

You are slightly silly. Were in the bible does it specifically state whether or not it is choice or not? No where. So that kind of makes your entire comment stupid. and secondly, learn the history of the bible. some of the parts of it are alot older than 2000 years. Silly goose. (:

Reaper, obviously the good old book is wrong, as so many parts of its contents are. Just because those that wrote it said it was the word of God, doesn't make it so, man. J e s u s! That is the belief of fools. And just because a lot of people believe it doesn't make it true either. There were more people who thought the world was flat before 1492, but that still didn't make it any flatter.

So what if only a man and a woman can reproduce? S e x does not exist just to procreate. We don't use our arms just to punch other people, but to work, create, pick your child up, communicate with, etc, and so forth with the rest of other body parts. We don't eat just to put calories in our body, we eat for pleasure, to socialize, to harmonize, etc, and so on with other functions and senses we posses. What the heck does reproduction has to do with our right to have s e x with whoever we want as long as it is done with a consenting adult?

There is a whole range between Gay and Straight, the pillars if you will, the strong centers of h etero s e x uality and H omo s e x uality where no amount of Environment will affect their natural attraction to opposite and same s e x respectively. However, those born around the center of the range, with both strong male/female tendencies are very possibly affected by environmental forces that can affect their behavior to one side or the other or making them try both or live comfortably in both teams, sort of speak, that is B i s e x uality.

When Obama claims to be a "Christian" and then says a statement like that, it makes me question his integrity and honesty. It would be as if to say I was "made up" with this desire to kill or steal. Being "made up" with this doesn't mean it's ok. I'm finding it more difficult to trust our President everyday and it saddens me to see people not realizing the big picture of what he is doing, but instead, only viewing this as a victorious statement for their side.

I think the only reason Obama said he is a Christian is because it would be virtually impossible for someone with any other religious beliefs to be elected in this country. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama is, deep down, actually an agnostic or even an atheist.

Christianity is about loving people no matter what. It's about living in humility, pacifism, charity and love; a very difficult and challenging way to live, so it is diluted and filtered and has been warped into what we see from Tea Baggers and the ignorant Bible thumpers who insult the intelligence and reasoning God gave them. People that nit pick quotes of scriptures, warp things out of context and just flap their gums to justify their hatred or political agendas are not Christian. Obama seems to portray closer to what Christianity is about than most self righteous false Christians, like Palin and Beck.

what does that have to do with humans?? Some species of female spiders bit off the head of their male mates. Does that mean women should bite off men's heads?

    • Carlos

the point is h omo s e x uality exist beyond human beings, it points to the genetic composition of all animals, making the argument of no-choice stronger. It just happens in nature. And bitting off some one's head is a bad, negative action of choice regardless of natural impulse. On the other hand, the gay natural impulse (because of natural attraction) to have s e x with other men is not negative as it does not affect you whatsoever, assuming it is being done with consenting adults, then it is all good, no different than a straight man having s e x with a consenting adult straight woman.

working to bring justice, respect, and equality to all human beings is more important than any other issue we have at hand, unless you happen to be a white Christian male, then I understand your disregard for the rest of the world because you are fine, so who cares about everyone else, right? White Christian males don't have a clue what discrimination is all about. Their credo is "I am fine, why can't everyone just get along?"
