Prosecutors close Fort Hood case, defense to begin Nov. 15

Maj. Nidal Hasan is charged with killing 13 people in a rampage last year.

[Updated at 11:18 a.m.] The prosecution has completed presenting its case against alleged Fort Hood shooter and Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Hasan.

The investigating officer has recessed the proceedings until November 15th, at which time the defense will have an opportunity to present its case.

[Updated at 10:18 a.m.] The prosecution said it plans to wrap up its case against alleged Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan on Thursday, and Hasan's legal team will present its defense in more than two weeks.

The prosecution has called more than 50 witnesses who have delivered chilling testimony about the shooting rampage that left 13 dead at a Texas military base. Hasan is the subject of an Article 32 hearing, which will determine if there is ample evidence to proceed with a court martial.

The former Army psychiatrist is charged with killing 13 people and wounding dozens more in a November rampage.

Witnesses have described floors covered in blood and the "clack, clack" of Hasan's boots as he walked with spent shell casings trapped in their treads. Army Criminal Investigation Division Special Agent Kelly Jameson said 146 shell casings had been collected, and other sources said 68 were collected outside, for a total of 214.

Army investigators said Wednesday that Hasan had 177 rounds left when he was finally shot down by police.

Nine people died after being shot in the Army medical processing center, and four more died after they were rushed to the base hospital.

The defense has been told it can begin presenting its case November 8.

A pause in the proceedings had been planned to allow Fort Hood to mark one year since the shooting and to honor the victims as well as soldiers and civilians who exhibited special heroism.

Ah yes. Yet another fool (Mehdi) who thinks his cause is more just than any other on the planet. I'm Native American, do I still around and complain about the injustices committed against my people? Not at all, and trust me I'd have quite a bit to complain about. My point is, you can have your causes, your convictions, but they don't mean a thing if you are as ratty and childish as those you fight against. Buy a dictionary and grow up.

Correction, injustices committed against your ancestors. I'm German. The Romans oppressed my ancestors. I don't whine about it to Italians.

If Muslims/Islamist claim that everything they do is the will of Allah, then it was Allah who paralyzed Maj. Nidal Hasan from the chest down for his murderous rampage; now the nurses have to wipe his behind and change his soiled diapers at least three times a day as if he were a baby. YIKES!

Islam is not a peaceful religion but a murderous ideology; it should be outlawed in the U.S.A. ASAP!

Why are some mentally challanged bloggers here writing in incomplete sentences? Are they so eager to show their high level of mental retardation? If that is their purpose, they are doing a good job at it.

Wow... Dr Bad, u need help. Just like all your muslim friends. They want to say being muslim is non violent, then how come we see so much violence? They say "Oh, those are the extremists, and not normal muslims." well then all muslims are extremists, b/c most all of 'em want americans dead.... And as for this Ft. Hood guy- kill 'im. he killed, he should be killed. Why do we have to evven waste money on a stupid trial????

A murderous ideology? ...seriously? What do you actually know about the Muslim faith? For that matter, what do you really know about your own? It's amazing how most of the population claims to believe in God, and yet so few–less than a quarter of the population–can actually discuss the tenets of their faith with any exacting detail. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones; research just how many people were killed for the proliferation of YOUR faith. No one is blameless in that respect.

Faith or no faith, to say what Hasan did was wrong is a gross understatement. However, don't sit there and say 'there shouldn't be a trial'; there are principles this country was founded on, and the right to a fair and just trial is one of them. The guy's guilty as sin, but we are a nation of laws, not a nation of knee-jerk reactions.

I agree. Go through the due process of the law either Civilian or Miltary. Just don't kill him. Make him squeal like a the pig he is for the rest of his life in Leavenworth Prison.
