Replica weapon behind Texas A&M scare

[Updated at 7:43 p.m. ET] Authorities said there was no danger at Texas A&M University
after a report of a gunman on campus Thursday turned out to be a person with a replica weapon.
A partial lockdown and campus-wide alert system went into effect after a bus driver spotted what he described as a man carrying what looked like an AK-47, officials said.
The alert was issued at 4 p.m. CT. It asked those on campus to "seek safe shelter until further notice."
[Earlier post] Texas A&M University police were searching for a possible gunman on campus Thursday after a bus driver spotted what he described as a man carrying what looked like an AK-47, officials said.
The heart of the university, Rudder Complex, was on lockdown and officials sent out a campus-wide alert urging people to seek shelter.
No gunman was immediately found, the university said, yet officials asked those on campus to remain under shelter.

Corp of Cadets member, I'll bet. They walk around campus with guns all the time. Faux-military.
I'm a student at Texas A&M. We are currently under lockdown. I personally hope that it's a corps of cadets member with a dummy rifle...but then again there was another call in from West Campus of a spotting.
I'm so thankful for Texas A&M's emergency alert system "Code Maroon." It effectively notified students of the possible threat at 4pm.
If you are thinking of including a "toy" gun as part of your halloween costume – you might want to reconsider :-O
according to the Huffington Post, Laura Bush is also on campus.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone.
Why not carry something less recognizable – like an Uzi or Tomahawk missile?
At least they are trying to make sure the students know and that they are to be on alert incase he does go onto a shooting spree, lets hope they find him, before anything bad
I'm on A&M campus. Everyone is in their office at the moment. It may be a Corp member with his rifle but we're not sure. A&M has an emergency notification system so we've known since 4pm
PLease pray for those involved. Someone said there is also a gunman on the other side of the College Station campus. Local sources of news include KBTX.com and theeagle.com

Laura Bush is at the Bush Library which is several miles away from the location of the siting, so she should be ok.

Nick, that is completely wrong. I go to school at the Bush School, right next to the library, and it is at least 2-3 miles away from Rudder Complex, and separated by railroad tracks.

Students are locked down. Police just said they are still searching for shooter.
Students said they saw a gun that resembled an AK-47. Stay safe Aggs, and all you dumb people that are still walking around campus, take shelter!

I'm on campus now. They're pulling people walking by into the buildings. I'm right next to the building where the gunman supposedly is and everything seems pretty quiet.
The campus is not officially on lockdown, but students and all are requested to stay in shelter. A bus has been set up to take students off-campus. Several buses will be running from the location.
Well if Laura Bush is there then the secret service is there too. Armed man doesn't have much of a chance.
