Replica weapon behind Texas A&M scare

[Updated at 7:43 p.m. ET] Authorities said there was no danger at Texas A&M University
after a report of a gunman on campus Thursday turned out to be a person with a replica weapon.

A partial lockdown and campus-wide alert system went into effect after a bus driver spotted what he described as a man carrying what looked like an AK-47, officials said.

The alert was issued at 4 p.m. CT. It asked those on campus to "seek safe shelter until further notice."

FULL STORY

[Earlier post] Texas A&M University police were searching for a possible gunman on campus Thursday after a bus driver spotted what he described as a man carrying what looked like an AK-47, officials said.

The heart of the university, Rudder Complex, was on lockdown and officials sent out a campus-wide alert urging people to seek shelter.

No gunman was immediately found, the university said, yet officials asked those on campus to remain under shelter.

no, they are still there, and no suspect has been found. There are no reports in college station that it was a false alarm

Maybe he'll shoot the football coach and y'all won't have to worry about firing him.

      Mr. Seagal,
Comments like that are absolutely out of line. No one needs to be shot in this ordeal. Aggies are a family and we certainly do not talk like that about each other (even if Sherman is slacking a little bit). Bite your tongue

Even though I'm a die hard a fan of the Aggies' lifelong football rivals, I find that comment distasteful. This is not the place for BS like that. Imagine if someone you cared about was on that campus, afraid to go outside right now, for fear some psycho might take aim? Of course, it's more likely that losers like you don't have meaningful relationships with real people, so I'm sure you wouldn't understand.

Not to make light of the situation or anything, but it *is* A&M... I can't begin to count the number of times over the past few years I've seen some hick redneck showing off a new gun or rifle to his buddies here... rules or no rules.

Mind you, I hunt and am a NRA member, but even I think that some of these boys have a "little" problem that they are trying to "compensate" for...

You're right, every time I see someone with a big gun, I automatically assume they have a small dong.

That is a picture of the AK-47 Soviet Assault Rifle that was spotted, probably the only machine gun still in use that has a wooden stock. xtremely hard to confuse with an M-16 considering an M-16 is not made of wood.

Take some time to get real familiar with that picture, That is the same gun the man responsible for September 11th holds in Videos to brag about killing thousands of Americans. If you ever see anyone walking around with an AK-47 in a public place immediatly consider them dangerous & call the police.
