An 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) southwest of Christchurch, New Zealand, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, part of the continuing aftershocks from a bigger earthquake that hit the area in September.
The shocks registered 5.0 on the Richter Scale used in New Zealand, which is different from the one used by the USGS.
Phones appear to be down in the area and there are reports of power outages and building evacuations in Christchurch, the New Zealand Herald said.
It wasnt as bad as it sounds, we have been having them for 6 weeks now and are getting use to them. We had another 5.0 a few days ago aswell. The earth is almost constantly moving here.
We have had 2,027 after shocks so far since September 4th. You get quite blase about them. I was standing at the foot of the Port Hills when the latest one struck, and the whole hill roared. You could hear the internal rumbles within the hill.
The local website http://quake.crowe.co.nz/ details the address of the epi centre of each quake which is really interesting
Hey guys, will you visit SaveStan.ORG a friend of mine with 4 babies is fighting for his life...... Thanks
New Zealand, if I'm remembering right, is a product of tectonic collision. It is surely a beautiful land, but not a steadfast one. May all you Kiwis have the benefit of its good behavior as well as its magnificent landscape, and may you be free of the ragging of the endtimers, as well.
I was at school in town when the 5.0 aftershock happened yesterday and it was so scary. power went out and the phone network was done. felt bigger then a 5.0
