NORAD escorts aircraft to New York's JFK airport

Fighter jets escorted Emirates flight 201 to New York's JFK airport.

[Update 4:00 p.m.] Emirates Airline has issued a statement regarding the origin of the flight:

"Emirates Flight EK201, which has just landed at JFK, originated in Dubai not in Yemen, as reported in the US media. More information will follow as soon as we have it. Emirates is co-operating fully with the US authorities."

[Update 3:36 p.m.] Emirates flight 201 lands at New York's JFK airport escorted by fighter jets.

[Update 3:11 p.m.] NORAD is escorting a passenger flight from the United Arab Emirates to New York's JFK airport “out of an abundance of caution,” a NORAD spokesman said.

Two Canadian CF-18s began to track a civilian aircraft that was “determined to be an aircraft of interest” as it flew over Canadian airspace, spokesman John Cornelio said.

Two US F-15s then picked up the escort to JFK, which is ongoing.

A law enforcement source says that the flight being escorted is Emirates 201.  The flight originated in Sanaa, Yemen, yesterday and is en route from Dubai to JFK, according to Emirates Airline.

The FBI and Port Authority Police are scheduled to meet the fight, FBI Special Agent Richard Kolko said.

"This is only because there is cargo from Yemen on the flight.  There is no known threat associated with this cargo or this flight,” he said.

From a British lame guy.. reading all your comments.. i can say 100% , i am glad we let you have the USA back 🙂
the majority of you have a massive 'ego problem' and 99% of you do not even know whats really happening outside your country either 😛 , you call Canada, thats understandable in a sense... but do you realise that you might actually 'need' help from that country one day? 😛 .
the only comment i saw posted that seemed decent was ' its better to be safe than sorry '
other than that.. all the rest of you are just bored and wasting your time and trying to look cool hiding behind a computer keyboard and waiting for the responses to your lame replies in excitement 😛
and as for you being the Greatest Country in the world.. yup.. you are.. and also help other countries when no one else seems to care 😛 .. but drop the ego rubbish please.. before it backfires 'massivelly' 🙁
and CNN .. checkout how BBC reports news before actually reporting stuff yourself.. i sure your users know what you are doing anyways and will also backfire on yourselfs one day.. not nice 😛
    all take care anyways
    regards from

The picture of the toner got me thinking:

1.) Has anyone investigated "when" these packages were to be delivered? (i.e. before or during elections) If there are trends/similarities it could help us run these things down. Will these locations be used for voting??

2.) Is anyone checking into the possibility that these type of devices could be put into next Tuesday's voting machines or boxes of supplies ? If I were a terrorist, I would at least consider such an approach, because:
    – It would definately rival the carnage of 911 (think of hundreds of these bombs going off with voters concentrtaed in one area.)
    – it is something which you could do ahead of time. (put into the boses of supplies or actual machines)
    – it's something which could be coordinated across the country by numerous cell phone calls.
    – it's also something which could be done at the last moment if they wanted to prevent it from being detected (i.e. Someone has to bring the voting machines and supplies to the various locations via truck, etc..) Why not add them in-transit. It sure would be extremely difficult to uncover until it was too late

    What do our experts think?

Mr Obama said he was first informed about the packages late on Thursday and that President Ali Abdallah Saleh of Yemen had pledged his country's full support in investigating the threat.

However, the Yemeni government later expressed astonishment at reports linking the country to the two packages, according to the Associated Press news agency.

It quoted a Yemeni statement as saying that no UPS cargo planes had taken off from Yemen and there had been no direct or indirect flights to British or US airports.

Mr Obama said the US would continue to work to destroy al-Qaeda and its affiliates, and to root out violent extremism in all its forms...
    /me sighs..

Wow! NORAD was on top of this one. Too bad NORAD was ordered to "stand down" on 9/11.

Hey all of U bloggers why don'U spend some quality time reading on the Bush and Reagan years and stop blaming The President for everything. The party of NO has been in place for many years. Be smart and start reading. The media only gives U second hand news. When U hear come out of the horses mouth then U can believe. CNN has a great reported named Andersan Cooper and he tries to keep the politicians honest. Try watching his show U might learn what the word civil means.

    Thank U and goodnight.
