Two fatally shot at Tennessee post office, police say

[Updated at 12:02 p.m.] A Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office dispatcher tells CNN that two women, both postal workers, were killed in the Henning shooting.

[Updated at 11:30 a.m.] Two people were killed Monday at the post office in Henning, Tennessee, the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office said.

Local and state police are on the scene with the FBI.

I'm a postal worker. We get paid well, the work is easy, we get lots of vacation and better benefits than most. But imagine coming to a workplace where most of the harassment and bullying is done by management, where complaints aren't taken seriously, safety hazards surround you, and, if you attempt to do anything about this, you find yourself the target of every supervisor. Middle management runs unchecked and overpaid in the USPS. They have to pay us what they do – otherwise, no one would put up with it.

I understand what you are saying, although think of people in 3rd world countries and china etc. We purchase goods from these places, when they are being abused daily. I think we got it to good.

This is so sad. There are more restrictions to getting a license to drive than to be in possession of a gun.

      My condolences to the families.
Muffet, more people are killed by vehicles than by guns. Your point is?
It's actually way too easy to get a driver's license in this country. Half the population are self centered idiots; they shouldn't drive or own guns. But, they keep breeding.
That's why I'll keep my guns.
The number of guns in this country is the only thing that will keep China from ever invading, and collecting on the trillions of $ worth of IOU's, our government has so carelessly passed out.

Muffet's point is . Guns are made to kill. Cars are made to drive. Why is it easier to get a license to kill than one to drive?

Supreme Court can decide whether citizens can own guns or not. I'll tell you right now, these justices carry guns themselves. They will never decide anything not in their favor. This is a complicated issue. For those who break into someone else house, you will get shot eventually. Have a nice death.

IDIOTS! Guns don't kill people, lack of oxygen caused by blood loss due to bullet induced trauma kills people!
Working in an inhumane environment causes going postal, and the post office is just as inhumane as many other jobs; it our culture of worker abuse, both public and private jobs, coupled with a hefty dose of psychosis, anger, and easy access to deadly weapons.
The real solution is less workplace abuse, less working overall, and enjoying your life- not just money. And wearing bullet proof underwear.

There is a need for additional security in post offices. In this situation, what I would do is have homeland security or an armed guard standing right next to the clerk desk at every post office in the U.S. If a customer gets irate, then there is legal protection standing right there. Xray machines and metal detectors aren't the answer, the control of human behavior is.

    Dear Sandy,

What does god have to do with me having a gun to protect my faimily?

Condolences to the families. Check statistics, how many senseless murders have been committed by someone licensed to carry a gun. I say law abiding citizens should all get their concealed handgun license. If there's a chance their target is armed, maybe criminals would think twice.

These are the answers that most Americans will give in a shooting incident:

    1. Guns don't kill people
    2. People kill people
    3. If all Americans are armed, then a potential killer/shooter will think twice before shooting somebody
    4. Second amendment must be protected so that the "FEDS" don't come after the regular people
    5. Americans forgot that GOD is their protector (dollar: In God We Trust)

After this discussion is finished, this is what will happen:

    1. People will still own Guns
    2. People will continue to kill each other with Guns
    3. People will always say: Why GOD did this happen
    4. People will always go to work to earn a "dollar"

    May GOD help us all!

Let's take a poll. All those in favor of armed security at U.S. post office clerk desks say "Aye". 1 here, "Aye".
