Replica weapon behind Texas A&M scare

[Updated at 7:43 p.m. ET] Authorities said there was no danger at Texas A&M University
after a report of a gunman on campus Thursday turned out to be a person with a replica weapon.

A partial lockdown and campus-wide alert system went into effect after a bus driver spotted what he described as a man carrying what looked like an AK-47, officials said.

The alert was issued at 4 p.m. CT. It asked those on campus to "seek safe shelter until further notice."

FULL STORY

[Earlier post] Texas A&M University police were searching for a possible gunman on campus Thursday after a bus driver spotted what he described as a man carrying what looked like an AK-47, officials said.

The heart of the university, Rudder Complex, was on lockdown and officials sent out a campus-wide alert urging people to seek shelter.

No gunman was immediately found, the university said, yet officials asked those on campus to remain under shelter.

Since it's illigal for Conceal to Carry permit holders to carry their gun into TAMU buildings, 99.99 percent of the students, faculity and staff on campus are vulnerable... but don't worry, Reville will save the day !

I'd bet that there are a number of students and faculty members who ignore those laws. If he is a shooter, he picked the wrong campus to shoot up.

Yeah, the answer to the gun problem – more guns.

...and you would... what? rely on the police to save you? on laws? 'cuz cops are always right there when you need 'em and criminals never break laws... so yes, the answer is to arm yourself and take some freakin' responsibility for your own safety. like it or not, that's they way it is.

Corps turds are out running PT with dummy rifles every afternoon. I guarantee that's all that this was.

The corps does not run around with AK 47's. And remember those "turds" leave this campus and defend YOUR safety and freedom to call them "turds" every day.

Calm down, no Old Army showed no disrespect for the Corps. In fact, hiis/her name is a giveaway that s/he was in the Corps. At A&M, members of the Corps are called universally called Corps Turds, or CT for short. And yes, Corps members themselves use the term. It's an in-joke, not an insult. BTW, "Old Army" is a similar in-term.

funny how the bus driver is the ONLY person that saw this guy....unless a cop sees this supposed gunman, how can anyone know its true. How much of what is being said is blown out of proportion....yeah you people will chastise me, but NONE of you were there and none of you saw anything. You're going off what others have told you, and we all know that one person says something and by the time the 10th person has heard it, it has been embelished

So a police officer seeing the suspect makes it more credible? Why? Do cops have better eyesight or something? If it is an AK-47, most people here could easily identify the gun.

Thank you, AggieSenior. Yes, JGN, that is the info I have. My husband is on campus but not at the locations involved, either Rudder or West Campus, and not even the Bush Library, so I'm not getting on site info from him, just from Code Maroon. Along with KBTX.com, you can check theeagle.com for info, although KBTX at the moment has much more.
