Controversial pastor gets free car for not burning Quran

The Rev. Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who caused a firestorm last month when he came close to staging a public Quran burning, is getting a new car courtesy of a New Jersey dealership.

In the run-up to the planned book-burning, Brad Benson Hyundai in New Brunswick offered Jones a vehicle if the pastor backed down on his threat.

“We heard on the news that he was going to burn the Quran," Benson Hyundai general manager David Canton told CNN on Saturday.

After condemnations from around the world, Jones called off the burning.

A representative from Jones' church, Dove World Outreach Center, called Benson Hyundai recently to see whether the offer was still good, Canton said.

It was. Jones is getting a 2011 Hyundai Accent, valued at around $13,600.

"He stood up to his end of the bargain and we’re standing up to ours,” Canton said.

A woman who answered the phone Saturday at Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, said Jones would donate the car to a Muslim charity.

I'm gonna hurl. This is the same thinking that rewards kids for just showing up to school. Epic Fcuking Failure. I don't care that the @$$hat is donating the car, it's the entire premise to begin with.

Hey, really, it was one car dealership doing what it could to prevent a possible catastrophe. The guy totally doesn't deserve a car, but major kudos to the dealership for taking a stand and trying to prevent further harm to our troops. I am sure 99% of us (myself included) did nothing to try to stop this maniac but post anger on the Internet.

It was basically our gov'y, FBI that talked this guy out of it, not an offer by a publicity seeking car dealer. Read a newspaper once in awhile.

NO!!! Wrong, wrong, wrong. There are plenty of Christian terrorists, too – think KKK, the pro-lifers who harass women going into abortion clinics, shoot the doctors and bomb the clinics; the IRA and their Protestant counterparts in Northern Ireland – and there's the Basque group ETA (not religious, just political). Do a little research and get your facts straight before you make irresponsible and uninformed comments like that.

As people have pointed out, you are so wrong, it's pathetic. There are countless Christian militia groups in the U.S. that are on the terrorist watch list. The Ku Klux Klan and Neo Nazi groups are terrorist groups. Timothy McVeigh was Christian and a terrorist. There are Irish Catholic terrorist groups in Northern Ireland. There have been Jewish terrorist groups in Israel for years, although they have lessened over the last decade or two. Throughout the 70s and 80s, there were Jewish terrorist groups that were as bad, if not worse, as Hamas. We only hear about the Islamic terrorist groups more because they come in direct conflict with the U.S. and U.S. interests.

What do you call the people killing scores of people in Mexico clown? What do you call the pilots dropping bombs on civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan clown? What do you call the American government responsible for the unexplained infant deaths at the Fort Bragg Army base, which are more than likely from the army's illegal use of chemical weapons or the use of depleted uranium in Iraq and Afghanistan? The next time you hear of a navy airshow in your area go. Especially if it features any of the F series of jets. The sound breaking sound of the jets is terrorism in itself. Imagine that sound flying over your own neighborhood hour after hour. You are a clown John and remember you reap what you sow and be careful what you wish on someone else because it'll come back on you 10 fold.

Frankly, Rev. Terry Jones (a so-called "Christian"?) is, himself, a terrorist. He purposely decided to do something that incited violence here and around the world. Whether the violence was religiously-based or not is irrelevent. According to the Patriot Act definition of a terrorist, Terry Jones fits it perfectly!
