The Rev. Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who caused a firestorm last month when he came close to staging a public Quran burning, is getting a new car courtesy of a New Jersey dealership.
In the run-up to the planned book-burning, Brad Benson Hyundai in New Brunswick offered Jones a vehicle if the pastor backed down on his threat.
“We heard on the news that he was going to burn the Quran," Benson Hyundai general manager David Canton told CNN on Saturday.
After condemnations from around the world, Jones called off the burning.
A representative from Jones' church, Dove World Outreach Center, called Benson Hyundai recently to see whether the offer was still good, Canton said.
It was. Jones is getting a 2011 Hyundai Accent, valued at around $13,600.
"He stood up to his end of the bargain and we’re standing up to ours,” Canton said.
A woman who answered the phone Saturday at Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, said Jones would donate the car to a Muslim charity.
next he'll get a deal selling product on QVC. "order now, and get into heaven!"
it's sad when we have to think that mooselims can burn the Christian Bible and people pray for them. You burn a koran and they want to be-head you, bomb your country, kill Americans.....WHERE IS THE LOVE MOOSLIMS /?????????
Burning holy books is provocative. I don't believe in any of them but still, afford respect to all faiths. I expect the same in return. Wait... I am agnostic. I don't have a book. Maybe science books?
Just to let you know, We Muslims fully believe in the Bible and Towrat and all the previous books and we treat them with the highest respect and reverence.
That said, you will always have a moron or two who will do stupid stuff like this pastor. They only reflect themselves and not on the overall religion.
Islam as people and as a religion have nothing to do with this band of animals that are destroying its image in the world.
I expect my fellow Americans to be above this.
What do we do with Bibles in Afghanistan here is the article read for yourself.... http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/272333 OK to burn Christian Bibles but not the Koran
To Karim. Yeah, we see how much you respect other religions by calling the Jewish holy book the Towrat. You have just thrown yourself into the league of suicide bombers and bible-burners. Good work. You have just reinforced the (apparently correct) view many Amercans have of Muslims.
ONLY IN AMERICA ......pretty sad display ....
oh ya, also seems like there almost pushing someone to burn the Koran ..... it was staged ...the whole thing....
There's always some fool who posts "ONLY IN AMERICA". They often follow this with insightful commentary such as "YA GOTTA LOVE IT", sometimes followed by "LOL"
Congratulations tommy! You are that fool!
I also hear Eli Lilly has also donated a bowl of Prozac to so he can have it next to him at all times like Chex Mix.
What a pathetic quitter. If you're going to make a worldwide stink like Jones did, don't completely cave in to peer pressure and sell yourself out. Guess he doesn't believe in much of anything let alone in himself! Loser!
I didn't know white trash cottoned to imports.
So many of the arguments we hear for why Muslim extremists hate the westernized world is because we are materialistic, and have lost track of spirituality for shallow pursuits.
A religious freak and a car dealer, the two most worthless things in society.
Hope the ol' Pastor realizes, by accepting that "gift," he has to pay tax on the $13,600 value of the car. After picking up the tab for the Police protection, I hope his congregation has a reserve to pay the tax man.
Now all he has to do is fill it up with middle east gas and go have some pita with hummus and then things are cool...right?
Proof that this idiot pastor was all about publicity. He gives Christians everywhere a bad name. Ignorance is alive and well in the US.
This makes me realize that there really isn't much hope left for how things happen in this country. He gets a car because he didn't burn a book? He should lose a car for threatening to burn it in the first place.
So if we reward someone for being a jack*ss we should punish them for having exercised their free speech rights? If anything that sets an even worse precedent than simply rewarding him for being a jack*ss.
If I don't blow up the word, can I get a house please?
Only a car dealer would think of a way to capitalize on what seemed to be the beginning of the next World War but Rev Jones is rated only second to Steve Spurrier as the most hated people to ever live Gainesville. I guess "The Swamp" is entering a Renassance Period. LOL
I'd complain about how I didn't burn a Quran and didn't get a free car, but then I saw the free car was a 2011 Hyundai Accent. No thanks!
