Controversial pastor gets free car for not burning Quran

The Rev. Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who caused a firestorm last month when he came close to staging a public Quran burning, is getting a new car courtesy of a New Jersey dealership.

In the run-up to the planned book-burning, Brad Benson Hyundai in New Brunswick offered Jones a vehicle if the pastor backed down on his threat.

ā€œWe heard on the news that he was going to burn the Quran," Benson Hyundai general manager David Canton told CNN on Saturday.

After condemnations from around the world, Jones called off the burning.

A representative from Jones' church, Dove World Outreach Center, called Benson Hyundai recently to see whether the offer was still good, Canton said.

It was. Jones is getting a 2011 Hyundai Accent, valued at around $13,600.

"He stood up to his end of the bargain and we’re standing up to ours,ā€ Canton said.

A woman who answered the phone Saturday at Dove World Outreach CenterĀ in Gainesville, Florida, said Jones would donate the car to a Muslim charity.

"A representative from Jones' church, Dove World Outreach Center, called Benson Hyundai recently to see whether the offer was still good." - What a greedy SOB. He should be ashamed of himself, he should be repentant, not looking to cash in on a 'prize'.
I hope the IRS will take a serious look into the 'Dove World Outreach Center's' finances. The best way to take down these kinds of ministries is to hit them where they live– in their accounts.

As a Christian this was embarassing from the start because this guy was claiming to be under God's calling. So Mr. Jones, did God tell you what color Hyundai he wanted to bless you with too?

Another christian backing down... another weak lamb for the BBQ. Christanity thrives on these weak minded people with low self esteem and dreams of grandeur. They honestly think they will sit at the side of God in the heaven. Jesus told John the Baptist they even he ( John) would never sit beside him in the kingdom of Heaven. Read your bibles sheep! The human race has been removed from the "divine" plan by the one you so love. We know sit outside eden, never to re enter and for the only reason of now being able to have free will. God wants followers not leaders. That is why he condemned Lucifer and that is why he condemned us. Lucifer gave us all the knowledge that he had by giving us that apple to see through the smokesceen and actually look at this God with open eyes. God is a murderer, a theif and a liar. Deal with it and you will be much happier

You high and mighty Christians have some nerve. The largest religion on the planet, thanks mostly in part to the Crusades, the Inquisition, and the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Yet you bible thumpers sit here and have the AUDACITY to ostracize Islam?? It would take TWO lifetimes for them to kill as many that have been MURDERED IN THE NAME OF JESUS. You all had a 1,000 year head start.

This guy is an idiot. All we need is some prejudice holy roller like this to burn books and start an even bigger religious war. Burning books... really? ... sounds like Hitler all over again. He should have his pastorship removed.... but looking at how old he looks.. he probably won't live much longer anyways.

It was a peace offering. And he probably got good advertising out of it.

What incentive can YOU give for the company to give you a car? You're not in CNN headlines, so they get no publicity out of giving one to you.

That is pathetic, him getting a car.
I will take and set up a burn barrel. Have 100 copies of the Koran on a table 15 feet away and proceed to do Kareem Abdul Jabar hookshots with them into the burning barrel from that distance. Have two hot jihadist dressed big breasted blond babes bring me Chicago style hotdogs during a break. All filmed and then put on Youtube.
Burning the Koran is the least I can do to the Muslim/Islam religious fanatics who believe Muhammed was telling the truth. He was a liar who took advantage of a bunch of dumb people. Now these morons are going around murdering innocent people.
The lessons being taught are going to reach the level of biblical because that is what it's going to take to end all religions and have everyone be on the same religious page.

Mohammed didn't write the Qur'an. It was written by his followers. Just another example of man controlling man and man letting it happen. I think this happened in Christianity, also.

Well said. I find it hilarious how christians think they are so righteous, and innocent, when in reality, Christianity has been, by far, the most violent religion to date. You may point out that the Koran calls for "killing the infidels", but let us remember how many times the bible also suggests that we kill the non-beleivers. If the Koran is a book of violence and hatred, the Bible must be it's brutal sequel.

Well said Karim, there are zealots in all religions, ethnicities and peoples of the world. You can't lable or blame one person or religious sect for all the person's of that faith, ethnicity or country. Regardless of the silliness of theis story, or whether we agree to it or not, there should be tolerance all around.

Tolerance is not for other people. You tolerate a dripping faucet. You don't tolerate people, you accept them for what they are.
That being said, I accept that Muslims as terrorists and must be dealt with.
