Controversial pastor gets free car for not burning Quran

The Rev. Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who caused a firestorm last month when he came close to staging a public Quran burning, is getting a new car courtesy of a New Jersey dealership.

In the run-up to the planned book-burning, Brad Benson Hyundai in New Brunswick offered Jones a vehicle if the pastor backed down on his threat.

“We heard on the news that he was going to burn the Quran," Benson Hyundai general manager David Canton told CNN on Saturday.

After condemnations from around the world, Jones called off the burning.

A representative from Jones' church, Dove World Outreach Center, called Benson Hyundai recently to see whether the offer was still good, Canton said.

It was. Jones is getting a 2011 Hyundai Accent, valued at around $13,600.

"He stood up to his end of the bargain and we’re standing up to ours,” Canton said.

A woman who answered the phone Saturday at Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, said Jones would donate the car to a Muslim charity.

This is great. Don't burn a book get a car.
I hope there is a Quran on the front seat.
I would be afraid to start it.

So in the end, this "Man of God" is nothing more than an extortionist. Also, he has demonstrated that material gain is the real motivation behind most of the organized religions today. That he would actually demand a free car for NOT doing something is extortion. Period. For all of the talk about how evil Islam is, christianity is not much better. At least the Muslims have true conviction in their beliefs – you don't see them selling each other out for a new car. That is the reason that Islam is so formidable – they are NOT in it for the money.

You smell of nothing but hatred of God. If you were a fair and unbiased person, you would note where it said it will be donated to a Muslim Charity. Christianity at it's finest. Thanks anyway though atheist, usually out to attack Christians at any given time.

RIGHT, in Afghanistan, Irak and Pakistan they hold out for a new "policeman's" uniform and an AK-47.....THEN they high-tail it back to their Taliban brothers!

Pastor Jones isn't any more representative of Christianity than Louis Farrakhan is of Islam. Criticizing any large and diverse group of people based on the outrageous behavior of a single member of that group is the very essence of bigotry. Whatever Jones did or did not do says nothing whatsoever about the Christian faith or the great mass of Christians in this country. As an atheist I may not agree with the Christian world view but that doesn't stop me from recognizing that there are many millions of decent, kind, compassionate and generous Christians in the world who should not be condemned and disparaged because of the actions of one man.

This is a marketing ploy that Brad Benson does all the time. It is his idiot of the week program. A few months ago he offered Roger Clemens the use of a car for a year if he told the truth. This time his idiot of the week was this moron pastor and Benson said if he didnt burn the Quran he would let him use a car. But it is for only a year. You can hear his commercials all the time on WFAN New York. This pastor just happens to be the first idiot of the week that took him up on the offer.

Nice to find someone who knows something about the subject. Anyway, what would that redneck do with a Korean car–not even an American brand built in a foreign factory. Now all he has to do is find some worthy Muslim charity willing to accept his "bloodmoney" car.

I call on all my fellow New Jersey residents to boycott Brad Benson Hyundai in New Brunswick, and its publicity-hounding general manager David Canton.

How about we boycott Hyundai entirely until that jackhole loses his franchise?

To those thinking that all terrorists are Muslims, I will give you a big counter example:

On February 18th, 2010. A man from Texas who hated government taxes flew his plane into the IRS building and take as many people down with him. Terrorist – yes, Muslim – no. Perhaps the reason why you associate terrorists with Muslims is because the media labels it that way. Any thing else will just be swept under the rug and forgotten.

Perhaps we should re-examine the definition of terrorism (according to dictionary.com): the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.

sound familiar? perhaps we should get rid of the terrorists in our own country before going into other countries.

I may be inclined to agree, but first a question. Which group of people are you wanting to go after? Anyone that's angry with the government? That's a pretty big chunk of society. How about anyone that says anything bad about the government. Of course that didn't really work out well for John Adams. Wait, how about we just go after anyone you don't agree with? Or we could be sensible and realize that there are nutjobs in any religion, on any political side, and of any race,

      Oh great example.

There's a difference between retribution/suicide and terrorism. The fact that you have to defend Muslims here should be evidence enough that there's plenty merit to the stereotypes.

So a couple of Americans as compared to possibly millions of Muslims, what's your point. If we go srtictly by your dictionary definition, that would make our governmet a terrorist organization and it seems that American terrorists only stike gov't targets. Not like the Muslim ones who kill men, women and children of their own country and religion on a daily basis. At the same time driving all other religions out of their country or kill them.

not all preachers are walking aright. i did some research on the guy and there have been issues in the past. most christian organisations are charitable like salvation army, world vision, compassion international, canadian food for the hungry, project amazon, etc they are feeding the hungry and giving medical attention to the dying and preaching Jesus. the Jesus of the Bible is not the jesus of the quran. the Jesus of the bible is God the Son, the jesus of the quaran is a prophet. like i said, these christian organisations are there to help people so not all religions are into terror. I have read the verses in the quaran and that promote terror and lets admit it..islam means submission...to allahs will. in contrast Jesus said "whoever will let him come" not by force but by choice. so blockheads that say all religions are the same are speaking without knowledge. yes i admit in the bible the old testament commanded the israelites to go to war and it seems unfair until you study what that those areas worshipped Molech- a statue with out stretch arms that the people rolled their babies on that fell into a belly of fire. yes i admit God ordered a stop to that in the old testament, under the new testament God still hates sin but ordered the church to save as many people as they can before God judges the world...man is not to take man's life only God who created life has the right to take life plus His judgement is perfect.

i cant understand the terrorist for the see ' allah' blessing americans with babies, wealth, lush vegetation, and yet they think they should destroy...why cant their god stop blessings? in reality we see God is loving and giving blessings to those who dont deserve blessings...thats the God of the Bible..He is loving yet in the end He will judge the wicked.

No, it said that someone at Jones' church SAID that Jones WOULD donate the car to Muslim charity. I would love to hear the follow up to that. Hopefully, the journalist who wrote this article will track that and report to us later whether he actually did give it to a Muslim charity and which one it was. I have my doubts.

DO us the favor and burn every Quran you have. That will save a Holy Scriptiure from being in the hands of people who are both inwardly and outwardly filthy. No Really do it.
