Controversial pastor gets free car for not burning Quran

The Rev. Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who caused a firestorm last month when he came close to staging a public Quran burning, is getting a new car courtesy of a New Jersey dealership.

In the run-up to the planned book-burning, Brad Benson Hyundai in New Brunswick offered Jones a vehicle if the pastor backed down on his threat.

“We heard on the news that he was going to burn the Quran," Benson Hyundai general manager David Canton told CNN on Saturday.

After condemnations from around the world, Jones called off the burning.

A representative from Jones' church, Dove World Outreach Center, called Benson Hyundai recently to see whether the offer was still good, Canton said.

It was. Jones is getting a 2011 Hyundai Accent, valued at around $13,600.

"He stood up to his end of the bargain and we’re standing up to ours,” Canton said.

A woman who answered the phone Saturday at Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, said Jones would donate the car to a Muslim charity.

You might have the "freedom" to do it, but sense enough not to is another thing. BTW, would love to bring a few hundred thousand friends along if you don't mind. Just some old Army buddies and their ancestors who have died for your "freedom" just to watch you disgrace their honor.

MJD: Let me know when you assemble your fellow Soldiers and let me know what I can burn that would disgrace their honor. Soldiers have died to protect our freedom to burn whatever we want you idiot. You may not like it or agree with it, but we should be able to burn whatever we want to without be threatened to be killed. By the way did it ever occur to you that I might be a Soldier?

Am I missing something??? While I think that this man is a zealot and doing a diservice to the body of Christ, please explain how this man gets a free car for doing something that misrepresents Christianity? Maybe I'm missing something. This is a problem that people masks their misguided intentions for the name of Christ and then they'll say it's free speech. Read your Bibles, spend your time in prayer with the Lord and be guided by the Holy Spirit and remember that you represent Christ at all times in speech, actions and motives.

The dealership in question is owned by former New York Giants football player Brad Benson, who runs these awful commercials non stop up here on WFAN 660AM.
Many of the commercials are totally tasteless, and I'm pretty bad myself when it comes to dark/obscene humor.

It's not necessarily a reward, as it was meant like a ransom. Don't incite more violence and potential deaths, and I'll give you a car.

This "pastor" is going to have some serious explaining to do to work his way out of Hell, since he can't threaten to burn that neighborhood.
